NY SBAF Meet January 14, 2018

Due to space constraints I was not really planning on bringing anything. However, below is the list of gear I could bring. If anyone is interested in any of the following items, I would be happy to bring with me. Just let me know.

I had thought that she would want nothing to do with a headphone meet, but to my surprise my girlfriend wants to attend now. Would there be enough space for one more person? There's a good chance she wouldn't stay for the entire thing.

 

This will be my first meet so a couple of questions

1) Do y'all normally box your gear up if you're taking a car over or do you just leave it at bubble wrap and making sure it can't move about? I've never actually driven with mine so ubering over will be new.

2) Do you normally tube roll amps or stick to one set? I'm going to bring my Stratus with the Shuguang Treasure 2A3s, GEC U52, and Cryoset 6N1P but I have some more rectifiers/driver tubes around and could bring extras. Also wouldn't mind hearing other 2A3s in the Stratus since I've only ever heard the Shuguangs.

EDIT: Also curious about the girlfriend question - I'm not sure but my gf might want to attend if a +1 is possible.

 

I can bring a Saga with new prod tung sols.

Would probably be fine, but @Boops has a better idea of how much space there actually is. I expect that people are gonna come in at staggered times as well.

2. I'd say stick with your favorite tubes and then tube roll later on during the meet if you want.


What time is everyone planning to attend anyways? I'll be getting there early.

 

Here’s the deal on space:

The conference room where all the gear will be set up is not huge. I haven’t measured but considering the table is about 9’ x 3’, the room is probably something like 18’ x 12’ at the most. Table accommodates eight seated people, and probably 5-6 setups depending on how efficiently we stack things. There is some standing room around the table but not lots.

Immediately outside the conference room, there is a gathering area with two sofas. Anyone not in the conference room can obviously chill there, but it’s a common area for the building so not a place we can claim for additional gear tables. I will put some coffee out there on a small side table and some snacks but you’ll have to make your way into the conference room for any listening that isn’t on a portable setup you can keep with you.

Our conference room happens to share a wall with an identical conference room right next door that would be awesome to use as a second setup spot, but I have not been able to get permission to use it from the building so we will just have to press our faces to the glass and dream about what might have been.

This will be the first meet we’re having at my office so I’m honestly not sure what the ideal number of people is. It is probably going to be tight for 16 people but if people are thoughtful about not monopolizing gear, then I’m confident we can make it work. Especially seeing that people tend to come and go at staggered times. If we run into problems, we will have to form alliances and vote people off of the island ;-)

I say all this not to discourage anyone from bringing a plus one — it’s fine with me — just want to be clear about what to expect.

 

It'll devolve into a Lord of the Flies situation a couple of hours in, as we start killing each other off to get into the conference room. Last man standing gets to claim all the gear for himself.

Same question. I had indicated interest, but I forgot to confirm. I don't have to bring anything, but would like to see everybody. Missed the last few meets.

Sure. If I may just add one person, @WhimsicalStranger may be my +1 if you guys remember him. I don't expect to do much listening in the conference after the first few hours, so you guys can have at it.

Pretty amazed we're gonna have more attendees this time compared to the last one in November when we had a huge office space.

 

We've got 4 DACs based on the list in the first post, one being Yggdrasil, so I think we are covered unless anyone feels like we need a second one.

Also, a heads up for those bringing gear: the conference room is down a flight of stairs from the building lobby. If you need help carrying things, there should be plenty of available hands.

@thegunner100 sure let's add one more. Anyone else has to fight a designated champion to prove they are worthy.

 

In light of the tight space, do we want to try to coordinate to avoid duplicate gear. I understand that people will be there at different times and that headphones don't necessarily take up that much marginal space as opposed to amps and DACs, but I see a few HD650s and a few LCD-2cs (although in the latter case checking for consistency might be valuable). Just a thought.

Also, @Boops do you still have your LCD-3. If so, can you bring those as it might be a nice comparison to the LCD-2C among others.

Coin mod (also have unmodded foams), spider removal, 1 layer of circular foam stuck on, dynamat.

That reminds me, I have a bunch of leftover dynamat that I'll bring for anyone to take with them in case anyone is thinking of either doing any of the HD650 mods or anything else.
