    Hi There,
Recently rediscovered the joys of headphone listening whilst doing the worlds most boring job. Have an ageing pair of HD-580's I use at home with a Massdrop CTH, various DAC's and an intel compute stick running Roon bridge. Files & Tidal sit on an iMac. The iMac also feeds my speaker system via an AQ DF red, amp is a 20 year old Sugden A21 class A space heater, speakers from AVI. I tend to listen to more vinyl on the speaker system.

Seems the 580's just get better when fed a better signal, I had to replace the drivers a couple of years ago after one of the diaphragms disintegrated so I'm not sure how close to their original sound they actually are as it appears the replacement capsules are the same for all the 5/6XX models.

Mobile duties are covered by an OPPO HA2SE and either Etymotic ER4XR's or Beyerdynamic T51's when I don't feel like stuffing foreign bodies deep in my head. I have custom moulded tips for the Ety's which are more comfortable than the 3 flange ones, however they do seem to brighten/harden the upper mids a bit and don't seal quite as well, although they seal better than any other in ear I've tried.

One day I will find a DAC I like.

I shall mostly continue to lurk .... cuz its what I do best. Also I have bad enough tinnitus that my opinions are mostly bullshit.

    Cheers
    Ant

Hey what's up guys and gals? Long time no see!! Been away for a while. Been going through some health issues with my family. Both parents were really sick. Unfortunately my mom didn't make it, and she passed. Kind of hit me hard and I took some time away from things. Coming back around now. Just thought I'd say hello.

    Hello Ladies and Gentlemen!

It is my unique pleasure to stop lurking and officially join this community. I stumbled on this site after visiting the usual suspects and was struck by how different the overall tone was here. Not only was I struck, but I remain somewhat intimidated by the vast amount of knowledge and experience here. That said, I will continue to read and learn as much as I can. Enjoy your music!

    Hello all,

I'm from Los Angeles and am a professional broadcast engineer.

In addition to attending CanJam 2018 where I had the pleasure of talking for an hour with Tyll Hertsens before he retired, I've been to The Source AV, Audeze's HQ and the Schiitr. I've heard most offerings from Schiit and Audeze, and have also listened to the HE-1 Orpheus, Focal Utopia, MrSpeakers Aeon/Ether/Voce, Fostex, Ultrasone (apologies), STAX SR009's on BHSE, Sonoma Model One and a few other cans.

Personally, I listen to HD800 SDR's and over the past 7 months have moved through the Schiit line. In all, I've bought seven of their products. I started with Vali 2 & Modi Multibit, added Loki and Wyrd, then upgraded to Mjolnir 2 and added Gungnir Multibit. Recently, I purchased a Lyr 3 from an SBAF member and am currently waiting on it to be delivered. I have a 4490 G2 DAC card waiting for it, for which I'll provide some impressions of since it seems like there isn't really a lot of information on this card out there.

    Looking forward to contributing!

    Rosh

    Greetings,

My name is Roman and I'm a software engineer from Seattle, WA. I'm rather new to audio gear and have a lot to learn so mostly prefer to read rather than to post something useless. I already have some audio equipment and most of it was an impulse buy. And you know what? You guys literally saved my wallet - I was going to take a plunge on a ridiculously expensive gear after reading many reviews and getting into all the hype but after reading a discussion here my wallet is safe. So thanks a lot, the information here is priceless.

    Greetings all from Texas,

I am a flutist by training (Music degree from SMU: yes they do more than lose football games). Originally from Philadelphia, where they put great classical music and bad sports teams in the water.

My dad had a Gerrard turntable, Scott amp, and some KLH speakers. Got me liking HiFi.

In college, I had a roommate that had the bug. AR turntable, Adcom amps, and dynaudio speakers.

Liking a huge range of music with wife and kids who don’t appreciate it, I have gone through lots of headphones. Spend lots of time going between HD600’s and AKG 701’s through a woo Audio 3… but really fell in love after taking the plunge with stax… orchestral instruments sound just “right”, especially the releases of notes.

So, when the Yen was weak, I got a pair of 407's and a Stax SRM-1/MK-2 Pro that just needed new power supply caps for a song. Was very happy with that and my old benchmark DAC. then got some schiit... first a modi miltibit, then a eitr.. now, thanks to reading here, I have taken the plunge on a gungnir yesterday...

I have been doing some LP digitizing, as there are many albums, especially in classical music, that were either never released digitally, or the remaster was obviously done by a deaf stoner. Modded SL1200—> prism lrya--> pure vinyl does the job nicely. Going to keep upgrading that turntable… and will start using a 80khz ultrasonic cleaner...

As a start to add speakers back into the mix, I have a pair of Wild burro Betsys in open baffles that I enjoy: building a Pass DIY Amp camp amp to go with them. Also in the mix will be more Pass labs loveliness, including (once I get the courage) one of the other pass Labs amps, and will do the Lxmini eventually when I find time to build, along with Nelson’s active crossovers.

I still do talks on music and business, as well as play recitals at colleges, but my main gig is a company that makes orchestral string instruments, as well as working with two flute companies as their North American distributor/sales geek.

I have been a lurker on this forum for a while after realizing you guys are crazy, but my flavor of crazy… not to kiss arses, but things here just seem to make more sense compared to other forums I have been on.

Will limp into posting when it makes sense. Thanks for having me.
    Jason

Hello all. I've found my way to SBAF as my interest in Hi-Fi headphone setups has been rekindled lately. I temporarily had a grand delusion of a speaker setup before coming to the realization that it just doesn't make sense at my current point in life. So, I turned my attention to my headphone setup, which had gone unchanged for some time.

I currently am running mostly redbook ALAC into an Eitr/Modi Multibit/Loki/MCTH/HD600 chain. But, I have been finding that upon really giving it some thought and listening, the HD600 might be just a bit too hot for my tastes. So, as I look to make some changes and upgrades, I have been lurking many threads here. In addition to general audio discussion, I hope to leverage the knowledge and no-BS attitude here to make some educated decisions, and eventually help others do the same.

Currently, I am eyeing a Lyr 3, AFO, and LCD2C, and eventually another dynamic and a Gungnir Multibit.

Are you looking into new phones as well? I find that the most efficient way to get my desired sound.

Yes, I'm thinking the Aeon Flow Open and/or Audeze LCD-2 Classic.

    Hi,
I have been a rather inactive member here since late 2016, that's when I got more seriously into earphones and headphones. I am known as Otto Motor on Head-Fi and as Dr. Schweinsgruber elsewhere.

Born and raised in Germany, I am now also a citizen of Canada.

I always wanted to be a rebel and didn't even know how easy that was these days: I am banned on Head-Fi from two threads for mentioning a "forbidden" earphone and for alluding to a certain forbidden seller - with no chance of parole. Nevertheless do I write earphone reviews over there and, one day will move over here, when completely banned. This may also be inevitable with my increasing knowledge of earphones - though I am still learning. I would also like to become more technically savvy with modding.

My first somewhat decent earphone was the Sennheiser PX-100 some 10 years ago. Two years ago, I discovered Chifi and expanded my horizon. Today, I own some 70 headphones and earphones.

I like earphones as they are handily stowed in a shirt pocket between planes...after horrible experiences with my bulky Bose QC-15 NC headphones.

Anyway, I will become more active here in the future with increasing knowledge.

Thanks everybody for sharing your knowledge.
