Hey guys, my name is Matt and I'm from Sydney!

DISCLOSURE: I came up with this username when I was wagging highschool to play DotA Allstars with my Indian mate. He would always set his name as something playful bashing the fact that I am Jewish. I reciprocated and the name stuck. (The name stuck better than "darksin24" which was frankly pretty cringy) Recently I have been getting banned from forums and games because of it, so I thought I would just mention that I don't mean any offense by it!

Long time lurker here - love this board! I reckon there is always one hobby board that trumps all others in terms of advice, sense of community and humor. (TheGearPage is the Head-Fi of the guitar world, change my mind)

Been messaging with a few users on here who have been super friendly and helpful - one of them suggested that I start posting so here I am.

Ill jot down the obligatory hobbies/interests below (I find this oddly satisfying - probably because a part of me secretly misses online dating weirdly enough)

    What are you into, man:
Beer and bourbon. A little too much if you ask me, I've been trying to force myself to have 3 dry days a week...
PC gaming, Magic the Gathering, guitar, music, breathing and fantasy books. I will unashamedly force my opinions regarding Kindles and the MtG Commander format if you enter a discussion with me about either subjects.

Also work as a sys admin.

    What tunes are you digging:
Rock, soul and blues. Besides from the usual 60's - 00's stuff here are a few of my favs:
Khruangbin, Elder, Earthless, Kikagaku Moya, Growlers, Allah-Lahs, Mystic Braves, Graveyard, Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats

What audio gear do you have:
    ATM I'm loving:
    • Eitr > Modi Multibit > MCTH > Clear/HD6XX (I honestly think I can stay this way 5eva, it's pretty darn satisfying... also Australia doesn't have the best second hand market. Or First hand market.)

    • ZX-2 > OG Andros (Again don't see any reason to change this. I'm obsessed with value proposition and synergy and think that both the above setups reflect that perfectly)

    • Lexicon Alpha > JBL LSR305s (As you can tell I am super daring with my choices, I like to live in the wild side. Kinda wanted to introduct this into my HP chain but after a Pepe Silvia-esque analysis I decided it was too much trouble. Wish these didn't hiss but can live with it)
HOWEVER this leads me to my next segment...

    What are your short-term goals?
Happy with my portable/open-back system. Mostly GAS-free. Except when I close my eyes at night I do see the SW51...
    1. To find a suitable closed-back solution for the office. So far have tried the Eikon and Elegia but didn't like them due to their tonality. Looking at possibly the Verite closed or Stellia. Slowly coming to terms that this may never be an option.
    2. To find a simple 2 channel setup for my TV that can easily have spotify play off.
Well that was probably already too long but as I said, I miss filling these out from my online dating days.

    Cheers!

    Hello from the Philippines!

Due to the pandemic, I've been having a lot of time listening to my desktop rig at home.

    my main rig is:
Schiit Modius -> Cavalli LC 2.0/Feliks Echo (to be delivered) -> LCD-2F/T1.2/K701 etc.

Who is this rando? Why are you here?
    • Hey everyone, I'm fromthepuggle. I'm an analog synth addict, and I compose and record music that is mostly vintage analog synths, drums, bass, occasional vocals). Sort of Zombi meets 70's Pink Floyd, soundtracks for horror films that never existed mixed with crazy time signatures. My day job is as a professor of philosophy, media studies, and film, with one of the small perks that now I teach the electronic music course at my small college as well. So now I have the excuse of saying research on my crazy hobby is 'for work'. Been recording music and playing various instruments and singing in bands since HS. I was in several Rush cover bands as the Geddy, mostly for the fun of it, but playing Pink Floyd and grunge covers live was a trip too. Lead vocals and bass more fun live than synth, but in the studio it's all about synth for me. Was always planning on sending my demo recordings out and then the music industry for all but a few pop-stars kinda vanished, so I'm quite glad I've got the day job! Luckily, it has now allowed me to get a studio that can record stuff that sounds near professional. I'm currently upping the quality of my listening environment, and while the mantra was always 'you can't mix in headphones,' that seems to no longer be the case, so I'm researching more stuff. Didn't realize the explosion of development in this area!
Ok but why are we the ones who have to hear your questions?
    • Well this forum seemed to have a lot of knowledge when I found posts here, and after learning a ton on the infamous Gearslutz (under the same username), I figured join another one and learn more. I was googling, and what I read on this forum seemed helpful. I like forums. Even when people are crappy to each other on them, you can learn a lot in between the nastiness people seem to relish throwing around under cover of anonymity. I figure the only way to deter that is give people the benefit of the doubt, return snark with sincerity, and eventually learn as much as possible along the way.
    What's with "fromthepuggle"?
    • My dear puppy, Puggle, who is a puggle, was my dear friend, mascot, and companion for 15yrs. After a long, healthy, puggly life, he passed away summer 2020.
    Main Cans:
    • I recently purchased a used pair of HEDD Heddphones to see if, with can opener software and a decent amp, I really could mix on them as well as reference monitors. Been quite pleased with the HEDD so far, didn't realize I was going to need an amp (still learning about cans!), so JBS Atom arrives later this wk.
    Room:
    • I'm using Neumann KH120as for my main mixing monitors. Semi-treated room, 5 2-inch absorber panels for treble, 4 5-inch thick bass traps arriving in two wks. I'm likely upgrading from the Neumanns in the not too distant future, considering pair of ATC SCM 20asl.
    Other cans:
    • I've got Senn HD280 for tracking phones. Never quite liked them. Accentuate bass and low mids, gotta get tracking phones that don't do that. Once I heard the HEDD, I was like, damn, where did all the crappy mids come from on the 280s? The Hedd sound near identical to my monitors in terms of freq curve, tho, which is a whole new exp.
Genres: Prog Rock, creepy horror film soundtrack type stuff, some folk/industrial/electronic influences.

    Planned/Upcoming:
    • I'd like to try the sr1a with jotunheim and see if they beat the hedd for mixing. I'm moving back to an apartment in brooklyn quite soon, which means neighbors getting angry if you make too much noise at all hours, so mixing in headphones would make working to the wee hours of the night muuuuuch more doable.

Hello everyone, greetings from the small country of Slovenia!

Occasional lurker here (specifically in the modifications threads), who has finally decided to make an Account and introduce myself.

I am IRL a technical advisor/support with some knowledge in the field of mechanical engineering and long time music fan.

While my focus has only in the recent years turned towards HIFI headphones, I have been lucky to be able to enjoy music on good gear my whole life, due to getting my fathers hifi gear (generally speakers and amps) passed down to me from a young age.

As to why I switches to headphone? Well mostly at first due to noise concerns I had some time ago, at which point I decided to try HIFI headphone and have actually found them to be a more focused, personal experience than speakers, which got me quite interested in hearing more of em and kinda started me on my own more active road into Hifi Audio.

Being a DIY kind of a person (delving in everything from forging knives, welding constructions, CNC conversion, ...), I am also very interested in messing with my gear, as far as modifications go and making my own accessories like cables.

Regarding my gear, there have been quite few headphones up to this point of my gear churning journey and right now my main regularly used cans are HD600, HD800 and KSC75 (for when I can not sit at the desk).
The source that I use is my PC with a Schiit Modius, that is being amplified by either the Schiit Asgard 3 or the Valahalla 2 depending on how I am feeling/headphone choice and the Asgard is used as a preamp for my Schiit Vidar which I use to power a pair of Klipsh RP600-M (do not buy unless you plan to mod and can get it cheap, cabinet has terrible resonance at 700hz).

I also own a MiniDSP EARS rig and am currently looking to design my own IEC711 based rig for testing headphones and be more precise at analyzing what I am hearing and what modifications are exactly doing to the headphone.

Main reason of joining is the fact that this forum has quite the knowledgeable user base which might be interested in having technically based discussion regarding headphones and audio in general.

Here is to hoping we shall have many fruitful conversations! :punk:

    Edit: Fixing typos ...

Hi, I’m bigpond. I’m a trenchant advocate for objective measurements. I’ve been asked by the folks at ASR to help you all see the light of reason.

I really, really hope that’s a sarcastic joke...otherwise, the ban hammer is going to come swift and hard.

Edit: and not because we don’t believe in measurements, quite the opposite. But not in the way that ASR does. SBAF’s POV around measurements and their usefulness has been made clear again and again, which is linked in the header: https://www.superbestaudiofriends.o...ically-incorrect-audio-blog.7261/#post-249242

    Hi all,

I’m SnowRang3r. My username is because where I live it’s snowy 6months of the year, my dogs name is Ranger and I’m not very creative at coming up with online handles ;)

I was already getting into this hobby before but switching to working from home full time in March has really made me dive in.

I also enjoy speakers but living in a condo with neighbours I focus more on headphones for now!

My main headphones right now are the Focal Clear Professional but I also have a pair of AKG K702, Beyerdynamic DT880 600ohm, and the well know 6XX.

Gear wise right now I’m using the Schiit Modius along with a Geshelli Erish amp. Not going to lie measurements lead to this as a starting point (and what a starting point. $400 for US made balanced wasn’t possible a while ago) but I’ve seen enough YouTube videos and reading here to know measurements don’t tell the whole story.

Hoping to branch out and try some other gear and hopefully find some synergy with my Focal Clears.

    Hello all,

I'm a TV and film editor, and I love the experience of good music on good gear to unwind. I've been slowly moving up the ladder of personal audio for the past decade, and I've appreciated enormously the information and insight of this site. Although I will likely mostly lurk and continue to soak up info, I created an account to contribute my experience here and there.

    Hello,

My name is Evan, I am 31 and live in California. I like music, especially small ensemble classical, jazz, some rock and world music. My favorite record for the moment (I listen to LPs, CDs and the occasional digital stream) is one I picked up recently featuring Ali Akbar Khan on the sarod (Indian classical instrument).

My current setup consists of a Cambridge Audio 650A integrated amplifier--my first amplifier purchase--and RDL Acoustics F1 loudspeakers, which I recently found locally, and which blew my Cerwin Vega Re25's out of the water (and into my neighbor's living room) in terms of clarity, depth, everything but the tight exaggerated bass Vega's are known for, which don't come close to compensating for what they lack in mid and hi tone (IMO). Anyway, I would consider these F1s my first tase of audiophile quality sound, and more of the level of the amplification driving them.

The rest of my system includes a new TEAC TT with Sumiko Moonstone cartridge, Cambridge Audio 651P phono stage, Musical Fidelity v90 DAC and Onkyo 7030 CD player (competent transport). Once I get better speakers--interested in hearing suggestions for these--I will upgrade the rest of my system. But as it stands, I am content...

Greetings to all and will be reading more,

    Evan

    Hey Everyone,

I have been lurking for a while now. I finally registered today. I am 37 yrs. I listen to everything but I normally get stuck in little kicks that last for a few weeks. Right now is mainly jazz and punk.

What audio gear do you have:

I am using a Gen 1 Woo Audio WA6. I change my tubes around depending on what I am in the mood for. I mainly go with 6EM7 or 6SN7. My main headphones are an old pair of HD800 (No mods). Sometimes I pull out the LCD-XC. I have a few other pairs that I really don't use anymore.

I look forward to my time here!

    Nick
