FWIW, the focus pads seemed to accentuate the peak and ringing at 5kHz while also causing bass rolloff below 20Hz on the measurement rig. It was a tiny bit flatter though.

The mods look interesting and I wonder how the bluetack mod could translate to other headphones?

Basically any headphone out there is going to have gaps where the cups/housing meet or where the cups/housing meet the drivers. I'm not sure what the effects could be, but this is similar to more securly mounting the speaker driver to the baffle, and that almost always translates to some kind of improvement.

Anyone think of using a caulk gun rather than blutack? Seems it would be easier to use & safer to remove if you don't like it (caulk can peel off easy).

Do you really think you can position a bead of caulk more accurately than a thin piece of blutack? Nevermind that the caulk needs to cure and could be a horrible horrible mess before that.

You could try something like plumber's putty. It's far less sticky than bluetack.

Blutack mod and grill/fibre removal done. Large audible changes each time - and both for the better.

Vegan pad w/ craft felt mod tomorrow. (Waiting until my amp gets here to do the vegan pads so that I can decide whether or not to cut off the back.)

What amp are you pairing them with?

Just a Marantz PM7001 integrated amp, nothing fancy. (A trickle down design from the SM-11S1 - not overly warm, nice and clear sounding, good transients. Great value if you can find one in great condition with low use for $300 or less).

Going to run it off of speaker outs with my Gungnir Multibit. Also, got impatient so this happened. (Thanks @ohhgourami for the great template and instructions!)

Looks great! I love how the purple hue shows up in pictures, it's so unique looking.

@ohhgourami, did you remove the large (compared to hifiman's) plastic ring from the vegan pads before installing them?

FWIW, I kept the Audeze rings and I used the adhesive to stick them to the Hifiman mounting rings and clip the Vegans on like any other pad. Removing the rings and sticking the pads directly to the headphone is completely unnecessary. With the way I have mine attached, the seal is still way tight. I can hear the drivers flexing with little movement on my head and they don't move around at all.

There is a chance the Hifiman tabs will loosen up over time and I will no longer have as good of a seal but I've had zero issues so far.

There's also the acoustics of the plastic rings to consider. Not necessarily good to have those in there.

Wait what? My vegans did not come with any ring what so ever, just the pads and the double sided sticky tape.

It's tucked into the lip of the pleather where you would apply the double sided tape.

NM, I'm dumb, it's there. I was imagine a more visible ring like the hifiman one and I could not recall seeing that in my package.

Interesting, could you post some pictures? Also, I removed the rings and forgot which side of the ring (one is smooth and another is rough) is supposed to face the driver, could you check? Thanks.

Acoustic variance of the rings should be negligible based on their location with respect to your ear and the driver. This is the first I've heard of someone commenting on Hifiman rings affecting sound. Only thing I can think of is that the extra ring may add more space for your ear chamber based on the ring thickness (silly to consider this as the pads are squishy).

I don't have a picture but all I did was stick the adhesive on the "smooth" side and stuck on a Hifiman ring such that it's concentric. Then I put the big ring back into the pad and the Hifiman ring tabs stick out from the flaps.

@ohhgourami, the link to your felt-mod template no longer opens. Any chance you, or someone with access to it, could re-upload the template at your convenience? Thanks very much!
