Hopefully the controller has a lot of life left in it. That's still the best control pad ever released.

I read that the Retro-Bit homage has gotten better but the d-pad is still not the same quality.

Or their shoulder buttons...Retro-Bit did better job on Megadrive controllers than the Saturn.

I don't know, it's so clean that I don't want to touch it lol I might just use it with my action replay with Pseudo Saturn on it. I already have a model 2 with a Mode in it but I'm thinking of using the white saturn now and putting the Mode in the dreamcast.

@YMO I remember you mentioning it before and then I saw it during this stream and it made me laugh.

@Elysian the controller feels almost brand new. The entire thing just doesn't look used at all. The Saturn retro-bit controller is disappointing. Their mega drive/genesis 6 button controller though is excellent.

OSSC can be amazing if you have a TV that can accept the signal. At 5X mode it's beautiful. Has a lot of tinkering options but I've only used the "generic" settings. It's a great device. If you want more affordable plug and play options Retro-Tink are great.

Thanks for the feedback on the Retro-Bit @YMO and @Melvillian. I read really good reviews on Amazon about Retro-Bit's Mega Drive controller but that the Saturn controller still is not there yet.

Is there an authentic SNES USB controller available? I was tracking 8BitDo but it doesn't seem like they've nailed it either.

You can retrofit an 8bitdo pcb into a genuine vintage controller

If you have a SNES classic controller you can buy a raphnet adapter that converts it to USB.

I have a $10 buffalo super famicom controller I bought a long time ago that works really well. I just checked and they’re very expensive on amazon now. If you can find one for cheap they’re pretty good

Has anyone tried the retrotink 2x scart with the Saturn? I keep getting flashing color bars then nothing. Works perfectly with the ossc so not sure what the problem is. Also, if anyone has the N64 UltraHdmi was able to dial in some settings using the MCable to output in 1440p. I'll post those settings later. Would post pics but for some reason I can't post any pictures, even with external links.

Thread needs more retro PC gaming.

This was the first real RPG (I don't count Rogue) I beat as a kid and I remember getting shivers when I first fired it up:

Hot damn, am I the only one who remembers mapping out a game world meticulously on graph paper?

Nope! My first PC game was great for map-making:

Alright nerds, I know one of you is going to pre-order this when it is available:

    https://www.analogue.co/duo/

Even if I think MISTer is the better value here......

Edit: Now we know that PCE stuff will be playable on their Analogue Pocket device. Perhaps the Pocket core can do so much crap....

@YMO: What are good PCE games? I liked Dracula X, Gate of Thunder, and Lords of Thunder, but a lot of the titles in the NEC library didn't grab me. The redbook soundtrack for Ys III was also much better than the Genesis and SNES versions.

@zerodeefex: I always had to keep graph paper around for games like Legend of Kyrandia 1 and King's Quest V and VI. I think there was a fair number of Sierra Online and Westwood adventure games that were impossible without making maps. I didn't encounter that with the Lucasarts adventure games (Loom, Indiana Jones and Monkey Island series, Sam & Max) but they were so much easier than Sierra Online games except for Day of the Tentacle which was too difficult for me to complete.

I think my first true RPG was Might and Magic III: Isles of Terra on the Mac. The Mac version had much better graphics than its PC counterpart.

I also loved the SSI Gold Box series, especially the Dragonlance games.

I think I was too young when text adventures were a thing. Played some on the school computer and by the time we had a computer at my house I was playing shareware like Wolfenstein, doom, and Hexen and later RTS games like command and conquer and Warcraft.

@YMO that analogue PC Engine is relatively cheap compared to other FPGA devices (excluding the MiSter). I think the more exciting news is the analogue pocket pc engine core.

I’ve been playing 16bit shoot em ups lately and they’re a lot of fun. Thought I’d give the Saturn shoot em ups a try and it’s been pretty disappointing. They’re slow and boring bullet hell shooters. Just not for me.

Here's some of my recommendations for PCE:

Ai Chou Aniki (for strong hot steaming men action, two player support and good music)
Asuka 120 Maxima Burning Fest (other versions available on 32-bit consoles)
    Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire
    Kaze Kiri - Ninja Action
    L-Dis
Mad Stalker - Full Metal Force (but I do prefer the PS1 remake over this one)
    Nexzr
    Psychic Storm
    Rayxanber 3
Seirei Senshi Spriggan (avoid the sequel and the SNES game)
    Star Parodia
Steam Heart's (for your softcore action)
    Ys I & II
The Star Solder Series (Super Star Soldier, Final Soldier, Soldier Blade)
The Bonk games on PC Engine Hucard (not the CD variants)
    Air Zonk
    Coryoon
    Override
    Military Madness
    Gunhed/Blazing Lazers

Yes it is cheaper, but we don't know what cores it will support when the "jailbreak" FW is released. I still think MISTer is a better deal because while the hardware full spec is more, it will support so much more cores over what the Analogue PCE will support. Plus, MISTer cores are always in development.

To be honest, I really like the Analogue PCE and I'm considering getting one. I'll wait for the "jailbreaks" and see what it can really do.

For Saturn STGs I recommend Metal Black, Blast Wind, Hyperduel, Game Paradise, Kingdom Grandprix, Rayforce, Batsugun if you are too lazy to emulate it, same for Darius Gaiden, and the Konami gaming packs.

Racketboy list is pretty good, but I'll never recommend Radiant Silvergun since I don't like it. Genesis and SNES FPGA is just about perfect on the Analogue devices, and per others the MISTer.

I wanted to step into the world of retro gaming with my childhood console the Nintendo 64. Recently picked up a analog to digital upscaler(retro think 2x mini).

So on the left I have the stock cable that was included, it did the job but just recently I picked up a custom N64 cable. This cable has a much better fit, I would have issues with no signal time to time when I would move my console.

RetroAcess makes some fine cables at very reasonable prices, they have many SCART cables compatible with your console.

Not sure if this is the right place for this but just recently saw two very impressive remakes of old games.

    NES Castlevania (Doom 3D remake):

Recently picked up what is supposedly the final run of the Analogue Nt Mini. It was looking like I would setup MiSTer but I saw an alert for this and the stock market has been kind to me lately.

What's odd to me is that they did a total overhaul of the system last year for something they announced they were not making again

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CCLyeuAlAcn/?igshid=1obnjcr2jrgf7

Why would you go through all this effort if you don't plan on making more? It leads me to believe that they will eventually release a much cheaper version of the Nt Mini inline with the Super Nt and Mega Sg.

I still bought this fully expecting a cheaper release in the future. Assuming that this is a pretty collectible console and I could always sell it for nearly what I bought it for if I really wanted to.

Current smartphones have the power to run emulators, but touchscreens for controllers is major meh and Bluetooth is also major meh on input lag.

    I got this big boi:

    20210718_202739.jpg

Running this on the Xperia 1 smartphone, and the 21:9 aspect ratio is a pain to find something that will fit for it. Enter new version of the Gamesir X2 with the D-Pad. Pricey, but not having to deal with Bluetooth while playing Dreamcast stuff is great. Uses the Switch layout on the controller, so you will have to adjust button inputs on games/emulators since on Android the default layout is XBox. D-Pad is super solid, not the best but very very servable. With the wide phone on the X2, it doesn't feel really heavy. Feels great.

And now we can play it on our smartphones like Dolphin Blue.
