I just discovered this neat stuff call "Hi-Fi" and am looking forward to tossing out good opinions after bad.

(Most of my gear predates Moses and these tin crickets in my ears are louder than your system)

[edited to add relevence] I've known about SBAF for about 4 or 5 years but some of the posters pointed their opinions at people, not audio. Because I don't have much patience for folk with no patience, I tend to get sucked into those battles. So I browsed. It might be safe now that I've stopped producing testosterone.

    All the best

Hi - I work at custom cans in the uk, modifying, tweaking and re-designing headphones. I am hoping to pick up some measurement tips to help me test and tweak designs.
I am mainly here to learn, but if you have any questions or have a project that you think I can help with feel free to hit me up. I have access to a decent workshop and a relative free rein to try out mods and ideas but am usually pretty busy.

Dude! It's been a few years since we've chatted way back at headfi. We were discussing some early era mods for the HD25 and cables, and you sent me some laser cut Beyer baffles back before 3d printing was commonplace.

Hi I just joined here but I use the same nickname and avatar in all audio forums, so yes it is me elsewhere. I am into hifi for some 20 years now and listen mostly to speakers but I also love good headphones. Neither objectivist nor subjectivist extremist, I like exploring both. Born and raised in São Paulo city in Brazil.

Currently looking into buying a new DAC+headamp combo for my second system to use with my Audeze LCD-XC and speakers through its balanced outputs.

Finally joined. Same nickname at the other headphone forum. We all probably have met at some point in the last 20 or so years.

After more than 2 decades of this, I have preliminary settled on the below brands that have consistently delivered quality and value in sound reproduction:
    Linn - 3 pieces
Ayre - 5 pieces (at one time in life, now downsized to just 3)
AMB (not a brand but who is counting): 3 pieces
Audeze - 3 pieces (at one time in life, now downsized to just 1)
Grado - 3 pieces (not really high quality reproduction or good value but I just love hearing them once in a while - with proper EQ of course)

    Hi everyone,

I signed up here years ago, but due to a combination of moving away from audio for a bit and other lifestyle changes, all interaction on headphone forums ceased. I've been lurking here for a long time and I decided it was finally time to say hello. Thank goodness for password resets. I'm getting back into headphone audio pretty heavily these days, which is why I've been crawling the pages a lot these days.

Yes, I was/am a member on the other headphone forum. This place seems more like me.

Over the years, I went through some pretty decent gear, but after some of it has failed, acted up, or I got hosed on a used item from the other site (and I'm too lazy and short of funds to fix it, especially anything that needs to be sent back to Serbia for servicing), my current system is Gungnir Multibit A1, Teac HA-501, and Senn HD 650. No need to discuss what's currently in the bone yard because I don't want to cry. I'm currently at the "good enough for now" stage. As an added bonus, I feel pride in knowing my gear fails the ASR SINAD tests.

I've had tinnitus my whole life, probably from all the ear infections I had as a kid, so I'm very sensitive to treble and digititis. My current setup is smooth and keeps the ear gremlins away. Although, when I want to traumatize my entire head region I will use my Grado SR 80e.

I don't have any measurement gear, but I like reading about measurements. Due to my lack of measurement gear, I have always let my ears evaluate. Sometimes I hit. Sometimes I miss. I want to learn from this forum.

I'm a huge Schiit fanboy. Back in the peak of my days on the other forum, I was a beta tester for the Asgard 2 after they went though the whole transformer buzzing problem.

    Hello from rainy Croatia,

Just signed up for the first time, even though I've been lurking for a long time. I've been active (relatively) on other audio forums for almost a decade, with the "HF one" probably being the main reason behind my obsession with everything headphone-related. I've owned and sold a lot of headphones over the years, definitely close to a 3-digit number, including several flagship models, with the Beyerdynamic T1 being my go-to for most of the last decade. I've also done my best to listen to as many headphones as possible, and even written several reviews on various forums in the past. (with some "front-page success" too)

However, for the past couple of years the main focus of my audio-related interests has been DIY, to a lesser degree in the sense of modifying existing headphones, and to a much larger degree in a sense of designing things from scratch, while focusing on making my designs highly modular and efficient, and utilizing a lot of industrial grade additive manufacturing (I don't play with silly FDM 3D printers ;)), both of which give me a lot of freedom for customization. Even though I'm officially a medical student, deep inside I'm a creative soul always tinkering and playing with all things tech and craft related, and trying to come up with new ways to spend money on various projects and silly prototypes. I hope to learn more from other members, but I also hope I'll get a chance to share my own work, experiences, findings, and "knowledge I've gathered" by teaching myself how to do things from scratch while playing around with various ideas and concepts over the past couple of years. To start with, if there will be any interest in it, I can share a very detailed guide on post-processing 3D printed parts that I've put together while working on my own projects, so that anyone can freely use it and make their DIY headphones look like a million dollars. Just let me know where exactly to post it.

    It's snowing here!

my discovery was a Dynaco Stereo 70 found at a garage sale. when I met Bob Hovland and he worked on it I was hooked. the amp is now with a friend.

I usually walk the Camino in Spain and Portugal twice a year and also spend time in SE Asia. hopefully back to normal soon.

I've been lurking since the Chang Star days, and I finally got around to registering. I've been into sinking money into this hobby for the last decade or so, and I've always gone to this forum as a knowledge base. I'm feeling like upgrading a few things over the next year, and I hope to be able to contribute impressions of new gear. Realistically, I might also just talk about whatever random heavy metal cassette tapes that come in the mail.

    Current travel/portable:
AQ Dragonfly Red -> IEM Match -> Campfire Andromeda

    Current 2 Channel:
    Raspberry Pi 2 -> Audio-GD DI 3 -> Lavry DA10 -> Audio-GD SA-31 -> B&K ST-140 -> JBL L80t3

    Vinyl:
    Denon DP45 -> AT 440mla cart -> Schiit Mani

I've had to spend a lot of time on the road for work until very recently, and my 2 channel system was put on the back burner about a decade ago. I have a few other headphones still sitting around (AKG Q701, Denon D2000, AKG K550), but they mainly see use when I'm playing the guitar late at night.

My other hobbies include playing the guitar, fixing broken Volvos (current project is an S60R), hanging out with dogs, and trying to not set myself on fire in the kitchen.

Welcome! Nice setup you have, you say you are thinking about upgrading over the next year, what type of stuff are you thinking of adding/subtracting from your setup? Still trying to refine the portable or gonna try and tweak and tune your 2 channel again?

Very cool! I have seen you posting a decent amount and nice to see some background on you! I saw you bought the Modius, but since you have the Gungnir Multibit would love see an impressions when you get it. I am in the market to upgrade my components, and the Gungnir Multibit is the top of my DAC list.

I'd be happy to post my comparisons. One caveat, though. I have the A1 Gungnir, and while I've not heard the A2, it's reported to be warmer than the A2. In fact, with my amp and Senn HD 650, it can be a really warm synergy. Sometimes too much of a good thing. That's another reason I'm trying out the Modius. I should have it mid next week.

I'm definitely thinking about experimenting with a new 2 channel amp and possibly speaker set up. I really like the idea of something more efficient, possibly full range, horns, or open baffle. I might also try a pi2AES or a new cartridge on the turntable. Hopefully there's a lot I can learn in the process.

Been reading posts from on forum for a few years, but hesitated to join this forum since I had to fake my age. I just graduated from college, and I'm the kid that has no friends as nobody talks about fidelity on a daily basis. Finally signed up as I found out this the taste of this forum fits me better. I recently got a adi-2 pro, and decided to keep it only as a measurement gear. E.g. the DM source purchased last year and Gungnir A2 purchased after the RME.

My major is electrical engineering, and I really like making audio circuits. My dream is to design a PCM -> DSD chip with FPGA, and run it with a DSC1 DAC with better analog circuits. Assembled a DSC1 in high school, and an AMB B22 when I was a freshman. As I learned electronics, I have drew a dozen of schematics for audio amps, but none of them made it to real life. I'm finalized a full FET design a couple months ago, maybe I can build it out later this year.

    Headphones:
HD6xx, HD800, Verum 1, Focal elex, and some others I rarely use.

    Speakers:
Presonus E44 pair with Temblor T10

    DAC and amp:
    DM source, Gungnir MB A2

    Measurement gears:
    MiniDSP EARs, ADI-2 pro, 2i2 + a couple mics, THX 789
