Hello - If its not too late already I am going to pass on the Lyra II only loaner, Ive heard these in the last couple of months and probably dont need a second listen. Listening to the Dorado would be interesting, but if its easier to not get this item replaced and jsut sent out to me I would be very understanding. Sorry to hear about the DOA. @imackler

@JoshMorr - No problem. Just let @imackler know whether you want the Dorado once it's back to him from CA.

I've actually already asked Campfire to contact me regarding return address. I'll get them @JoshMorr's so that they'll forward it there.

Vegas departed on time and should be in @Clemmaster's hands (or ears, I guess), tomorrow.

Received the Vega in good shape.

This is much better than what I heard at the meet... Not as thick and bloomy down low.

I'm using the same type of tips as those used at the show (my Andros foam tips).

I thought that the 2 Vega pairs at the show sounded different - one of them being overly thick and bloated down low. Ken identified the problematic pair and was gonna re-measure it after the show. I didn't see any update after that.

This pair definitely don't exhibit such behavior. It's well controlled on the Vali2 + IEMatch (High) setup.

    I take it back.

With the right (wrong?) music, it's still super bassy. Gets tiring really quickly.

I found Vegas bass extension and weight to be similar to my SE846 (using unmodified blue filters) - which I offer up only as a point of reference. There are times when I'll flip the filters in the Shure's to the white ones just to back that off a bit as it can get to be a "bit much" with some music, especially if I'm tired.

Quality, articulation, in fact, raw detail and the ability to render actual notes, in Vega's bass does beat out the Shure's for me. As one example, in "Christine and the Queens'" track "Tilted", there's some tuneful bass-play about two and a half minutes in which the Vega portrays "notes" where the SE846 just makes "noise".

That, and the coherence of the overall presentation of the Vega, no doubt a function of it being a single driver design, were rather impressive. Not enough to make me want to go through the rigmarole of selling my SE846 and making up the price difference for the Vegas, but enough to make me wonder which way I would have gone had I had them both side by side when I originally bought the Shure's.

SFD-1 is on its way to @JoshMorr via FedEx. I got busy and didn't even have a chance to listen to it, didn't even get to open it actually! It's a shame but that's life.

Actually, using the foam tips and adding an acoustic filter (of my RE-400) to cover the bass port seems to do the trick! Bass doesn't sound overpowering anymore.

I'm the last on the list that I know of. Let me know if I should ship out to you or if someone is buying it.
