Nope. When the word already ends with an 's', you should use ', hence HD800S' in the present case.

That's for the possessive form. For nouns ending in an "s", you add "es" to make it plural.
    • more than one gas = gases
    • more than one bus = buses
    • more than one kiss = kisses
    • more than one Jones = Joneses
    • more than one HD800S = HD800Ses
    It looks pretty stupid though.

OK... we need to stop while we haven't fallen to far behind. Maybe wait until the HD800S comes out before more discussion. :p

So no one here thinks that the "Ring Resonator" that the HD800 uses is just a bad idea that "Dumbs down"
dynamic contrasts (on recordings that contain them) for the sake of emphasizing individual parts of the music ?

I lose interest in recorded music that doesn't present itself in a "You are there" listening perspective. I hate having my choice of to "mentally scale" the music playing as an event for the sake of listening to "parts" of what was played ! I guess you can guess how I feel about "studio recordings" or musical instrumentation lacking recognizable natural transients.

The HD800's driver is definitely greater without the sum of the other parts included in the headphone. I honestly don't! see where "adding" any parts is going to overcome it's seriously flawed "Voicing" nonsense. "Kow Towing" to the mediocrity of popular music recording techniques does not make a superior headphone.

The "S" stands for "Same old (safe) Sennheiser Characteristics" if you ask me.

Why don't you give us some example of headphones and earphones that do things right for you?

No, it's supposed to reduce the offending standing waves that are present in the default enclosure. The driver behaves much differently when outside that enclosure.

Good for you, though there is a growing amount of music that simply can't exist outside of their source electronic equipment workflow. Good luck hunting for good quality records of good acoustic music, it's a dying breed.

You are right that the driver is possibly greater in performance than the sum of all parts. Every headphone is flawed, the HD800 has a good voicing albeit with a few defects addressable by mods, the trade off is possibly the shelf-life of the materials vs effectiveness against acoustic defects.

I knew almost immediately that I shouldn't have posed my feelings about the HD800 as a question to how others found it, as I'm aware that my findings are definitely of the minority opinion.

Maybe I've been mislabeling what my $4k of line conditioning & my HE6 & other headphones tell me is "headphone generated sound" that I'm hearing & is masking inner detail (that I am able to hear on the HE6) as being caused by the resonatiting of the protective screens back through the rings for the frequency contouring that is obliterating the lesser transients in dynamically dense musical passsages.. I tend to think that this "is" what is happening, as once the screens are gone all that wonderful scoring the Composer wrote into the piece is "night & day" more evident in the music.

Yes, i'm aware that a lot of music can't exist beyond whatever limited dynamics exist in the music. As I mentioned , this music isn't my cup of Tea & hasn't been for quite some time. As far as luck in finding good quality records of good acoustic music , Having been a music collector for longer than I've been a high end equipment user , I have several hundred Orchestral recordings that only sound more detailed when I listen to them through my "semi- genre" specific voiced equipment choices.

You were spot on about one thing though ! It is very good for me, that I decided to adjust these headphones to suit my needs. I never mean to imply anything more than what can be done ! (If you are willing to take the steps (or risks) to change what you have )

"Come on people now...Smile on your brother. Everybody get together, try to love one another right now" (For the life of me, I can't remember how well recorded that album was ) (Do any "Non Cheesy" Nick Drake recordings exist ?)
