His mods seem easily reversible, and the PM2 is easy to open and work around in, so long as you are careful with the screws.

@Maxx134 If you'd ever be curious, you could send your modded PM2 to me for measurements and impressions. I'd be happy to let you borrow my modded pair for comparison after as well.

I will let @Maxx134 comment on reversibility, but my understanding from our conversation was that it would be difficult to get back to bone stock form. I am not a modder so cannot really comment myself.

    Haha that would sound fun.
Yes we can PM a swap sometime after next week minimeet.
    :)

Thu only issue about reversal is that the large black felt was used for cutting circles, so you would need replace that large piece with a substitute..

    Edit:
I switched to the leather pads.(testing)
    Result was less soundstage,
A bit too forward, and more bass slam .

    Edit:
Leathers are best for stock PM2.

Velours on a stock PM2 is spacious but dull.

Stock PM2 will always be somewhat flat, dull and lifeless to me, yet having great accuracy and realism. .

Switched back to the velour for modded PM2,
as the mod was tuned for it.
The best description I could say for my mod is musical and alive.
    :)
It is not really like other versions.

bought a PM2 just to try your mod :)
I have very good memories about my PMX2 experience when I had the chance to listen to them so if I can enjoy 80% of this sound for usd700 less I will be happy!
Thank you for sharing your experience!

    After a few months ,
Its time to reflect and put things into perspective. ..

    Just to clarify,
This is not a PMx2 replacement mod.

    This mod is just musical,
and so saves the dead PM1/2 from me throwing it at the wall in disgust.. (!)

Yes I owned both the PM1&2 and they are still utterly dead and not worthy in stock form.

    But thanks only to Alex,
I heard what the PM1/2 is capable of,
In the form of the PMx2.

When hearing it for the first time my jaw dropped.

So if you put both my lush PM2 and his resolute PMx2 side by side in front of me,
    I WILL grab his PMx2. .

I will pick the more precise headphone over my lush musical one.
    Why?

It is my preference, because I have a modded HD800 and modded HEK both showing a greater level of transparency,
So I would need the PMx2 to get closer to them than my own.

For portable usage, the Oppo is almost unbeatable, with onky the HEX giving it a run.
But both my version and the PMx2 will crush the HEX, IMHO.

    Yet for critical home listening,

I personally prefer to have the most revealing headphone possible.
And so far, that means HD800, Code-X, and HEK.

But for portable none can touch these Oppo.

These are just my thoughts, and no one has influenced them.
I just like to tell it like it is sometimes.

Which leather did you try -- the original PM-1 leather, or the alt PM-2 leather that was later given to original PM-1 owners and meant to replicate PM-2 sound albeit with leather rather than pleather.

    They were PM1 leather pads,
Very nice but I went back to velours.

Hey guys, as you may know I have a habit of buying, selling, and regretting..
So these headphones have been put up for sale at the"big head" site.
They will be sold to fund a jotenheim for my HEK.
So point is I will no longer have these.
I don't like to have so many headphones lying around as it reminds me of all the money I spent! Lol

    :)

and guess who has now your set? I bought them from the guy you sold them before.
I'm very pleased with your PM-2, very nice bold sound with plenty of subbass, nice mids and smooth treble. Soundstaging is good for a planar, even if they don't touch my Edition X V2. They seem to be more difficult to drive than stock, I guess sensitivity drops a bit with damping.
I'll try to send them to Sorrodje if he wants to measure them, might be fun to get the results on paper of what your did with your ears :)

Haha that's nice to know a SBAF member has them.

I kinda miss them at times.
Great bass & and lush mids.

I am only keeping two home cans,
    And two portables.

The PM2 fit somewhere in between and was most versatile using for both.

I agree the new HEX V2 & HEK V2 are great cans, but for home usage mostly.

I recently had Problems with both Audeze Sine and HifiMan Edition "S" portables breaking on me.
    Both having headband failure issues.

The OPPO in contrast, is great quality construction.

    Cheers
