There's no reason a single tab should ever be using up 2.6 GB of RAM unless it's something like a storage site caching a big file or some kind of real time interactive thing. Even a tenth of that on one tab would be a lot for a normal forum site such as SBAF.

I'm not a web developer, but it does seem like the OP is actually experience some issues with the site. Maybe there are bugs in a sponsor ad or something else is leaking memory like crazy. I've seen miner malware hijack sites and gobble up ram, but those will also load up on the CPU and should go away if OP disables unauthorized plugins and JS.

Could be an ad. I need to get rid of one of the ad companies: sovrn.

Just as an exercise, I logged out (so I'm LESS than a rando, cuz at least a rando should be logged in) and browsed around through the many pages of the image-heavy measurements section. And yah, ads are where they are supposed to be.

OP, reinstall your Mac. You may have incurred the wrath of an ad somewhere that's tracking you down specifically. It's definitely not a Mac-specific problem. It's more a problem specific to you.

I used to run into this same issue with the SBAF site every week or so last year, requiring me to restart my safari to resolve, but it seems to have gone away by itself.

Edit: on an IMac5K or whatever it’s called.

    What's an MBP?

(I'm worried now, in case I accidentally spend $3500+ on one)

Considering what some guys spend for one of those, $3500+ isn't that bad.

Couple weeks ago I had a tab eat up 15 gigs of ram on Firefox. Probably my fault since i enabled all the experimental features i could find. Linux performance was a bit meh with FF but now scrolling is smoother so it's worth it.

Oh, Firefox! Firefox takes all the principles of Linux memory management, dating back to Great-Granddaddy-Unix days, and subverts them somehow.

Well it only happend once. Chrome is not much better, modern browsers are resource hogs. Usually it's a couple of gigs which is no problem.

I'm a Rando and I have no issues on my end. Both on my Google Pixel and laptops/desktops, RAM looks good and ads aren't that bad.

If youre the only one out of everyone in the thread having issues its probably not the website. Have you tried clearing your cache/using incognito mode (right click Chrome icon in your tray --> Open new window in Incognito)?

Just mentioned this because I likely see the same ads any other rando sees but don't see a spike in RAM usage.

I think he meant in the common sense department. As in you appear to have some and some others do not, lol.
