    Gregory Isaacs - Night Nurse

One of my favorite Reggae albums. Combines elements of soul with reggae. Simple songs but really beautiful vocals and melodies. Really soothing and smooth. Night Nurse is such a great song. He's got many great albums, but this one is my favorite.

    sound quality is great

Big Red Machine - How Long Do You Think It's Gonna Last?

This is an album that a lot of people probably know, but it's so good and some won't know of it. It's a collaboration between Bon Iver and Bryce Denser of The National. With Anais Mitchel singing on many tracks. Its such gorgeous music.

Foik-rock pop music if you need a genre, But it's quite unique. One thing is that there are no guitar chords throughout songs like most folk-rock music. There is guitar work, but it's more flourishes in the background of some songs. The songs are defined mostly by piano or sometimes just really interesting percussion work with interesting, unique intricate rhythms. The songwriting is really good and so are the lyrics.

Beautiful music, and absolutely gorgeous recording quality. Don't miss this one!

I listened to this while working from home yesterday and it was the perfect vibe. Going to have to get this on CD for the library.

I'd somehow never heard a Gregory Isaacs album and am only familiar with his name, because his music is shouted out in "Ms. Fat Booty" by Mos Def (incidentally, one of the best story songs in hip hop).

A very interesting electronic fused album of rock based songs (I need a name for this genre- electronic sound, but rock based songs with vocals). Really beautiful sound to the album with lots of intricate, delicate layers and instruments like I think a harp sparkling in the background sometimes. Lots of little flourishes of different sounds. Really good songwriting. The drumming is totally unique, almost tribal like with unique textures not just a drum set. The vocals are kind of soul R&B like in their soft rhythmic way of adding to the mix.

This album is a real treat on good speakers/headphones.

    My pleasure.
On to DARKSIDE, I like the new album, but prefer the first, Psychic.
    https://tidal.com/browse/album/22830538

Nicolas Jaar is the electronic guru of that duo and his solo album Nymphs is a standout for me. It's a collection of the Nymphs series of singles he released over the span of a year. You can hear the influences in the DARKSIDE albums.

If you only have time for one track I recommend "The Three Sides of Audrey and Why She's All Alone Now"

    Now I'm done butting in.

Jaimie Branch - Fly or Die live

This is pretty well known, but worth posting in case you don’t know it.

It’s politically activist free-ish jazz. It’s so good. As she screams about the racists coming for you at the top of her lungs, then moves to the brass, it’s as if the instrument becomes her screaming voice. Sometimes politically activist music can be too direct but this is just so well done. Rather profound and hits pretty deep. The music alone is just really good too. Some amazing bass solos and percussion work, all the instrumentation is excellent.

Sound quality is outstanding for a live performance.

I'm not that into this genre but I can tell it's good for what it is ,and worth mentioning for variety sake. It's sort of hip-hop-jazz-reggae-afro-beat mash up. Hip hop beats and reggaeton sort of rapping and some groovy horns and beats. sound quality is great. Minimal vocals, mostly just funky hip hop grooves with horns.

This is an incredibly peaceful, slow album of solo piano recorded so you can hear the mechanical movements of the piano like the pedals and the keys being pressed down. A couple songs add solo violin. The notes are sparse, spaced out, letting the sound of the piano mechanics fill the empty spaces between notes.

In the background is very quiet synthesizers playing long, sustained notes, field recordings of wind and the occasional bird chirping, but all very quiet.

It’s really uplifting in tone and melody. Listening to this album takes you up into the clouds where nothing exists but beautiful rain swept clean air. It’s one of my favorite albums to listen to first thing in the morning.

I am not usually keen on this sort of close-micing-sounds stuff, but here, it works, as part of the whole, not an intrusion on it.

Overall, perhaps not my kind of music, but it's nice. Giving it a listen.

EDIT: it gets better as it goes :)

    Yorkston/Thorne/Khan - Navarasa : Nine Emotions

This album, on paper, is the worst idea I've ever heard of. A Scottish Folk singer, an English Bass player and an Indian Sarangii player (a traditional bowed Indian string instrument). They play a mashup of traditional Indian music and Scottish folk music. Terrible right? But no, they somehow not only pull it off, it's gorgeous. They even trade off singing between Yorkston in English and Khan in Hindi. In the same damn songs! It's a miracle this isn't cheesy. But in fact it's quite profound and like I said, gorgeous.

Interesting, floating bass lines that are prominent in the recording and hold it all down, light piano sometimes, the Sarangii comes in and out with Indian rhythms and melodies even as Yorkston sings. And acoustic guitar keeping English rhythms mixed in.

I would say the mashup winds up being 70% Indian influenced and 30% Scottish/English because the presence of the Saranji always playing Indian melodies takes over.

Sound Quality is really good. Check this one out.

Genre bending bluesy folk acoustic jazz infused prog rock influenced noodling instrumentals. Guitar and bass and drums are center with other instruments and sounds circling around. Quite a unique and interesting listen. Sound quality is outstanding.

I'm totally obsessed with a specific kind of metal that has no screaming, has great vocals that are not hushed like a lot of "stoner rock" where they I guess can't sing so they kind of mutter into the mic and then mix it way down so you can barely hear it, and a lot of what I like is blues based ala Black Sabbath. in fact most of the metal I like is in that same vein, which these days with all the super hard core metal out there migh be more aptly described as metal/hard rock or blues metal.

I spend the majority of my music searching time looking for more good albums like this. There's a lot of crap and it takes a lot of sifting through but when I find a good one, it's sooo good. I can't get enough of well recorded screaming distorted electric guitar (that is also good music)

Below is an example, but I'll post more in time.

This album is hard to really call metal because it's very melodic, no screaming, clearly written songs, heavily blues based. i think it technically falls into that category if we have to put it in one. If you like Black Sabbath's early albums you should check this out. I like it so much i haven't even heard their second album yet and they're currently working on a third! Awesome stuff.

Great percussion with smashing cymbals that are clean and shining, great guitar and bass riffs and excellent song crafting. Awwesome vocals that are not hushed in the background like so many "stoner rock" albums where you wonder if it's really just done because they can't sing. The singer in this band has a great voice, and an interesting accent too as they're from Austria but sing in English. They don't have a big following and since i can''t see them live and their albums are on Tidal I wrote them a note on Instagram for their paypal address and I send them some beer money from time to time. i wish I could do that with more bands. Just send them money directly, no middle man, no merchandise, just listen to their music and send them money. i guess bandcamp is close to that...

SQ is most excellent, it has a crystal clear sound to it with lots of good layering.

Do you know Requiem in White and/or Mors Syphilitica? It‘s not metal but I always felt that American Goth Rock is more rock than goth.

Super groovy French music. This shit is so awesome! I wish this was a full LP album. It's just 2 songs, but so worth listening to both tracks. Really solid groove on both tracks, great percussion, and the French language is really fun to hear on top of the groove. I want more French music.

I'm definitely going to be following this band in hopes of a proper album but it looks like the kind of thing that may be a one off.
