    An older violinist asked.

She also said some other iems didn't fit well, so user friendly would be good.

I was thinking hifiman re-400s? Poor build quality was a concern there, maybe that's not an issue now?

    I don't know, I've gone higher-fi mostly, so I'm out-of-touch. Jeez, I haven't heard any etymotics in a long while, maybe those?

    Thanks in advance.

I used RE400 a couple of hours a day for a year without a problem. Fit is very comfortable, but isolation is subpar. I "modulor modded” mine, putting a tiny piece of soft felt between the yellow foam inside the housing and the stock damper.

But if she's likely to be harder on IEMs, a used ER4S / ER4PT + S adapter would be a better choice. Bear in mind that the shirt clip is pretty much mandatory. Fit is fine with Comply P-series, and isolation is very good. If she goes that route, I can send you some orange dampers to reduce fatigue.

Also, make sure that whatever she gets isn't too sensitive for her source.

    Are they bassy?

Would the shure215s be reasonable for classical?

I was thinking for classical violin, etymotics hf5/hf3.

    HF5 could be good.

update! I gave her a choice between the re-400 and hf5. She went with the re-400 and used them to listen to things that she'd have to play later, just to get an idea. She was pretty happy with them, so a success all around!

Great that worked out. Johnny come lately, but for anyone else out there:

Apple after market dual ba iems. (Not buds / the old buds either. The after market iems)

I know. Apple?? But I switch to them for classical, and they perform. Great detail. Highs without sibliance. Anything with bass - look elsewhere :)

    Also VSD5.....but slightly sibliant
