I find that with most breeds...there are certain stereotypes that show up in different degrees, but they all have individual personalities. My wife has always loved Pomeranians, and the 3 that we've had also had a wide range of personalities. I have know little ankle biting dogs (Poms, Chihuahua and others) but just as many if not more mellow friendly pups. How you raise them and their individual personas make a big difference. (IMO)

@Soups lol, so true about admitting the love for the Chi's. I do get some funny looks, and some random comments about being a big guy with a lil dog. Usually, most unoriginal non funny comments.

@Jinxy245 couldn't agree more about how you raise your pups. My lil Betty, she was in a long foster home prior to us for a few years. She was returned home several times, before us adopting her successfully. She's extreme fearful and distrusting of people in general, especially men. She warned up to me fairly quickly, but I do nothing but giver her tons of love and positive reinforcement. She definitely is more loyal to my girl, but she has warmed up to me significantly.

We stay in touch with her foster family, like I said they had her for 2 or 3 years. In that time, the lady said she never warmed up to her husband. So, as sad as that is, it definitely makes me feel so good that she loves me. We also posted a cute video of her playing with a little ball, and the foster mom was in shock, as she had never seen her play with toys like that.

Giving an innocent animal a loving home is such a rewarding experience. Especially one that has faults (although not her fault), shortcomings, illness, etc. It's very easy to raise a pup that knows nothing, but rescuing an abused or neglected animal, and earning their love and trust is really one of the best experiences and feelings I've ever had. I used to always buy puppies, but after my recent experiences, I will always rescue. There are so many dogs that need homes out there, it's heartbreaking.

We were lucky with our Chiweenie too. At first, I felt guilty about "rescuing" a puppy, but again, foster mom said it's just as good. Believe it or not, a lot of niave people adopt puppies and don't have full knowledge of what they are getting into. They see an adorable lil puppy and don't comprehend how difficult raising a puppy can be. People actually return them after weeks, months, or even after a year. Really sad. Our Chiweenie, Zelda, her mom was hit by a car. Her foster mom had her and her siblings from. 4 weeks on. She had to bottle feed them every few hours until they were able to eat.

Zelda's sister is coming by this weekend and we are puppy sitting, so pretty happy for that. They see each other often and play together well. That foster mom is my girls friend, that's why they get to chill together.

One more pic of my lil. Betty girl. Her tongue always sticks out due to her dental issues. 20180730_215355.jpg

Sorry, one more. We had a weekend getaway at a pet friendly hotel and snapped some cute pics of them. 20180630_235952.jpg

Forgot about this, found Zelda's baby tooth last night, it was on my shirt, and she was trying to eat it. Lol

My sister's Chihuahua bullies my Doberman. The amount of attitude in such a small package is crazy.

Adopting a rescue is the best (IMO), I totally agree. Unless you need a dog bred for a specific purpose (farm work etc.), there are just too many dogs in need of homes out there to justify it for me.

I also agree that puppies are much more work than most people realize. I've found that doggy 'adolescents' are the best bet for my needs, but there's a lot to be said for older dogs as well.

just to keep it on 'topic' I'll throw in another pic or two of the newest... DSC_3565-1.jpg DSC_3575-1.jpg

We decided to put one of my kitties down today. She gad a good run of about 17 years, but had some autoimmune thing going on. Effected her mouth the most. Attacked the gums, but the teeth were healthy so we couldn't pull them (and wouldn't chance anesthesia with an old cat anyway). She was in too much pain ans wasn't eating. It's kinda selfish to play God like that, but we kinda played God with the whole domestication thing anyway.

@Jinxy245 , sorry to hear. But indeed, 17 years is a good run.

@Jinxy245 - Our condolences! My wife is a vet and guessed it was stomatitis, which sucks. Sure she enjoyed her 17 years with you!

Damn bro, so sorry for your loss. I feel your pain, not even kidding, my eyes are watering up. Pet loss is real, and it f'ing hurts. My sister, her house caught fire the other night, they were home. Every one was ok, except their dog, who unfortunately didn't make it. So sad. True tragedy. Again, @Jinxy245 so sorry for your loss bro. Time heals everything, but losing a pet, is always a painful, miserable experience.

^^+1 to that. My old boy Jack left almost two years ago. Not a week goes by that I don't think about him...something funny he used to do or something that endeared him to me. He was sick for almost a year and it was time. Hard though...very.

After we adopted my Mom's dog, he passed after a few months. God damn... It hurt. A lot. First, he was my mom's dog, so he was a huge link. Secondly, he was such a great lil guy. We loved him dearly. First dog my girl and I really had and enjoyed together. It really crushed us both. I cried for weeks, and even now, I look at pics of him and I get so very sad. This will sound so fucked up, but when he passed it was worse than when I lost either of my grandmother's, both who passed when I was an adult. One actually lived with me, so it's not like I didn't know her. Fucked up or no?

Not fucked. Had a close friend, not old, pass recently and have been asking myself for over a month why it hurts so much more than the others I have lost. Finally realized that I am lucky. So far the only people who I was extremely close to, and have passed before, are grandparents. I did and do love them but I think it’s built into us to expect them to go first. Only way I can explain it. Pet people, and I am one, tend to see their pets as children/wards to some degree. I mean they mature for their species, but we are always the protector/provider. It hurts. Personally every time I have lost one I feel like I let them down in some way. Doesn’t matter that I intellectually know their lifespans are short. Shit, feel guilty about my friend but I had nothing to do with it.

Sorry about your loss Jinxy. Probably never forget, just remember she made your life better and you did the same for her.
