And why the f that it has 1/8 inch termination? Are they driving this with Dragoncrap Black or something?

no, I think k4rstar is referring to the quality of the paint in the mock up photos, which does look a little inconsistent, but those are mock-ups. I have faith it won't be chip-city.

Yes, exactly but just terminated in 3.5mm instead of 1/4 inch

They say why on the product page. It is to promote wider usage among 1/8 jack devices. For comparison, the HD600 has always come with a cable that is 1/8 with a VERY slick 1/4 adapter. I'm most bummed that the HD6XX doesn't have the same plug+adapter as the HD600.

But... blue? It's blue. WTF, it's blue??. And defaulting to the wrong plug size. This is a disappointment. But the price is right.

    Edit: Blue?! <shakes head>

I think they look horrible. That tint of blue looks like black paint that faded. Makes it look cheap. BUT, if the rumored price holds, a fantastic deal, and a good service to the headphone community.

The driver matching will probably not be great, since its meh on every Senn product except HD650 and HD800....

Kinda hard to say.. it does look similar, in the pictures.. but the HD600 cable looks similar, and is slightly less robust. If you're worried, the stock HD650 cable is available really cheaply, though.

Alternatively, there are really good aftermarket cables available, from the sensibly priced to the audiobling levels. Have a look at the Venus Audio stuff on ebay, for inexpensive options. Personally, I'm a big fan of Forza Audioworks, if you don't feel like making your own- they make some pretty cables at fair prices.

Made in Ireland. I think that is nice.

Edit: Sennheiser 2-year warranty is unexpected from Massdrop.

Edit: Looks like the metal flake is gone.

Actually the paint job looks pretty solid.

It just lacks the luster of the original model.

MD has the color right in their photos. My lighting is really bad

Now that the real cat is out of the back I guess I can talk...

Thanks for the cable @Ice-man that was a very good purchase.

I asked my wife which pair she liked better and she mentioned that she liked the sound of my modded pair and the look of the sparkly gray.
The thing is that the MD pair is unmodded but still sounds a little different than I remember from stock which is why I can't wait to see some measurements.

I could have totally forgotten how a stock pair sounds.

for 199 though these are still the real deal 650 and right after I see measurements I will mod my pair.

No one is shitting on anything... yet. I just think the paint choice is questionable, and the stock photos don't help that effect. I like the kitchen top look of the HD600 as much as the next guy, but a lighter shade of black like most people expected a la K7xx would have made more sense here, especially since there are 650 drivers inside.

Mmm, not many portable amplifiers do the 650 justice. The Mojo's failure to drive mine properly (despite fevered promises of awesomeness from Head-Fiers) made me get a desktop amp :)

Now now, they will match our 600 just fine...

And this is using the 650 drivers. Sorry, don't understand why it wouldn't be great.

I'm saddened it isn't based off the 600 rather than the 650. 650 has a tad too much midbass for me... I don't particularly like the midbass of the 600 to begin with anything other than 70's-80's pop/rock/metal, so adding more is too much of a bad thing, even if the upper mids aren't as shouty as the 600.

    This is awesome!

    If I didn't have my HD600s I would buy this in a heart beat. It's a no-brainer.

I may buy it for my wife, or so I would like to tell myself.

Oh portable amplifiers....like m9xx, Mojo, Hugo, WA8 Eclipse? That ain't portable, at all. Mojo and m9xx can't even drive HD650 efficiently anyway.

Look. call me when a thumb-sized portable amp is able to drive HD650, then we can have a nice talk

I prefer the 600's tonality too but I think this was a better choice. Larger price difference from the original model is what most non-audiophile Massdrop customers will care about, which makes $200 possible at volume.
