I created a Unison thread to try to alleviate this mess. Please feel free to bulk move all off the Unison and USB/cable noise there.

Considering Unison is a core component of Bifrost 2 I hope the unison stuff stays here with a copy put in the unison thread.

Also, I spend quite a bit of time on Head Fi, which is often more noise then anything else.

I really appreciate the insight and commentary from the community here on Bifrost 2 (and other Schiit gear). This place is awesome when the threads I am interested in are active.

Note: the Terason boards are v0.9. They had a firmware upgrade that brought them to what we now know as Unison v1.0.

And from that picture you see how well packed that board is, even carefully considering the input transfromer. I guess they needed all that real estate.

I belive Yiggy cards are just the same.

Sadly, the Unison board doesn't work with Apple CCK. Anyways, Bifrost 2 (SPDIF coax) really excels in low level bass detail and extension than the Bifrost Multibit (SPDIF coax) that I had

I am so tempted to spend money I don’t have on this. I won’t do it, because that’s when a hobby becomes an addiction, but I really really want to. Given time I’m sure some good used deals or b-stock inventory will show up and I’ll be able to pounce on it.

I'd been planning an upgrade to Gungnir Multibit in the future, but the Bifrost 2's features and performance in a smaller form factor at a more affordable price meant now was the right time for me. And for once I'll be on the "leading edge" as opposed to catching up 1 or 2 years down the road. Not that this is a race or anything.

    Sorry for the multiple posts.

Space is tight where I plan to put the Beefroast. Specs say it's 2" high. Is that including the feet?
Edit: I just checked my Modi Multibit and the spec says 1.75" (31.75mm), which doesn't include the feet. Hmm ...

Sadly, I went yesterday to Schiitr and that's how I found out that my iPod Touch 7G with iOS 12.4 and Apple CCK does not work with Unison. It cannot recognize the Bifrost at all.

Nicked the below photo off HF, looks to be identical to Jot so add another 1/4” or so for feet and breathing room.

To answer my own question, yes, both Asgard 3 and Bifrost 2 are at the Schiitr for listening.

Both are glorious. The Bifrost 2 is just immaculate. I'll be trying to hold off on getting one and just waiting for Unison to use with my Bifrost MB to see how close that brings it to the BF2, but it feels like a long wait!

Asgard 3 actually seems more laid-back than the A2, in my opinion, but still hefty. Definitely still has that Class A thicc sound. I also found the BF2 brought out a lot of really positive traits in the old A2 -- the A2 always seemed a bit shouty to me with my BFMB, to the point it was a tad fatiguing, but with the BF2 there was a really nice synergy where the A2 lent the nuance of the BF2 with a lot of extra force and impact. It was pretty sweet. Bass f'ing slammed ass with that combo, more so that A3/BF2.

Also I have to say I looooove the new chassis finish on the BF2 and A3. It's velvety and matte and smooth and so so nice -- and the dimmer front LED on the BF2 is a really nice change as well.

Hmm, I wonder what chances of getting a remote for my Gungnir Multibit in January with a unison upgrade are? Currently using it in a speaker system with TV, and switching between optical and USB(from the roon bridge) is a pain in the ass.

There’s no IR receiver or hole in OG Gungnir.

Hmm, wonder where Biff is when you need him...:p

Seriously though, Clem is right on the money. Gungnir Multibit is likely to get the same treatment as Bifrost Multibit: a brand new version, new chassis, Unison, etc due to reasons Schiit didn’t offer the A2 upgrade - too expensive to ship and upgrade relative to the total cost of the unit.

Yggdrasil will likely be the only one “upgraded” to the full meal deal (which was specifically stated by Jason) - doubt very much this will come anytime soon however.

Jason, if you don't mind me asking, would the discount be available through your Asian dealers too, or only if we buy direct from Schiit?

Could and would aren't the same. No way they ever start drilling holes in the cases of older units.

I understand your pain, but does Gungnir sound worse today then when you bought it?

You still have a great DAC.

I am a bit upset too, I got my Bifrost Multibit a few months ago BECAUSE I thought it was upgradeable, so if they ever came out with something better I wouldn't have to pay the full price. Whoops. Yes, it's still a very good DAC, but upgradeability was one of the primary reasons I bought the damn thing. That stings.

I am trying to sell my old Bifrost Multibit alongside one of my Oppo 103s to cover the cost of the new Bifrost. They are an excellent pairing, the Oppo does beat out Gen5, but with the new Bifrost 2 I should be able to just use USB via laptop/phone and nix the need for a streamer altogether. I don't use any of the features of the Oppo except SPDIF output anyway.
