Going to keep this succinct. The M24 are decent for what they are. Definitely a BIG step up from the $50 to $100 Logitech computer speakers. Not quite as neutral as 5" pro monitors from JBL, Mackie, etc. Also lacks dynamics because of its smaller 4" driver.

    Here are some highlights:

    1. Imaging localization precision is eerily good, not surprising given the narrow baffle and dome tweeter.
    2. Full featured with with wireless remote (makes turning on / off and adjusting volume a snap).
    3. In addition to RCA analog inputs, includes a built-in USB DAC. There is also an optical digital input.
    4. Fairly compact size. Pro 5" monitors are gigantic in comparison.
    5. Includes rubber stands to angle and lift speakers up from the desk surface.
    Here are the negatives:
    1. Buzzing when volume is set a moderate levels, even via USB input.
    2. Kind of slow, soft, and sluggish sounding. Not as crisp as I would like it.
    3. Not quite as neutral as the pro monitors. Despite on-axis FR looking decent, there seems to be some lower mid emphasis and boominess. I might play with the bass settting via the remote, but I prefer the baffle step / 2,1,0.5pi radiation correction switches of pro gear because it makes everything five times easier. Also bass boost or cut not not be able fix this. I could also move the M24s farther away from the back wall, but this makes no sense for a consumer oriented monitor.
    4. Measures down to 50Hz, but it sure doesn't sound that it has that much bass extension.
Here is the setup and how it was measured for the listening position measurement:

Here is the 1/2 octave RTA for this:

Here is another RTA with the speakers not toed in so much. Maybe 10 degrees off from pointing at the microphone.

Frequency Response (pseudo anechoic, 18" away on-axis level with tweeter, 1/3 octave smoothing)

Compare with JBL LSR30X here (with bass and treble trim positions):

Stuff on the back. All of the controls and connectivity is on the left speaker. The right speaker (not pictured) just has a pair of binding posts on the back.

Is that a phono pre built in too?

Oh yeah, I guess I forgot about the phono pre. Should come in handy with all the Numark tables I see around these days.

How do you think they would fare as a 2.0 TV system?

My concern with TV and similar use is their built in baffle step compensation which seems to be a tad too much. This makes any kind of close placement to the wall have an Audeze LCD FR effect, which while may be pleasurable for music, may not necessarily be so with voices, which constitute most of TV and film sound.

I prefer TV sound to err on being mid-centric rather than on shelving down everything higher than 1kHz. I also dislike boomy male voices, unless it's intentional, e.g. Darth Vader or Optimus Prime (even then, if you listen carefully, their voices are not that boomy).

Thanks. Sets with tone controls should come in handy like the Edifier series, I reckon.

Well, the M24 does have bass and treble tone controls. Let me play with them and report back. However the bass tone control will be useless if range doesn't also effect the mids, that is the bass adjust also functions as a baffle step adjustment.

The sucky thing is that the bass tone control is set via two buttons on the remote. So there is knob to eyeball. There is no indicator where the bass level is set. I hate non physical ST:TNG-like UIs - you guys already know this.

I feel good about the $220 crowdfunding price. They also look nice.

Not the best, not the most neutral, but even at $300, a good deal because no volume control and no DAC required. Volume control, amp, DAC are all included.

This might be a better performer if placed away from the walls. Will try on the ground for my outdoor projector / backyard movies.

Sub out is a nice touch.

Smart money is probably on using the optical input rather than USB. I should review my £6 ebay DAC which does USB to SPDIF/TOSLINK, for machines which have only USB.

The buzzing is no bueno. I'll have to see wtf is causing that.

So, if I say, had a home office with a big desk in the middle of the room and I wanted some modest, attractive, active monitors and plan on using the sub out, this would be a good choice?

Interesting that peachtree released a 5.25” woofer version for MSRP 399 (these apparently MSRP for 349). At both of those price points I’d be looking at the vanatoo.

Once @purr1n returns these to me I can tell you my take. Also, I can see if the buzzing is a one off thing and they’ll do a warranty swap.

That being said, if he wants to keep them he can :).
