Maybe make the next run black? No silver option until the next next run.

be careful what you wish for:

The buy better gear light on the yggdrasil has been converted to MQA status light. If it blinks means MQA is activated ;)

I think schiit should make black the default and charge extra for silver color. Or just offer only black and ditch the silver color altogether.

The black Schiit really is a sight to behold. I wish they could go all-in and do a full color-scheme. Sell it as a limited edition and charge a premium for all I care. I'd be happy to pay my share of the cost for stocking two versions, materials, and added manufacturing procedures.

I want black on black on black... ...maybe deep black paint on the main piece and anodized/electroplated black on the sides. Or shit, maybe just anodize the whole thing and paint the base a slightly contrasted shade of black. I think the semi-matte brushed finish the silver ones have would look so clean in black. The screws should of course be black, too.

I'll take some shit for this, but matching or close to matching finish on the dials/switches - I personally don't like the stark two-tone look. It'd be classier if it was more low-key. Maybe a somewhat warm, textured black anodized look for them... ...or maybe a really dark and also warm, just the teeniest bit yellow-ish pewter gray with a tarnished/fogged-glass finish. Yeah... ...lets go with the fogged-glass. Low-contrast logoing - textured if anodized, shiny if painted. Slap in some red LED's and call it a day.

I like this idea. I know I would buy and am capable of installing the innards of my M2U, Vali 2, and Sys. Too easy. Plus, if someone wants black for their new device, you can charge them an upgrade fee to install it.

What's super-weird to me is that in spite of how much people seem to want black Schiit, nobody actually buys it, according to Jason... ...maybe because most already have it in silver...

I like the stack-box idea, too, though there's something really beautiful and elegant about a simple stack.

Having a limited run or intermittently available black isn't really measuring the true demand for it. Most people want their stack to match and don't necessarily buy both parts at the same time.

I would've bought my Gungnir Multibit and mjo2 in black if it were a standard option, but at the time I bought my mjo2 I wouldn't have bought black if one were available then, as I already had a silver Gungnir Multibit. Similarly, when I bought Gungnir Multibit even if a black one happened to be available then I probably wouldn't have bought it because I wouldn't be able to count on a black mjo2 being available later.

Aren't we a community of modders. Someone figure out how to paint the damn thing black and make a YouTube video.

I remember seeing someone at HF who managed to black anodize his Schiit. Pretty sweet looking, overall - shiny black. I do love the matte finish on the black powder coat though...

    Hey guys,

I know some of you like the black chassis, but it's never going to become a standard production option. Nor are we going to sell chassis alone. Nor are we going to offer a "ship it back to us for refinish" service.

    Why? Well, in order:

It'll never be a standard product because that dramatically increases the complexity of everything we do. Remember, we have 18 products right now. With black, we have now have 36. Add to this the anecdotal evidence of always having the color nobody wants, and add to this the additional anecdotal evidence of our first major black chassis notification (via head-fi, email, and press) selling slower than crap. No thanks.

We won't sell chassis alone, because we don't sell parts and we're not DIY. If it's not a complete product with a serial number, it doesn't leave the shop. Otherwise, who knows what bizarre stuff we might see back for service.

We won't be doing a "ship it back to refinish," because the labor and logistics involved in doing so would require significant additional staff--and it could easily cost as much as or more than the product, once shipping is factored in.

Sorry, but that's the way it is. We're going to simply continue concentrating on producing the highest-value products in the industry--in silver. From time to time, we'll have some black (when we get enough banged-up chassis to paint black). Those will be put on the site. If you really want them, camp out and wait. That's really all there is to it (and no, I'm afraid a mailing list when it's available probably won't happen, because: (a) It's gonna take significant time to set up real notification functionality for 18 products (soon to be more) based on actual inventory, and (b) You're gonna get irritated that it's 3, 6, 9, 18, or more months and there's still no black product of the specific type you wanted.

I understand if this doesn't work for you, and, if that's the case, there's plenty of other gear to choose from.

    Jason

As always thanks @schiit for clarifying. Honestly the comment doesn't just speak about the color it's how well the powder coating on all of the black Schiit gear is. I'll just have to sulk in a corner waiting. I was just thinking it would be nice to offer customers as an option for those who already bought their units in silver but if it's not viable for your business then I guess I'll play the waiting game.

    Thanks

    Nicholas

As a compromise to not selling the units in black, how about you sell us a guide on how to make it ourselves? Would require a lot less time and effort..

are these questions for real? You want them to take their valuable time to write you a guide on how to paint your unit?

How 'bout this........................... just sell off all your black stuff and replace it with silver stuff, |\/|

Of course not. If the man says it isn't viable to sell the black stuff then we just have to suffer.

just disassemble the chassis and send it somewhere where they can anodize aluminium

Also to my experience, schiit offers for some products standalone chassis if you write them email and you are lucky

Quick question, how slow was slow? Did the black chassis ones sell slower than the silver ones?

There is a possibility that it sold slower than the silver unit as some people were not aware of it and just assumed that the silver color shown as the option was the right one, as well as there not being pictures on the site.

Is it possible to do just one full run in black for the Yggdrasil/rggy stack just to try things out again?

Last question, how open are you to perhaps sending 10% of the chassis of the Yggdrasil/raggy and Gungnir Multibit/mjolnir stacks to be refinished in black and sold for a small premium?

Not trying to be a jackass, just really want a black Yggdrasil.

Would the warranty be void if one were to paint their Schiit?
