I find that most reviews of audio components are very polite and reviewers are afraid to spell things out in an honest way. There are various reasons for this, they do not want to compromise future goodwill, they do not want to offend anyone and a bad review may have an impact on advertising revenue. Ok, so how can you dig in and extract the information from between the lines?

I came across this comment about an amplifier in the review of another amplifier:
"The 150wpc valve amp painted itself as an inefficient time/phase-confused multi-way with heavy drivers still stuck in first gear if not reverse."
    http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews2/bakoon5/3.html

It is not that hard to figure out what 150wpc amp he is talking about.

Sometimes I find the most honest reviews of audio components when they are mentioned, as a comparison, in a review that is about something else. It is worth looking for that kind of comment.

That describes most Luxman amps I have heard.
