Have an opportunity to get the RE-600 for cheap, searched here and Changstar and there doesn't seem to be anything regarding these IEMs, any opinions by people who listened/owned these?

A little dark overall, with a peak in the treble, iirc. I have a feeling Fang thinks that's what people want, because the mediocre re-1000 had a different take on that same sort of sound, albeit bassier.

    I'd pass.

Thanks, what would be the closest sound-sig equivalent in a full-sized headphone, in your opinion?

Oppo PM-1, probably. Brown sugar like sweet mids and smooth highs. Definitely great if you give crooners a frequent spin.

IMO, they are quite dynamic sounding with a withdrawn upper mids and treble, that is why they sounds a little dark. Bass is very good quality and extends quite deep, treble is quite smooth and extension is decent.

I returned them and got another RE-400 instead. The little brother sounds much more coherent to me (and is a GREAT bargain).
Like others have said, the RE-600 has muted upper mids and treble, which makes the sound boring, IMO.

Hopefully the RE600v2 improved in this department. I'm not sure if the cable is the only difference with the older model o_O
