    Don't worry about it too much. This stuff happens on the international level. I don't think Mark Chen was directly insulting Singapore as much as lamenting Taiwan's lack of recognition in the UN. But this did not go over well in Singapore. In retrospect, I think it's funny as hell because I understand the Hoklo / Hokkien language that Mark Chen used. He went crude native speak instead of Mandarin Chinese. Hard to explain. When Taiwanese go into crude native speak mode, it's always funny as hell. My dad would pull this shit off whenever my mom pissed him off.

    ROFL I need to hear this. Hokkien is the dominant dialect in Singapore too, which just makes it funnier.

    Also, that was definitely meant to be an insult, since the Singaporean government is probably the only other government in the world that would fully appreciate the meaning and feeling of that statement.

    I probably sound like some overly touchy SJW type who can't take no bantz with all the stuff that I said above, but just to be clear, I wasn't out to justify the response that he got or anything like that. I probably sounded like I was doing so, given I am Singaporean, and given that I personally know a hell of a lot of people who were pissed off at Ken, but for the large part I didn't really care about it beyond finding comedic value in the drama that ensued. I tend not to get too personally involved in this kind of stuff, beyond the surface level explanations to outsiders of course.
