For the Volumio and moode the SD card is updated whenever you make changes to the configuration.

Raspian has a built in SD card copier app, not sure if MOode includes that in their ISO or not as I have never used it.

To make a copy of a pi disk, on a mac I used to use terminal per this
On a windows pc, I use win32 disk imager. Its pretty straightforward to use, and there are lots of tutorials out there

I use a Mac but don’t know how to use terminal unfortunately. Maybe BelenaEtcher can do it? I’ll have to try.

I'd try applePi-Baker I haven't used it, but have heard of it and it looks straightforward with good instructions.

I would use Etcher to restore, but piBaker will do that too.

I, like @rhythmdevils, am having a problem with a Pi2AES suddenly no longer working—happened last night—wifi is still working, it shows up in browser, and as a connect option in both Tidal and Spotify, but no sound.

Reached out to @Michael Kelly who told me to email support, which I did, but I was wondering if there were any fast fixes that members have done in the past to get their PiHATs up-and-re-running quickly? Getting tired of Schiit's gen2 USB already lol.

I had to re-flash the memory card with MOode to get mine to work again. And the version of MOode that was currently available was not working so I had to go through my download folder and flash an older version. Whatever OS you're using, you might have a corrupted card and have to re-flash it. I'm going to hopefully make duplicates of my Pi2AES cards for this reason so if one gets corrupted I can just swap it out. SD cards are cheap

I asked this here before but didn't get a complete answer.

I'm trying to use a Pi2AES and MoOde to output USB audio to a Hydra Z with ZPM that I found for a good deal and a good friend said it sounded better than the Pi2AES so I thought I'd try it.

But I don't know how to get usb audio out of the Pi2AES. someone said that if I plugged it in, it would show up in the list of outputs (where Hifidigiberry+ Pro is) but it didnt't. The settings say to set it for "none" if using usb audio, but the Pi2AES wouldn't play music set to none. Maybe I needed to restart my Samsung S10e runing bubbleupnp. I don't know.

I've got a Pi2AES with the 5v mod and Sigma11 LPS -> Intona USB 3 isolator -> Hydra Z w/ ZPM. Woluld be cool to get moar resolution out of the Yggdrasil!

    @Metro any ideas? :)

When I swap from hifi dingle berry pro I have to reboot. If I set it to none and reboot then I can select schiit bifrost 2 unison audio. Also you won't be using the HAT if you're using USB.

Yeah I rebooted the Pi2AES/pi but it still didn't show Hydra Z in the menu. I now it won't be using the HAT and the ALLO Digi One Signature would probably be better for this application, but one step at a time. I'm not looking forward to setting up another streamer it took me so long to get the Pi2AES working.

Sorry no help here then but that's what I had to do when swapping to USB. I wanted to try unison but I get a lot of bad noises when I use usb when switching tracks and stuff so I never got past that. Never had those noises when using a PC and Jriver.

You have to make sure that moode is set to output USB audio... I can check where the setting is when I get in front of my moode rpi later today

@rhythmdevils ... I must have been remembering my ropiee based devices that have a specific "USB audio" radio box.

In Moode, it appears that you need to set "Named I2S device" and "or DT overlay" to "None" to enable USBaudio. One caveaut is that I'm running Moode v8.1.2 dated 7/8/2022, which is probably pretty old (I try not to update if nothing is "broken")... if you're running something newer, then things may be different.
    ------edit------
and you are correct... you are not using the pi2aes if you are using USB. There is no way to use both with moode, it's one or the other.

    thank you!

Yes I know I’m not using the Pi2AES but it’s hooked up to a Sigma 11 LPS with the 5V mod and running through an Intona USB 3.0 isolator before going to the Hydra Z so I’m doubtful anything else would be better and it’s already setup. At least I feel like I want to test the Hydra Z before buying a new streamer.

I want to create backups of my MOode SD cards in case they get corrupted, all I have to do is copy one from my backup, I won't have to go through all the settings again. Can Belena Ethcer flash an SD card from a disk image created in Disk Utility on a Mac from my configured MOode SD card? Or how should I save it to my computer so I can flash that file to a new SD card?

    Thanks

I've used Etcher on a mac, should be fine.
I recommend making a backup, then burning to a spare SD and test and make sure it works.
It sucks if you wait until you need the backup, and then find that it doesn't work

I have also used Etcher to copy images. You should be good.

So Etcher will copy a .DMG file and flash it to an SD card so it's an exact copy of the original? I guess I need to try it, but I'd like to know and it's good public knowledge because SD cards are cheap but time is expensive setting up everything again.

My usual method would be to use the Terminal, get the disk device number from Disk Utility and copy the disk itself to a file. Mac OS will need you to be root to do that, so for example `sudo cp /dev/disk4 sdcard.img`. That assumes you're comfortable with the terminal, which may not be the case, and will result in a file the full size of the card regardless of how much space you use on the disk. But it can be burned straight back to the same size card which makes it convenient. I prefer to use cp in these cases rather than dd.

If you're not comfortable with using the Terminal, Disk Utility can create an image as well but you'll need to have it show all devices, not just mountable volumes. By default it will probably only show the boot partition on the SD card and not the data partition where all the software and your settings are saved. Under the View menu choose Show All Devices. You can then choose the SD card itself instead of the partitions (will probably show with the name of the SD reader, mine says Apple SDXC Reader Media).

Once you've selected the SD card itself rather than a single partition, you can choose File->New Image->Image from Name of Media. Choose DVD/CD master from the Format drop down so it copies the raw disk, and you'll end up with the exact same file as the Terminal example. It'll have a .cdr extension and Etcher may whine about that not being supported so just rename it to have a .img extension (e.g. sdcard.img). You should be able to write that to a new SD card of the same size (or probably larger) with Etcher at that point.

In some ways this is slower than just rebuilding a new card from the original image and copying over the configuration data, because if you have a 32 gig card you'll be writing that full 32 gigs back and forth every time, rather than a smaller burn and an on-device drive resizing. With RoPieee I find it a lot easier to just rebuild from scratch if I need to than do this process because of that.

If you do either method test your backup before you need it.
