I haven't used Jriver but I do use Volumio in two rooms. if your laptop is switching from wifi to ethernet its changing its IP too and that may be problematic is its already connected via the old IP.

My use case is a bit different but it may be your issue. My library is on my PC in office closet hosted by Plex server. I have one Pi running Volumio in the same room that I can stream to via any number of apps (volumio, foobar upnp, plexamp, tidal/spotify connect) and another one in the Livingroom.

Additionally I can use my Laptop/phon/tablet to do the same thing over wifi. both Pi's are connected via ethernet AND wifi and if one is disrupted it doesn't immediately switch... it has to re-handshake and it can be problematic and sometimes required a reboot to fix...

So I'm not changing my player (laptop, desktop etc.) from wifi to ethernet like you but would imagine it would do the same thing as unplugging ethernet to Pi when its on the network visible via this IP.

All this to say unless its a limitation to your router network settings (does wifi see LAN network etc) you will probably just need to keep laptop on wifi. I also found Wi-Fi to be occasionally unstable so i prefer to keep both Pi's on LAN since my server is on the same network.
have you tried rebooting anything after you dock laptop to see if it shows up again with a new IP route? can u try another app like foobar2k with UPnP plugin?

In Volumio's Network Settings under Wired Network, do you have Automatic IP switched 'On'?

Are we still talking about network streamers? I have been using Linn streamers since 2010, mostly Klimax DS. Currently daily driving Akurate DS (latest version). I probably tried a dozen DACs before I settled on Linn (pretty much all the big names). AMA
