I agree. Two less well-known good synergies are worth mentioning in case anyone's still interested. hidehavoc (on CS) suggested trying ER4S with it, and that's a winner. K50x also sounds good with it.

I couldn't stand it and bought one. I sorta liked the Vali, and sorta not. Gain switch, no ringing, tube rollability all are steps in the right direction. Course I'll just wait and see what tube HF says to use, and set it and forget it. Sadly, that's probably exactly what I'll do…

I understand the excitement over a value / entry amp that performs well a fantastic price, but it seems like people may be going a bit overboard with furor. Half of the messages are saying they have purchased this based solely on a couple of opinions (well, very very well respected opinions). People are awarding it best of 2015 and golden rods on blind faith. Isn't this the hype train or at least symptom of HF-itis? Why are the hardened pirates of SPAF having to change their underwear over an entry level amp? Am I missing something obvious?

I personally am very happy with my own Shiit products, think they produce some of the best products in the hobby at much more reasonable prices than the competition. Am I just butt hurt that I paid 4x for the Lyr 2? Could be. I can see myself recommending this for people getting into the hobby, people looking to upgrade from their lifeless amp / dac combo they purchased from amazon, or to open eyes to a well engineered product from a well respected brand.

BTW - bought the TH-x00 based on purrin's recommendation of here so feel free to disregard the above.

I see your point, but I think a lot of people may have already heard the original vali (including myself) and/or own one and for the price, it is an outstanding amp. The new features and roll-able tubes, plus the gain switch and pre-amp outputs make this a great value. And Schiit is known for making products that are high-quality with a great price. So like I said, I am not saying that you're opinion is incorrect, I m just saying I can see why members are interested so much in this amp, including myself.

    Exactly.

Plus, it's a lot easier to spend $169 on a company that has already proven itself countless times than $1000+ on new products. Plus you don't have to worry about resale prices going down because of the demand of schiit products and lack of sales.

My thing about it getting some sort of award was more a joke on how they look sorta similar. I haven't even heard it, so it'd be premature for me to think it'd win some award of the year 2015. Purrin has given this a rave review, and for the most part, his reviews are usually on point. However it's a data point like other reviews will be when they come to light. I'd think all the people mentioning that it should get an award is more tongue in cheek than anything. That said, I'm looking forward to listening to it when I get the chance. Ugh, and I just got the Liquid Carbon.

This is making me want to sell my element and get a modi 2u and a vali 2. I'm already having to put in money to get it changed to dac out, so this may be a choice I have to make.

Edit: Plus, it would go well with the modded HD650 and THX00 (or Vibro mk2, depending on what the person I'm trading my Omni to chooses in the end.)

I think you're better off holding out for a more substantial upgrade.

You're being a touch sensitive. No one has proclaimed this as the second coming.

The Vali 2 is cheap and a decent component from early accounts. It has nice features - single tube that's rollable, preamp and gain switch. Schiit has form in offering components that present great value and most people here can attest to that. Shouldn't be a surprise that people expect this to be a good component for the price. We expect that from Schiit now.

Normally, I'd agree with you, but I was more coming at it from a "that Modi 2u is a lot more versatile a unit and I could use that optical-in."

I'm also trying to decide if I even like the Element all that much.

    @schiit

Out of curiosity, what is going to happen with that gigantic stock of sub-miniature tubes that you used with the vali? I remember you saying in your blog post, that you bought enough to last half a decade.

Or are they fully sold out @@?

My nomination of Vali 2 is based on my past year experience that no amp or amp+DAC combo under 450 Canadian, other than GOV2, has impressed me. Nor have any other individuals I trust has said good things about things in this price range. GOV2 needs an uncommon balanced adaptor to sound its best. At the end of the year Marv, whose taste I do understand, says something spectacular about Schiit, a company I have good experience with. Plus I have an idea of the original Vali. This almost guarantees my liking of Vali 2.

Schiit helps Canada a lot too. That's where all the aluminum comes from, or at least where most of the smelters are in North America.

Where is the Modi 2 Multibit ($230) I was promised four months ago, so I can pair the Vali 2 and that DAC for Christmas gifts?

I have to send a lot of that combo as apologies to people I gifted Audioengjne D1 and D3 to in Christmas 2012...

Not warm, but also a bit laid back. That's why I threw in the Sovtek 6922. It's an upper-mid forward and bright tube. If you want neutral with a bit of laid back, try Telefunken 7DJ8. It's a 7V instead of 6.8V tube, but it seems to work just fine, and runs a lot cheaper.

Depends on the headphone. If HD800s, I'd run the Telefunkens. With HD650 or X00, the Sovteks.
