sorry, SORRY, I get emotional about audio and im in love with HD600. Maybe veiled wasn't really the best word, sorry. It still has the details, so it's just colored and not transparent. Laid back? Overdamped? Things and stuff?
I've been listening to the ksc75 for like half an hour, is this what u guyz call veiled? Legit, is it? Like when all the plankton is totally gone even though everything else actually is kinda fine? When the flute is clearly there (microdetail), but it's spacial ques and inner detail are gone?
Sorry. And I'm not even Canadian.
HD6XX is a valuable product worth a lot to many as it has very special sound which i can't appreciate, just like others don't get that excited by HD600, but love their HD650. Which is weird to me, but everyone is different, I try to get that. (Hell, some can't stand the sennheiser bass and praise audeze) (hey, I can tell ya, LCD-X ain't bad, not sure about the value of it though)
Guyyyz, sometimes I'm too forward and all unfiltered delta-sigma in my thoughts and i kind of stream them in these posts, I know. I really am trying to be constructive. I love you all, sorry for the long posts.

^ The impressions are appreciated, and I think your imagery is novel, but I think it might be easier on the forum (and its members) if you took the time to whittle your thoughts down into more manageable chunks.

Hell, I have the exact same problem as you with my stream-of-consciousness, conversationalist typing style, but I've tried making an effort to trim my word count a bit and, on the whole, I think it's been for the better.

Also, I could take the HD6XX off your hands if it's garbage to you. For science (and mods)! :p

    Nah, KSC75 is HD600 (complete with 3k bump); it's the PortaPro that's the 650.

    :p

I just picked up HD6XX. I regret selling my HD650; really miss its sound. But im not going to mod it for now.

Im thinking of getting a dekoni pads, just like my HD800sdr. Any input in which dekoni pads are the best for HD6XX? Im thinking of the fenerated sheepskin.

Also, i want to get a new cable. I read that cardas works nicely. Any recommendation? I prefer to get it from massdrop. Makes my life easier.

    Thanks

I would just buy a stock HD650 cable. I am was a Cardas user myself and tried the older headphone cable (Smurf cable in my application, but supposedly the same as the newer grey Cross cable). It was a downgrade from stock in my opinion. I did like the Clear Light, however, but would say just to stick with stock unless you need a balanced cable. Better uses of hundreds of dollars.

Agreed. The Clear Light is a lot more expensive than stock HD650 cable. Not really worth it. But I do have reservation too. Is stock HD650 cable really better than stock HD6XX cable?

HD6XX cable is six feet long and terminated with a 1/8" plug. HD650 cable is 10 feet long and terminated with a 1/4" plug. I don't know if it's the same wire inside, but seems like most people didn't like the HD6XX cable because it's short and the termination choice makes no sense.

    FYI: I haven't used the HD6XX. Just HD650 and HD600.

Apologize, I should have been more precise. I have no problem with the length and termination. Just wondering if stock HD650 cable is better sonically.

You might have the best iteration of the HD650.

I tried the fenn'ed sheepskin and the hybrid elite. Both were very comfy when broken in but made the sound a little too dark with HD650. However, they brought the best out of HD600 (fenn'ed sheep edged out the hybrids by a bit). It increased bass and made it slam harder and tighter, as well as relaxed some of the upper mids on HD600 while simultaneously "sharpening" the treble slightly.

A new HD650 cable is only $11, it's worth buying one and comparing it with the HD6XX cable just to satisfy your own curiosity.

I have both, and with my combination of modest gear and rando hearing, can't tell an audible difference. I'm therefore unlikely to worry about expensive/fancy cables in the future. And more importantly I have a cable that's long enough to use in my living room.

I also could not hear a difference. I have both a 650 and 6XX cable of which I've reterminated the 6XX cable to balanced. Biggest gains I had was from modding the headphone. I recommend the KISS mod explained here if you want to get started. I can't understate how positive this change was to my headphone. I reach for my 6XX before anything else when it comes to listening after a long day at work or otherwise.

The primary reason to go to the HD650 cable is length. IIRC, it's 4 feet longer than the HD6XX cable.

Then i will stick with HD6XX stock cable. I dont need balanced cable since i wont be using balanced amp anytime soon. But if I do, it is really a great idea to just buy and re-terminate HD650 cable. Thanks a lot.

By the way, i think i might be one of the few who prefer HD6XX's look than HD650. Love this dark look. Fresher.

I compared THD graph between HD650 and HD6XX, it seems HD6XX is better than stock 650, was this caused by test deviation?

Test deviation. In terms of distortion, the best was a HD650 circa 2014-15. This sample showed behavior not typical of normal sample and test variability - much lower D3.

I pay shit all attention to THD unless it gets into multiple percent. Saying "headphone X is better than headphone y because it had 0.5% less THD" is meaningless.

I just got in on the drop, using a pair of 600's with sheepskin fenestrated pads. Always wanted to try 650's this price is hard to beat.
