One of these is stretching my budget for any single non-essential purchase, the other is well beyond that (LOL), but this is heartening to hear. It does look like most of the Byggy's magic really relies on the rest of the chain being up to snuff which makes sense for a DAC, so the G2 having more than enough overhead for most desktop systems is pretty damned heartening haha. Maybe in a few years :p

I'm (usually) using a Mimir as my daily driver for headphones at the office. I love that little thing to bits.

I'm sure people that want to spend less than Yggdrasil prefer G2

Space concerns aside, are there sonic reasons you prefer G2 over Byggdrasil?

I'm not discounting space, it matters. "Sounds good for the size" is a standard I do apply and probably doesn't get talked about enough here.

Jot 2 is on my desk and Mjolnir 3 for sale for this reason. It's just less to deal with.

Byggy has a standard 4V output on its analog XLR ports. According to this post on Stereophile, Mike Moffat used higher output voltages on Theta DACs, citing better sound:

    https://www.stereophile.com/content/theta-ds-pro-generation-iii-digital-processor-measurements

My Theta ProBASIC IIIA is louder at the same preamp volume than all other DACs in my (small) collection. However, even after level matching, the Theta sounds noticeably better — the others just sound louder but are muffled or veiled in both the mids and highs.

Has anyone compared the sound quality of DACs with standard 4V XLR versus 5V (EverSolo Z10), 9V (HiFi Rose RD160), or higher (Rockna WaveDream)? Even after level matching, do higher voltage outputs sound better — on revealing 2-channel loudspeakers?

P.S. My Audial S5b with Philips TDA1541A arrived two days ago and is undergoing burn-in as suggested in the user manual. Early impressions are very positive, with the same natural, organic timbre as the PCM1702 in the Theta ProBASIC IIIA. More impressions later.

Pretty sure what Mike meant is that during the development process, they found that higher voltage output sounded better for that specific Theta DAC. Not that DACs with higher voltage outputs sound better than DACs with lower voltage outputs. The Burl B2 and Convert 2 DACs reviewed here have crazy high voltage outputs suitable for the pro audio world. They do not necessarily sound better.
