Good point, but I say we go further and stabilize the self-esteem market by subsidizing fake leaks for needy members in order to maintain a healthy per capita rate of ego inflation.

A question.. How does one attach this into powered monitors in a smart way with an hp amp connected (which uses the the RCA outs at the back)?

I don't want to have my Lyr powered all the time. I have heating in my apartment already :)

Most powered monitors have balanced inputs so you would use the XLR outputs to those and the RCA outputs to Lyr for headphone use. You would have to power each on and off separately as they are both considered line outputs and are active at the same time.

The built in head amp is very good though when you want an alternative to Lyr. The other benefit of using the head amp is plugging headphones in by default will mute the line outputs.

Yeah, my monitors (Adam A7) have balanced XLR inputs. I was browsing through the ADI-2 manual to find how to switch between the two outputs at the back, no luck - I guess I'll just get some balanced cables and keep the Lyr off when just using the monitors. That is IF I really a need the Lyr for anything.

But, I still have the problem that my left Adam has a broken power button, cannot really shut it off... It's pretty much on all the time as is (shutdown is done by an on/off AC switch)

    Thanks for the help!

    This.

Plug the monitor with the working power pot into the Master plug. Plug the broken monitor into one of the "eco" plugs. When the good monitor powers on or off, the other one will too.

That link doesn't work here in EU country, sounds interesting though.

Edit: Maybe I'll just get a separate on/off switchable power splitter (don't know what one is called in english) for the monitors. Like the one I have now, but just for them.

That one shows just fine, the previous one said "The Model Number you requested is not available in your country" for very obvious reasons.

I might just have solved the problem after your suggestions (getting an extra power divider (?) just for the monitors with an on/off switch). Thanks!

And sorry about the noise

Havn't got the manual at hand, but you can save up to five different settings. It should be possible to save one setting RCA out active and one setting XLR out active, or?

Tried @Koth Ganesh 's RME Adi2-dac yesterday in our Chennai micro-meet. This dac is epic. That along with @uniqusrname built Sapphire amp stole the show. With 800s the combo sounded extremely detailed, fast, realistically wide and had amazing dynamics. There was almost 0 hint of DS-ness in the combo. Now Koth has to figure out what to do with his Gungnir Multibit (Gen 2) which in my opinion sounded too wide and unrealistic (but paired well with the BW).
Sadly, Yggdrasil wasn't available yesterday to do a RME vs Yggdrasil shootout.

I received the DAC monday and tried it a few hours with my LCD-2 using its own amp. Too soon to make any bold claims about SQ, but I didn't find anything wrong with it. Extended use is necessary, as always. Next in line is HD600 through it and comparing its amp-section to the Lyr 2.

One thing I can already say is I love how this thing functions, lots of thought and good engineering went into the design. For an example the bass and treble knobs right at your fingertips are marvellous to have when listening to thin/harsh mixes or when tired. And this thing is small, esp when considering all it does.

Excuse my non-sound noise, but... Isn't this thing cute! The size took me aback completely. I guess I was thinking something closer to full-size hifi or rack. And the display is gorgeous.

OK, ok.. I'll get my coat...

How does the RME unit compare to the Grungnir DS (or the Bifrost Uber/DS) soundwise?
I have the Bifrost Uber right now and compared to the Modi Multibit I find it a bit sterile, analytical and lacking resolution (using @purrins comments on resolution). The Multibit just sounds more real.
I need to decide if I take a step up in DS-land or if I have to leave DS-land.

Hmmmm, I haven't heard Gungnir or Bifrost DS but did own Gungnir Multibit and Modi Multibit.

I would actually say with Sharp filter, the RME is pretty close in tone to the Modi Multibit (slight emphasis on mid bass and lower treble). Some would say it's more analog sounding but could be too rounded for others. Where they differ is layering and ambiance, where Modi Multibit has more layers front to back and the room feels more alive. This is the Multibit magic. Where ADI-2 beats the Modi Multibit is a blacker background and a more laid back presentation. Stage is placed further away from you and layering is less obvious.

I would take the cleaner sounding RME over the Modi Multibit but would take a Gungnir Multibit over the RME.

EDIT: The above statement is comparing DAC to DAC, not including other features of RME, which for me, push it in my favor.
