He’s just defending some bang for buck stuff he bought without wanting to admit that certain features of it are cheaped out. For everyone I know who kept a MOTU rig, there are others who sold it for sound, convenience, better drivers, and customer support who won’t give you the runaround.

Presonus is pretty indefensible though as far as gear goes.

You sound like snob that based your own opinions like they are facts. I bet half the stuff you said you never owned or used before in your life that drops non sense comments. I spoke facts of big name Producers in the music industry that used MOTU, Presonus interfaces. Its like you have biopolar as you say one thing and then turn around and say something totally different. I read a lot of your comments going back to page 43 and they start to drift off. One post is like you liked MOTU a lot and then you change up and bash their products. Then you say RME makes the best drivers in the world and then bash RME calling them lofi and say MOTU smacks RME. You are all over the place man as your post are hard to follow.

Like I said, if you don't have any real musical talent, you should find a different hobby or profession because obviously you seem to have a hard time. Its not my problem that there are more people successful than you that used Focusrite, Apollo, MOTU, Presonus interfaces that's made great sounding records. It's not the gear that you use its the person operating the equipment that has talent, that's a fact. So What's your problem? What's your point?

All of his post are trash talking that adds no real value and need to humble himself a bit and not be so closed minded. I bet he never made any hit records in his life to have that much bitterness. I mentioned Dr. Dre, Ron Fair and fails to acknowledge them using MOTU or Presonus interfaces that made big records with them. Like why is this even a discussion? So many big records have been recorded on all types of gear which proves its not the gear you use. Its your ability of what you got aka talent that knows how to utilize tools to create something magical. Timbaland is a talent Producer and he joked that he can make a beat out plastic cups and pencils, no drum machine.

@kasami08 Chill out man, there's no need for ad hominem attacks. I thought we're talking about gears here.

So you back a loser that trashes products on here? You guys are pathetic. This forum is full of a bunch snobs that offers no vaule. I though this page was cool until it turned into a trash talking post about which brand is better or inferior without any real world use. Just toilet trash talk is all I see. I can see why you guys never won any Grammys or will never be a platinum hit maker because all of you are very closed minded snobs that's very condescending that talks down. You all need to change your profession that waste time talking about some stupid converters when you should be more worried about is making music. Top Producers and Engineers aren't wasting their times in threads like these at war with either because they don't give a damn or careless what chip or compactiors is used. No real Pro guys gear based on what's in side it. They buy gear that they use as tools and based on their needs and requirements. I'm out. This website is a joke. The big purple site is much better than this one for sure. Bye!

MOTU and Mac always got along. Sometimes it would wig out if externally clocking. MOTU was not even Windows compatible until ASIO, which is open source. They do make good stuff. Some guys switched over to Metric Halo as they were the first with 16 inputs in a small box. And they have DSP on board. UA got popular for their DSP on board as well for everyone wanting virtual 1176's and LA-2A's. And now there is all this mic pre modeling.

Presonus is SO mid-fi. Barely pro gear. It is all I could afford starting out. Terrible drivers, noise, just overall bad build quality and QC issues. It was never overpriced gear, there is just better gear. I'd have Focusrite over PreSonus any day. The PreSonus stand alone mic preamps are not bad and the early interfaces used AKM chips, but still not the best parts or design inside.

Lavery is still the best D/A to me and them Apogee. A/D is good on both, but probably not the end all-be all.

I have not used many modern interfaces, so I would trust @Psalmanazar since he runs across them all. My next interface will probably be a MOTU.

seems like @kasami08 had a case of mistaken forum identity from the get go. Last I checked sbaf is not a music creators forum.

There might be a few folks here that dabble, but maybe he should be barking up the gear slutz tree (now pc aka gearspace, maybe that is the purple site he values).

We now return to the program already in progress; where known good stuff, opinion sharing and splitting of hairs are the topics of discussion

Well, sorry you got banned (I didn't do it).

I was going to say it's all about context. You have the understand the context of SBAF. It has nothing to do with hit records or Dr. Dre. And for the record, I love Dr. Dre's music, but most of it is pretty low-fi shit. Lots of amateurs love to record stuff and appreciate it hearing it for what it is for what they want to hear.

The best gear I've heard for music recording and production has been custom gear. For example, the best microphone pre I've heard is a custom Eddie Current / Moth tube based unit. It doesn't even sound tubey. It resolving and immediate sounding as f**k; and nothing with a brand name on it, unless it's $45,000, comes close. What @Psalmanazar does separate the wheat from the chaff - if you believe that most people have shit for ears (or do not care as long as you can get the beats going). These are his observations. Some find them helpful and worthy of consideration (there is never truth). Other's feel their penises shrink. You appear to be one of the latter.

For production, it’s always either custom stuff, modded out the wazoo stuff, or weird old stuff with unexpected uses. Always made by out there people for whom there was no “good enough.” There’s some good modern stuff made by weirdos but pretty much none of it has a famous brand name on the case. Even Rupert Neve had RND as the real current “Neve” stuff he was involved with versus AMS Neve who own his surname trademark and of course RND is cooler and mostly cheaper.

Most of the mic pres have been cloned to death. Some are as good, some are close and not as good. None of the clones can do the EQ and filters the same. Even the +48 can be dirty. But...alas....

I do find it interesting of the pro vs hi-fi markets. Both kind of want the same thing, and both kind of want different things. If it makes things sound too good, some of the pros get weary that they are missing something. Some hi-fiers prefer a more clinical sound. DAC's though, the high end stuff is pretty dang superb. They pay attention to all the little things in the right way.

PS - I used to work with a guy that made his own custom API clone mic preamps. He would wind his own transformers because off the shelf ones were not good enough.

Having fun with a BB PCM63 Dac. Really interesting compared to LiM.

Adcom GDA-600? I have always wondered about this DAC. Athough the reviews say it does not have all the PCM63 magic. You will have to let us know how the old TI BB chips compare to the new non-audio chips.

I would really love for someone with a Theta DS Pro Gen III or Gen V (dunno what happened to Gen. IV), but those had 4x PCM63's with the multicomboburrito.

Yes a GDA-600. Never heard another PCM63 so no clue! But did they ever hear it with a digiOneSig/PI2AES haha? I think it's raw, wide open sounding.

I have an Yggdrasil A2 + Dna Starlett which I have been using with an xlr->rca since the Starlett only has SE inputs and the Yggy2 needs to be used balanced for the best sound. I read that this can be troublesome, and end blowing up the gear.

Is this true ? if so, there's nothing to do besides using the worse SE from Yggdrasil?

Adcom GDA-600 gets OPA1656 treatment like ModiMB! Testing with classic OPA627BPs too.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn’t some of the Adcom stuff have Class A biasing circuitry for the op amps?

I think some of the “Adcom op amps were some LT variant

I just wonder how the 1656 would react to that Class A circuitry. Just watch their temp.
