Recomendation for Stax SR009S headphones/earspeakers

Good evening all,

I have a set of the above headphones with a stax SRM-700T amplifier.

I have been led to believe Stax amps arent the best so looking for something special.

I am considering the Headamp BHSE, Linear Tube Audio Z10E, Audiovalave Solaris, Woo WES..

These are wonderful headphones, hell I would love to get a Woo WEE and connect them to that and then the output of my Feliks Envy but I believe thats not the best way to go.

Any insights are appreciated,happy listening...

I used to have a Woo WEE. It typically connects to the output of a speaker amp, so I'm not sure if the Feliks would have enough juice. I'm not saying the WEE is bad, but you need to take into account (and budget) for the extra component to power it.

 

Stax isn't a super hot topic around here, but I've rolled a few stax amps and have a few headphones on hand.

There was some discussion about the WEE with the Stax Mafia, you may want to read into that a bit. I believe the SRM-700T is a rebrand of the SRM-007, which is an OK amp (I owned one for a bit). IMO running a Stax SRD-7 PRO off of speaker taps from a good amp sounded better than any Stax amp I heard.

There's lots of older comparisons between the Woo GES/WES and the BHSE. The blue hawaii is the gold standard for Stax tube amps.

 

At that sort of price range, I'd be looking at Eksonic. Kerry is a legit designer/builder and his modernised T2 builds are beyond insane, both in engineering and price. His new Aeras looks like a very interesting prospect, using high performing modern parts, at a much more sensible price point. All the other designs listed are quite dated now.

The Feliks envy has an output of up to 8 watts so I have written to them to see if it can power a IFI PRO IESL,which is another option to consider.I would love to be able to use my feliks ENVY with Stax headphones...https://ifi-audio.com/products/pro-iesl/. BHSE and Z10e are pricy so see if there are other viable options first.

 

Hi all, I got the IFI PRO IESL and connected it to the ENVY via the balanced output..........WOW..............I am really shocked and impressed,I can say its far better that the Stax amp.....highly recommended.

 

Did you find one on the used market? They've been tough to get since they've been discontinued.
