    Hello
, I am a MOT (or will be once moderated). I design and build audio circuits for love and now money. I learned of SBFA when Sine asked to for a headphone amp (The BLACK AMP) cught his attetnion. It is now on a loaner tour. I fell in love with audio 68 years ago when I was 8. At 12 I started modding tube gear beginning a lifetime of designing and building audio devices of all kinds, high-end Hi-fi, studio, professional, commercial, theater, broadcast, along with acoustic design in sites and facilities. Started my own manufacturing company in 70s (The Quintessence Group), The first of 34 patents in early 1980 was for an efficient Class-A amplifier. Created over 50 products for a variety of companies (SAE, Adcom, Parasound, blaa, blaa, blaa - BFD. Took an hiatus in 1996 cratering the Blade computer, virtualization, then non-invasive medical devices.

Retired in 2014, fell in love again with audio, hit woodshed for 5 year coming up with a different way to make gain happen, had an eargasm, designed and made what you see starting with austinaudioworks.com.

This is fun, making Audio Art, causing people to have more fun with music. Makes life worth living. Music reproduction is an illusion, good audio art can make you hallucinate (let's he honest, there is no band or musician in the room with you when you listen), it is all in your mind. Which is exactly were everything else is. Thus my art has always been magical. By education I am a physicist and an anthropologist so I understand the measurement world and it sever limitations, that is too is an illusion for all need something to believe in drive. The Musings section of my website is were I post my thoughts on these issues . Please enjoy and remember, you know what is good if you like it, don't let anyone tell you that you are wrong, you are right.

Just recently started to take audio seriously. Have enjoyed reading and learning on this forum. My preferences in sound seem to favor warmer sounding equipment and I enjoy listening to a wide range of music. I'm open to just about every style.

    Hi,

I was a bit into audio when I was young, bought me a nice stereo which I enjoyed a lot and then life happened I guess. No time/budget and lack of WAF for spending much on audio. My listening habits moved more to PC/headphone, I got myself an essence stx II 7 yrs ago to upgrade the sound quality and I gave my old stereo a streamer upgrade by putting a CCA in front of it. My main headphone is currently a DT990Pro 250ohm

All in all pretty happy with the setup until a couple of months ago when I bought this silly marshall smart speaker. Both me and the wife were impressed with the sound that came of this little box. As my old stereo was dying I seized the moment to look into upgrading the audio setup. I think this event kinda woke the audiophile in me from hibernation and after some visits to local dealers testing some stuff I bought a Rega Aethos and a Bifrost 2 to get a feel of the Schiit dacs before maybe spending mucho dinero on their bigger brothers. I'm still looking into the source and but that's another story...

Being freshly reintroduced in the audio landscape, I like what Schiit is doing (although they sent my a silver BF when I ordered a black one) for the budget. After getting me the Rega, I'm not so happy anymore with my desktop setup and Schiit seems to have some nice offerings to step into the game again at a reasonable cost and this forum has been very helpful with all the comparisons of their gear (and others).

I listen to all kinds of music, electro, hip-hop, classic rock, indie, country, classical, had rock, the occasional pop. It all depends on the mood but on headphones its mainly not fast and hard, more pleasing sounds for my ears, preferably good quality recordings. As I get older I notice I like ear massage more than an adrenaline injection if you know what I mean. I listen a lot, hours per day and sometimes get fatigue after a few hours. I'm also looking to try to improve that fatigue together with a step up in SQ.

Am I camp warm poo or not, I'm wondering myself to be honest. I want music to be engaging, either allowing my mind to drift away on the sweet melodies or to feel my blood rushing when the music is pumping. Off course I want to hear detail, clear separation, good imaging and all that stuff as well but the prime focus is to engage.

    New.

Not much to say. I've been a hobbyist for a while, getting into headphones due to kid (super unique, right?).

Longtime lurker, finally have something to contribute.

I'll try to keep my opinion in my arse.

    Hello,

I am new to the forum but not the hobby. I’ve been using various headphones, amps, and DACs for nearly 20 years. I am here to learn more about the hobby and contribute to positive discussions. Currently using an HD800 and M^3.

    Hi,
I am new here. I like audio bargains and value. I am a fan of dynamic driver IEMs but hybrids and all BA units have their place. :) I usually listen to music on the move.

I am a tv/film editor who likes to listen to music to unwind. I have been increasingly interested in hifi gear for the past 5 years, both personal audio and speakers. I'm not an expert by any stretch, but I love to soak up some of the knowledge here.

My main goal is to find gear to allow me to connect with my music, but I admit that I also enjoy the engagement with the gear itself. Although I often don't understand it, I appreciate the art and science that goes into well-crafted audio equipment.

I'm new here although I have been lurking here for a while and really enjoy the humor and comradery in some of the threads. I've been an audiophile for over 40 years and have been setting up an office system lately with mostly Schiity gear.

Hello, Miumiu here, I'm really new to this stuff, so I would apologize immediately on my behalf. I'm just a college student who likes listening majority of doujin music (self-made music in Japan). I've been relying only into cheap headsets that are just really disappointing (2-5$ worth)since I really listen to a lot of genres in doujin music (like classical to any like DnB or Metal). Since I'm just really new to this community, I would like to ask what entry-level audiophile headphones or IEM that can give me warmer signatures (since I don't like bright headphones) but also gives clarity to the singer's voice or gives emphasis on instruments? Forgive me for the generalizations, but I would like to be recommended on some amps for that certain headphone you guys preferred. Thank you, I'm glad to know this community. And if ever, I would like to talk to somebody (maybe discord too) in their free time on things I should be aware of when I'm going to this track of knowing headphones with their ups and downs in beginner's perspective?

    Hi

Long-time lurker, really appreciate this forum. Was on audiogon back in the day, then some other forums, now don't usually post very much. I'm a musician and nature lover.

    Hi,

I am new here. I've always been interested in visual over sound. However started going down a rabbit hole with casual bookshelf speakers on avsforums (current gear = KEFQ100 [desk/nearfield], emotiva b1+, JBL 530, Q Acoustics 3020i [living room]) . Now, because of covid and working from home, my interests are moving more towards headphones. Just trying to really understand the headphone space (headphones [dynamic, planar, wrieless], Amps, DACs,etc.. Also very recently dipping my toes into IEMs but not sure if its suited for me. Just got an Asgard 3 with built in DAC (didnt have a Amp or DAC bfore) and DT770 but had a 6XX for a couple of years now. Current goal is to determine what type of sound suits my preference (I dont really understand all the words - bright/warm/sparkly/etc..). Also trying to see if I can even tell the difference between higher end gear (to me) vs some more moderate stuff. Mostly listening via Spotify, sometimes youtube. Don't really see myself moving to physical media or using a a separate dedicated device, but never say never.

Hi, I'm new here. I've been into headphones for about 10 years with my first gateway the Audio-Technica M50. I currently have a Focal Utopia, Audeze LCD3 and Sennheiser HD800 (SDR Mod) and looking for an amp to play nice with them all. I listen to many genre's of music but am most interested in Indie Rock (80's underground especially), West Coast Jazz and Classic Rock. Hope to learn a lot more here.

    Hey!

I've been lurking for a while, I joined because I enjoy the comradery plus the notion of not taking things too seriously.

I was way into headphones around 8-10 years ago when I was at uni and had a lot more time to sit and listen, then life happened and I sold nearly all my cans.

Working from home has directed me back into the world of enjoying audio and headphones again which I'm happy about.

A pair of PortaPros change my world view, I always used to try and buy headphones/audio equipment with a neutral FR being the goal but really all this meant was overly bright/detailed headphones/speakers, now that I'm older the headphones I used to love (K702s) are too bright for me and listening fatigue is a bitch.

I've recently purchased a used set of HD650s and I can now see why people are always going on about how good they are, I'm enjoying a realistic and non-fatiguing listening experience now.

I look forward to contributing, somehow.

Been lurking here for a while. Old school hifiman/audeze/grado fan now discovering the focal lineup. 10 years on Headfi and SNA without many posts. Recently got the miniDSP EARS for some measurements and headphone diy projects. My own ears + sine sweep to go with the measurements, of course. Looking forward to learning more here.

Was searching for a forum that had members working on the Blon Bl-30 mods. Looks like the folks here on sbaf are getting close to fixing the tonality issues so thought I would join in on the fun.

    Hello all,

my name is Nikos and I live in Athens, Greece, working as a medical rep. I have never been much into audio until last March, when the pandemic hit us and I was forced to work from home for long periods of time. I did not know what I liked, so I bought a pair of Moondrop Starfields, Meze 99 Neos and Edifier S2000 mkiii active speakers, connected to my TV set and fed via Bluetooth from my iPad. I started reading forums, visiting sites and watching YouTube videos to educate and, as time went by, to entertain myself. I found the Starfields lacked bass, making them seem lean and dry (I had not inserted them deep enough, now they are fine), and the Meze had so much bass that it was bleeding into the midrange, coloring everything in a way that did not suit me. I had no serious objection to the speakers but I wanted more so, I thought I am more of a speaker type of guy. I had read a lot about headphones and was thinking of, maybe, buying a ZMF and giving it another try, together with a pair of Triangle Br03 and an IOTAVX SA3 integrated amplifier. I went to audition them. In the shop, I asked to listen to a pair of better speakers as well, to get an idea of where I am at. The manager connected a pair of GoldenEar Triton 7s, 1600 vs 500 euros. THAT was my “Aha” moment, that I will never forget, The sound was so much better, the music so emotional, that I immediately knew I could not settle for anything less. Once you hear it, you cannot unhear it kind of experience. Change of plans, all in on a good 2 channel, that could also serve for TV and movie watching, to help absorb the cost, broadening the use scenarios to my wife. I ended up with a Buchardt A500 system last August and I am very satisfied with no regrets. This autumn I am turning 50 and I decided to, finally, get me a pair of ZMF Aeolus together with, hopefully, an SW51 amplifier, if it is still possible. I like listening to acoustic music, folk, Celtic, female vocals, orchestral, epic rock, soundtracks of my favorite movies.
Thank you for accepting me and be well.

Hi, I've been visiting this site for years, I guess its time to sign up and get more involved in this community.
I like metal music and gears that replays metal music well.
My home setup is modi multibit via USB + koss esp95x, its definitely not the best setup on earth but its good enough for me at this moment.

Howdy. I had a junk pair of speakers since i was in high school in the 1990's never heard anything good until they crapped out and then bought a cheap pair of Klipsch (R-41m) now i at least have an idea what music is supposed to sound like and want to learn what to do next

ha! sounds like my story. I was using trash plugged into a pioneer VSC-O5, a second hand $60 AVR to run music out of my PC. just a very low end pair of klipsch and a modi 3 and i suddenly realized what i was missing. now i wanna drop a ton of cash on some decent schiit gear.
