Next thing you should do is pick up a Gungnir Multibit for cheap and bypass the output stage directly into the Freya circuit. @brencho can attest to the awesomeness of this.

agreed, was over at Marv's today and the differences going from Gungnir Multibit to Gumbreya took only a few second before restarting the track to notice. it's so much more satisfying-- two things that jumped out immediately were a fuller sound and a more holographic soundstage. i'd take a freya+Gungnir Multibit frankendac over Yggdrasil any day of the week.

What's the secrect word to get the schematics? Only problem is, 90% of my listening is from the vinyl rig now.

Just pop Gungnir Multibit open. Very obvious.

I was gonna stop at a Gungnir Multibit and a Jotunheim.

Now I'm gonna have to throw a fricken Freya onto my shopping list too.

    I hate/love this place.

Welcome to SBAF Tony. Using your preamp to drive headphones isn't in principle a crazy idea. For example, I've done it with good results from one of mine, but of course the crucial metric is that it had an output impedence of <1 ohm.

Can the same thing be done to bypass the output stage in the Yggdrasil?

    @FallingObjects
I feel you. I spent way too much since joinng SBAF. To the tune of thousands of retirement cash. I must admit that I didn't think that my system would sound that good for the price point that I'm at. I stopped myself years ago and didn't finish my system with the amp/preamp/dac equipment that I knew it would take to complete my system to the level that I have heard for years when I was in the business of designing for others with the coin. Damn it. You guys. Is there an end to it all? Yes. It's called "When the Fat Lady Sings". I'm close.

In my retired age of 60 in a few days....
Maybe a better TV (OLED) and sound setup for one of the rooms. My Audio-Technica and HiFiMan headphones are just fine for my ears. Pleasantly satisfied with tube amp. None of you know how freakin nuts I am. But I do. I can pull anything off. I could sell my Mama to you because I can convince you that you need her.

I gonna stick my heels in the asphalt an' stop with 2 REL S3 Subs, 1 Martin Logan Sub, Martin Logan Electromotion ESLs, and all the electronics that it takes to run dat stuff. I'm telling ya...... My listening space is the best I've ever had and it is worth the money spent. Room damping is superb, size is spot on and testing has shown that I'm one lucky man. Once I get cables that maximize the room and equipment...... there is no reason to persue things any further in my livingroom. My enthusiasm must be lassoed and step back on planet Earth. Life goes on.

Spending way too much on the right stuff is very different from spending way to much on the wrong stuff.

    Vidar updates today on HF.

    Post one
First article Vidar clips are in and working well!

(Ignore the silly PEM spacers--production will be Nylocks, but I was being lazy.)

Don't get too excited, though--these are first article prototypes. We're still a ways out from production.

    Post two
We're absolutely taking our time. Sometimes even deliberately.

Funny anecdote: I went over to the stamper to talk to them about some of our other chassis on Friday (because prices are creeping up from the other metal guys, and we have some price-constrained stuff I want to keep, well, price-constrained.)

While I was there, they unexpectedly handed me these first articles (about 3 weeks early) in both CRS and 1050 spring steel. They seemed nonplussed at how excited I was to get them.

"Wow, I never saw anyone that enthusiastic about a stamping before," the owner of the stamping company told me.

"Well, we've been working on this a long time. In fact, the name of the working file for this product is 'vidar 4th.'" I told him.

"Vidar 4th?" he asked, looking confused.

"As in Vidar 1st through Vidar 3rd got thrown out."

"Gotcha," he said, still looking a little skeptical.

"As in, we got to three complete prototypes--boards, chassis, everything--and they all got tossed out--before we got to this one."

"And this one works?" he asked, cautiously

"Thanks to your clip, yes. Otherwise there might have been a Vidar 5th."

He nodded, grinning. "Totally got it now."

Yeah. So yes, we are taking our time.

I like how Jason keeps saying "Not a word outta me until a product is ready to ship" in lessons learnt in his book, and he ends up talking about it anyway. ;)

Reminds me of some of the inscriptions in the runout groove area of LPs. I find those cool (and sometimes mysterious).

The Krell is US12.5K MSRP though. It should be better. Putting it in perspective, you can get like ~18 Vidars for one Krell.

I wouldn't feel confident judging an amplifier by listening to it through one set of speakers. Unless those speakers are mine and I am shopping for an amplifier for my speakers.
