I don't wanna give the smucks at M QSmuck A any more of my gold. This is why I went Qobuz. Qobuz don't BS you. No need for MQA in 2021, we aren't on dial up. Dumb post this may be with a lot of short sentences, but in your heart you know I am right.

FYI: This is not directed at anyone

How many streaming services does one need to subscribe to? Just support artists by buying directly from them or Bandcamp. Spotify is for scouting music. Qobuz is great for Roon integration and high rez, I guess. Streaming sucks for most artists.

I only subscribed to Qobuz (with some buying on Qubuz as well), and tons of random junk I keep putting on my Wishlist to buy later on Bandcamp (which I do buy). Need to find more jazz stuff to buy on there, picked up a few stuff. Good stuff.

But.....tons of people who are "audiophiles" still avoid Bandcamp. They don't like the indie stuff, or why it isn't on Roon. Aka Bandcamp isn't OAFAS/ORFAS compliant. I can jizz off on all the vaporware stuff I been getting as of late.

Completely agree. I focus on buying music locally/bandcamp/direct from artists and labels, with Qobuz as my backup streaming service. It kills me, but I did finally break down and add back Spotify family. Keeps my wife happy, it integrates with more stuff, and is fun for playlist collaboration. I avoid Spotify as much as feasibly possible though because they are basically a criminal organization relying on slave labor of artists with how little they compensate them.

Tbh, I'm not sure. I can't recall changing anything (or not changing anything). I do know that I logged into my Quboz account before I logged into my Tidal, within Roon, but I doubt that would affect much.

    Like you, I prefer Quboz.

I'll do a little investigation and try to report back.

100%, I don't understand why some basic features like browsing by letter isn't there like it is on Ipad.

Hope they still have a dark theme in the update. I dig me some dark and moody UI.

I have both, and even have Spotify as well (since a long time, before Tidal or Qobuz existed). Qobuz is my primary service and I've thought about dropping Tidal, but I occasionally come across an album on Tidal that is missing from Qobuz. Also the one-year Tidal subscription from Best Buy is such a good deal that I may as well keep going with it.

Oh yeah, I forgot they were doing Tidal one-year deals at Worst Buy. Me personally I had enough with seeing the MQA logo, the Universal Music Watermark issue, and at the time it cost more money to do Tidal than doing the $149.99 deal with Qobuz. I will admit thou, I'm paying Qobuz for the access through third-party apps (BubbleUPnp/Roon/USB Audio Player Pro). The Qobuz Mobile App and Windows PC App leaves some things to be desired for some.

Oddly, I find the Qobuz music store easier to navigate than the player app. And to add another opinion/voice, I too use Qobuz plus Roon to find new music, then purchase through Bandcamp, the artist's label, or through Qobuz music store. Last resort is amazon/discogs for physical media.

Oh I agree on the Music Store. It's sooo much better to find stuff than on the player app. The "articles" are a nice touch too (some are quite good, but others are trash like this one).

You guys have no idea how much I'm happy that Qobuz has a music store where you can buy just 16/44 stuff if you don't give a f**k about "hi-rez." Before Qobuz came to the US you either have to buy the CD or be forced to get a "hi-rez" version off HD Tracks. Most of the time the money difference between 16/44 and "hi-rez" is a big deal, so this is why I love the Qobuz music store.

When Qobuz was first integrated with roon, I signed up for a few months so I could compare to Tidal. I really really wanted to ditch Tidal, just to do my bit for MQA's early grave. Sadly the Qobuz catalogue for indie rock & electronic music just plain sucked compared to Tidal (based on my searches at the time). I should probably revisit it actually as that was a while ago, but tbh it wasn't even close.

Qobuz's catalog has certainly improved over time.

For electronic music (I don't know about indie rock) Quobuz's catalog has improved...but it still lags behind Tidal's to a significant degree. It might be "good enough" for many however.

edit: I am thinking that for myself it is almost to the point that I could do without Tidal, mostly because I would not know what I am missing...

Good to know Qobuz is getting better. Maybe I'll revisit it before 2021 is up to see how it's doing with lesser-known electronic music, because it didn't have much the last time I gave it a shot.

Oh crap, Roon 1.8 on tablets will support portrait view!

I frickin hate having to use my iPad in landscape mode. I actually bought a small 8” Samsung tablet last year thinking the app on a small tablet might be portrait instead of landscape (like on a phone) - no dice. So I returned the tablet. I don’t know why but I hate using it in landscape view (maybe becuase I’m so used to using it on my phone).

That plus no more horizontal scrolling of albums too.

    This is excellent.
