Hello, very nice to see you all
sorry you have to buy my memoirs to get the full scope threads are hard to manage.
Ecchi Master Chief here. You old pirates already know who I am but for the new guys... I joined Changstar mid 2013 because I was interested in Marv's headphone measurements. From then on, I learned a lot more about headphones, amps, and dacs. Over time, I've learned to trust what the regulars at CS had to say about gear but I would often time verify their findings for myself through buying gear, going to meets, and through loaner programs. I've also learned to not trust the head-fi hype (I rarely even visit there anymore).
Anyways! I'm very happy with my headphone and speaker setup, built with the help of many people from CS. You can find that stuff in my profile page. I also got myself a miniDSP Umik-1, which I've been using to learn how to take "proper" speaker measurements, and how to interpret them. You can follow my journey in the Speaker World subforum!
I'm also a pretty big otaku, though I try to focus more on audio when I'm posting here. My interests primarily lie in Doujin/touhou music, visual novels, and occasionally anime. I used to keep a blog on my otaku interests, but I haven't updated it in a while now. The link is on my profile page and under my avatar if you're interested!
Hi, matey, me is Phillip, old from CS with the 88 suffix.
Currently unemployed in a small town Kuching, I'm still looking for job as an academician but my master degree is quite niche. Something called Learning Sciences.
Btw, nice to meet ya'll.
And welcome to Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, in case you drop by!
Hello. Just another immigrant from the old forum. Due to my inexperience (and tight budget) I don't think I'll be able to contribute here any more than I did there, but as always I enjoy reading. Maybe with more time my audiophilia nervosa will be cured...
Hi. Great to see the new site up and running!
Hi, I'm Kevin. I just recently started posting on CS.
I've been into headphone audio for 10 years or so, but for most of the time was happily in mid-fi purgatory. Over the past year or so I've been moving up to some higher end gear.
Currently listening to Gungnir Multibit->Asgard2->HD800. My amp could use an upgrade but still I am loving the sound.
Hopefully I'll be able to contribute more as time goes on.
Every time I see Dark Helmet I get a chuckle. Rick Moranis was an underrated actor though.
Same "Sqveak" as on chang.
Hi, migrating from Changstar where I had the same alias. I have been more reading and learning rather than writing as I do not have a wealth of experience and not necessarily golden ears either. This migration seemed like a good time to introduce myself.
I am an engineer and scientist by training and past profession, but on IT rather than audio. Consequently I am prone to the objective view to things whenever that is feasible. However, I am also of the opinion that a scientist must remain humble and consider the possiblity that we just might not understand audio enough or not have the technology to be able to quantify and measure all the things that correlate to listening experiences or describe the reality adequately. This was also the situation for chemistry and later physics in the 19th century. And maybe still is, with the dark matter/energy things.
So I liked the balance in Changstar where both the objective measurements and subjective experiences by people with long experience with audio were discussed with high signal to noise ratio and right kind of irreverence and also humor. This is extremely helpful for someone like me who has a passion for music and more head-phone gear than experience to guide the search for the perfect gear. I hope this site will retain those qualities from Changstar.
I'm completely new. I discovered Changstar just recently after following the Big Sound items on Innerfidelity.
I'm 32 & live in the South-West UK. I've been interested in headphones for a couple of years after moving to a flat where speakers would be difficult & discovering that I love the headphone-experience in its own right anyway. I made quite a few purchases during that time - some good, some maybe not so good. Currently very happy with Bottlehead Crack & HD-650s. I'm liquidating most of my other equipment & would like, in time, to learn how to build a new, great-sounding system that is also right for me.
I'm hoping to do this from a more informed position this time.
Also Jeb-Listens on HF & Jeb-Jeb over at the Bottlehead forums.
Thanks & best wishes for your new forum.
Same username as CS. Congrats on getting this site up and running!
Struggles, nice avatar! I see that you too like to drink coffee when watching radar.
Decided on a big name change for this new board. From "gelocks" to "GelockS"!!!!!!!
It took a long long time to come up with this change and I hope that, from an aesthetic point of view, this one is better!!!
Welcome everyone, please enjoy the new site! We still have a lot of work to do, but we are getting there. Lots of extra features and goodies to come!
MrButchi... Still MrButchi... Still the same old swabby.
no way I'm typing another long corny post for this
I'm a furfag blah blah blah head-fi is a cesspool blah blah blah #measurementsmasterrace blah blah blah my headphones are all several times older than me blah blah blah fuck this industry
looking forward to new adventures on not-changstar
Was mostly a lurker at Changstar. Hopefully I'll post more at this new place. I like refined bassy sound signatures. I also am a fan of Burritos.
Same name, same gear, upgraded avatar.
Great to be a part of this! I discovered Changstar just 2 weeks ago. The tone of the website and the refreshing honesty in calling it like it is was a welcome change from the other forum.....
Separate names with a comma.
