The main way to modulate the midbass in the modded 650 is to control how much material you place over the hole in the back of the driver. After removing the spider cage and foam, I had way too much bass, so fixed some fine gauze over the top (as I didn't have the foam handy, don't ask). This dialled things back and made the sound a lot more coherent again. The KISS mod uses the foam to do this, sensibly- it's better to go and look at the pictures than have me describe it though.

@YtseJammer Do you do anything other than post whatever articles and videos you find related to the AQ headphones?

As far as I know, it's a thread to discuss and share information about the NightHawk ?

Instead of whining about my posts maybe you should tell the other persons to talk about the HD650 in the other 2 threads.

The others have earned the right to go off topic. You haven't earned the right to shitpost or talk back to @Hands. That's just the way it rolls here until you get your stripes.

We also know who Lachlan and Sklyar are and know how to do Google searches ourselves. We want people to tell us what we don't already know.

Are there any NightOwl owners out there yet? Still in the market for an office 'phone replacement from my 598cs but sound isolation is a major requirement.

I grabbed a pair of these and ended more impressed than disappointed. Most of the time I can used an open headphone but on occasion need a closed back when I don't feel like running out to the car to grab my custom iem. I burned the NO in for a good week and then did some casual and critical listening. I think that there is some real potential in the NO. To my ear, it's a better frequency response than the NH. More balanced and less of that huge mid bass hump. VERY comfortable and easy to amp.

They sound as good from my Dragonfly Red as they do from my desktop amp. In regard to isolation, it's quite good both incoming and outgoing. Not as good as the 26 db of isolation as I get from my ciem, but very good still. Overall, still an AQ type tuning but better than what I heard with NH. I need some more time with them to draw more conclusions.

Oh, let me add that the "new and improved" cable on these are one of the worst of all time. It's very heavy gauge and prone to coiling. But the real pisser is that it's only four feet! My amp is three feet giving about a foot of slack to play with it...ridiculous.

AQ is first and foremost a cable company and yet they can't make a damn headphone cable to save their ass. The cable from the original NH had a failure rate of around 50%. They should just source this out to a third part and move on.

That's good to know. Fortunately it looks like the connectors are detachable 3.5mm TRRS...

I asked a couple dealers here in Canada about the Nightowls and they don't even have them yet lol.

Just spent 2 nights with the Nighthawk Carbon.

Were they going for the ''speakers playing in another room'' sound signature? :D

I will never be able to understand the reasoning of somebody who spends £600 on these instead of £250 on the HD650.

Maybe they need they need their headphones to put them to sleep?

While it may come across as harsh to some people, I appreciate the S/N ratio. The amount of times I've had to scroll down and click on endless pages on HF to find impressions is unreal. Here I can click on the next page and find a quality impression I thank you SBAF mods for keeping this site clean and informative!

Yeah I agree about the cable, it's shocking, 4ft lol it's below the standard which I think is pegged as 6ft?

If I listen to the NH and nothing else I can get used to their recessed mids, I return to the HD650 and it's amazing how much presence I have missed with the NH. When I return to the NH they sound muddy and weird until I adjust to them again. All this OMGZZZ MY NH CHANGED AFTER 1300 HOURS is kind of true except it's their friggin head that's adjusted lol Still I really like the NH but I'm not blind to it's faults like a lot of NH owners I've come across.

Really quiet around here about the Nightowl which is kinda disappointing! Reviews seem very positive where available.

The Nightowl and Fiio X5 seem like a pretty strong portable/on the go/workplace setup.

Finally had a chance to go down to the store and bring my entire stack with me (Gungnir Multibit/Mjo2/800S).

I gotta say was pretty disappointed overall. I know the 800S can be kind of clinical sometimes but the Nightowl almost sounded muffled/wooly...something was weird. This was quickly taken off the list. The one that won me over today was the Audeze LCD-XC. The slam on that thing is absolutely incredible out of the Mjo2, just wish they were lighter...
