Maybe it's digital volume control without loss of fidelity. Sits right before the DAC. It's more important than an amp in the sense that you no longer need the analog volume control and all the issues that come with it.

Or maybe it's a DSD DAC ... just kidding... RIP Loki

Well, just curious, what kind of cable could we use to connect the Manhattan Schiit with an amp (such as the SE amp Vali)? If the amp is balance-outputed?

Will Vali+Manhattan >> Rag? (In the case of headphones.)

    Cheers.

It might be a bit premature for these types of questions, seeing as the product is still under wraps.

I have an issue with all these EQ suggestions. I don't think Schiit would go down that path. EQ is still quite taboo in this hobby. Plus it is not fidelity enhancing really.

My alternative theory is a proprietary error correcting usb system. Currently USB audio has no ability to resend lost packets. A proprietary USB transfer scheme could add error correction abilities.

How about going with a unit that has eSATA connection - much faster than USB, currently even faster than USB 3.0, even though USB 3.0 will probably be the wave of the future - or having eSATA upgrades to current units. hehe - this thread is getting quite entertaining!

The problem is hardly anyone has eSata ports!

I gotta admit I simply cannot think of a device that will be game changing, that is still digital. Maybe schiit is coming out with tidal 2.0.

Yeah I'm having a hard time guessing any good possibility.

Any type of DSP system including EQ goes against their philosophy of preserving the original samples.

It's an Autotune Karaoke doohickey that makes your own voice sound like Schiit.

Yeah, but this isn't a DAC, and thus the philosophy may not be applicable.

An R2R ADC that avoids Moffat's hated D-S modulation?

I think Jason's list of "things it is not" includes ADC.

Listeners would have to re-buy their music due to the new masterings. Probably not the route they want to go into right now considering that they're advertising that you don't have to re-buy all your music with their MB dacs.

a device between the headphone and amplifier that shows the headphones having a flat impedance?
