And here's why. Very interesting watch for me, interesting info like the fact that vast majority of top billboard songs are written by only 2 men, etc. Could be common knoweledge, what do I know, I live under a rock.

    What happened to rock music?

... @rhythmdevils' thread. I think there are valid answers in that video. I also think it is flawed. There has always been mass-produced pop, and, whilst some of it managed to achieve some charm (more in 1963 than in 2000? But people then would have said more in 1943 than in 1963), a lot of it was little short of jingles. The gulf between pop and "progressive rock" might have been as big as the gulf between contemporary and classical.

It is amazing to know how few people wrote oh-so-many hits, but the fifties and sixties also had (albeit a few more) their prolific and successful songwriters. And I once proposed a theory: that tune in your head you don't know the name of but it's classical? Mozart or Beethoven.

@Ardacer migth live under a rock, but there is one respect in which I certainly do live under one. Even when using a portable device, I listen to my music, from my collection, made over the years. I sometimes use, eg Youtube, as a source, but I have never used any streaming service. Alien technology to me. The world of their effect on listeners is also alien.
