BTW, my P20 just showed up today. It was quite an ordeal getting it. The 1st one they shipped got lost in transit, so they shipped the 2nd one ASAP. Only problem: I ordered a black one & got a red one. For about 10 seconds I thought about sending it back, another month or two of adgita...then said "f**k it" and plugged it in along w/my NOS tubes instead of stock. Will burn in ~100 hrs then try to figure out how good it is. Must say it's a cute little thing. If it actually sounded good that would be quite a bonus!

I also ordered another one. First one sounded so much worse compared to any modern phone/laptop output that I'm sure it must have been broken. Ordered a black one straight from vendor now. Hope I get black, red is too flashy for my tastes : )

Good luck with getting a black P20. I ordered directly from the vendor and was sent a box marked Black but contents were Red. Already have a red one and don't need two reds. Contacted the vendor but they have yet to respond.

@Baten - keep in mind the 47R output impedance. Low impedance headphones won't be served well by this amp. HD6xx and HD800 with mods work much better.

My wife just walked in my home office and caught sight of this red P20 & the (coindentally) also red Pariapt balanced cable connecting it to my Jupiter Audio Research "J-Mod" HD650. She said, "it looks like a bunch of twizzlers."

    (why, yes--it kinda does)

OK well got this little unit in and decided to feed it directly from my Oppo, no external DAC. The tubes were already installed from the factory but I did push them in a bit to verify they were seated. I was a little paranoid to plug my Beyers in so went with the Superlux 668. Sounds good, bass was a bit pronounced but nothing too overwhelming. I'm going to let it play for a bit and take another listen but for 95 bucks it sounds acceptable to me. Hopefully, if I keep it, I get a balanced DAC and cable for my HiFiMan hp's and see\hear what this balanced sound is like. Anywho sounds good, looks cute.

I see your DT990s are 600 ohm; Are your DT880s also? If they're that or the 250 ohm model they'll play well with this amp. Likewise your AKGs. The HiFiMans are planars so although they have a lower impedance, from what I understand they should be ok (but I'd wait for a more informed opinion before trying to drive them loud).

BTW, could you change the colour of your equipment list in your signature? For those of us reading with the black background theme, it's almost impossible to see.

I tried my DT990's briefly and didn't like the high end, I've read quite a bit about these (DT990) being problematic in the highs but never experienced it myself. The sound out of my Keces amp & DAC is fantastic with the DT990. With the Loxjie it was harsh and nothing I wanted to listen to. Maybe if I get a balanced DAC (open to suggestion) it would sound better. Right now it's just whatever internal DAC is in the Oppo straight into the Loxjie by some Esoteric Audio RCA's.
I really hesitated buying this amp because I don't have any balanced gear and wasn't sure if I wanted to go that route it was just so cheap. 99.99 on Amazon with a 5% coupon free shipping.
I will say it sounds really good right now through my Superlux's playing some Black Light Syndrome track #3Duende! Bass is so close to being too much though...
Also any suggestion on a budget alternative tube I could pick up on ebay?

Several here & on other sites suggested a pair of GE 5670 3 mica square tubes. They run ~$20-$30. The only problem is when you swap the stock tubes for them, you'll never get them out again (they're 2/3s the length of the stock tubes. Oh, well...

Mine is still burning in, far from ready to be judged/assessed.

Has anyone tried comparing the P20 to the JDS atom or even the MCTH+LPS+6c8g tube? I find it hard to believe that a $100 would outperform the latter but I don't own a P20 and I'm curious...

Who and which forum? It's okay to say these things. We are not Head-Fi.

Thank you for understanding, even if you don't agree.

So? I don’t know who they are, how good their hearing is, how they hear things, what their tastes are, what the rest of their gear is like, etc. Can’t trust most posters’ hearing and sensibilities on the various forums anyway.

So that don’t mean shit to me and shouldn’t mean shit to you either, in and of itself.

I feel sad for those good vintage tubes.

Dammit, do we need to buy one and get it into senior members' hands?

Y'all have seen AtomicBob's tests, yes? I added a noisenuke to the mix because I could and don't hear anything new.
Besides measured cleaner power in his test, more power is available at power on. Not really an issue if you don't mind the screen flicker with just the smps.
However, I picked up a LP from here and am just not interested in much else. I added the nobsound balanced passive pre to attenuate the signal and stay in the range mentioned in the testing. My Crack has a hum and I am not real motivated to fix it. The THX789 sit's lonely and unused and my Loxjie P20 just sits, wanting me to put the WE396a's back in so I will like it more.

Maybe someday but for now, I only have ears for LP.

I have several in the lab. I'd be happy to send one out on tour.

Having several amps with different sonic signatures can be useful, especially for comparison listening. GE5670 make a positive difference in the P20 but I couldn't justify WE396a for this application.

I also liked the Reflektor 6N3P-DR better than the WE 396A and the GE5670. Both the WE and GE get pretty hot in the P20 but not the Reflektor. Also using the 6N3P-DR with adaptor in my Garage 1217 Ember and happy with it.
