Oh he's superb, plenty of excellent and accessible albums. Waltz for Debbie, Portrait in Jazz and Sunday at the Village Vanguard are well known classics of his, but plenty more to delve into if you find yourself liking his style.

@pedalhead Cheers, thank you very much for looking, I appreciate it. I'm not torn up about it as I have US and UK originals ;)

Hopefully will catch one when they start selling them online on the 29th

lol you're most welcome, although I feel a little less sad now that I know you have two original pressings!!! :)

Listening to the RSD Thelonious Monk release at the moment. Fantastic stuff, very good quality recording and wonderful music. It was a bit of a punt at the price having never heard it, but the whole package (includes a large format 48-page booklet) is excellent. Highly recommended for jazz fans if you can find it. Gratuitous glamour shot...

@pedalhead - very much agreed, the Monk record sounds great. I'm also pleased with the Robert Johnson record, but can't compare it from memory to other versions (note: all versions have hiss, etc.).

Doors '67, Grateful Dead '66, Son House at Oberlin, Vangelis Blade Runner, Chimera leave something to be desired. Maybe I'm being too hard on the live albums.

I make the same mistake every RSD, buying blind and thinking/hoping the mastering will be better...

I don't have a record player but I bought some CD's from both my local record store and Murfie in celebration of RSD. :)

@Ziva good to hear you're enjoying the Monk box too. Shame about the others...I haven't unwrapped my Chimera, not expecting much from it now!

TBH, its not that the Chimera is bad, it just lacks a certain richness. The tracks vary a bit in quality. I've been spoiled by discogs and some good recordings.

@bazelio nice haul! Iron & Wine, Procol Harum were both on my "if I had another £100 to spend" list, as was that Neil Young release which is already getting good press on the Hoffman forum.

Only picked up the Neil Young album at my trip. I only had limited funds so that was it for RSD. I did see the U2 picture disc, Robert Johnson album, the Rush single, the Springsteen live set and others which I don't remember. I'm somewhat annoyed at the pricing for these things, so I usually go used. Not exactly a fan of the current issues plaguing the vinyl business right now.

This my haul. The one I missed was the Iron & Wine, I thought it was a 7" and could't find it. I hit up 1-2-3-4 GO! Records in Oakland and they had *plenty* of everything. It helps when you are like #10 i line though.

Wow, great selection, and I'm envious of that Wes Montgomery. I asked the 1st shop owner today about that one and he said it would have been a US import and cost almost as much as the Monk box so he opted not to order any. Enjoy!

For those that do not already know, bull moose is a great online resource for RSD items after the fact. (For people in the USA, anyway. I don't know about international shipping...) They don't jack up prices and customer service is second to none, IME.

    From http://www.bullmoose.com/c/13546/record-store-day-2017
    Online sales
Extra copies of RSD items will go on sale on www.bullmoose.com at 10am April 24. Our site will slow down because the entire internet will show up. For faster check out, log in between 9:45 and 9:55am.

also got way more than intended and had to force myself not to get Jaco and other cool stuff:

Thelonious Monk - Les Liaisons Dangereues
Bill Evans - Another Time: Hilverson Convert
Dexter Gordon - Walk the Blues
Montgomery & Wynton Kelly Trio - Smokin'
    Robert Johnson - Centennial Collection
Dave Matthews - Live at Red Rocks '95
    Neil Young - Decade

Celebrated by putting together the aluminum structure of my audio rack, and the maple shelves sitting in the garage with some stain on em.

Just listening to this now. The mix sounds a bit less muddy than my digital version, although that f'ing cow bell in the opening track is even more in your face now lol.

FWIW, I tried this morning and titles I looked at still say "in store only." I suppose that means they sold out. Or some user error on my part.

I've just had a listen, and suffice it to say, I like what I hear and now need to track down some more of his recordings. I'm not an expert at critical listening, but it certainly got my foot tapping a lot.

So @pedalhead already mentioned a couple of these up at the top of the page, but here's some of my favorite Bill Evans recordings:
Note that I just did a quick search on Amazon to provide links for the content and didn't really pay attention to the format or the particular master. With the exception of the Top of the Gate set, I think I've got multiple masters of each of these on both CD and LP and couldn't tell you off the top of my head which is best. I really need to pick up the Hilverson Concert for myself.
