I agree that Jason and Zach do a great job staying mostly objective, even when they are responding to statements that are accusatory or belittling (I marvel sometimes at how well they do this). I also agree that this is generally the best way to handle yourself on forums where comments can so easily be misunderstood/misconstrued.

Having said that, while I personally get the sense that Jason and Zach can do this without whitewashing their personalities (this is is no way a sleight to them), I suspect that, having read dozens (hundreds?) of your posts on sbaf, that this would be more difficult for you, Whitney. This isn't to suggest that if you officially start your company you should give full vent to all your emotions without so much as reading your comments before posting them (though that could perhaps be entertaining ;)). It's just to say that I'd hate to see all your posts suddenly sounding like your personality had been run through some a.i. better/happier/friendlier/less offensive/more level-headed, but a bit less unique, engaged, and interesting version of yourself. Keeping passions in check is a wise aspiration, but squeezing all the passion out of your interactions with the community on a subject you truly love would definitely be a loss for the community. Just my opinion.

Yeah, I think there’s a place for emotion from manufacturers/MOT’s. It’s a fine balance. I thought Michael Kelly handled it relatively well around here when people gave him feedback about his posts on a competitor’s product, for instance - he didn’t get overly defensive, owned his stuff, explained himself well, etc. Other legacy audiophile-ish companies don’t handle stuff like that so well - some spats over at Audiophile Style between MOT competitors come to mind, I’ll spare everyone by not identifying who.

Thank you for these words, it means a lot to me and is something to think about. I'm still trying to figure out how to best express myself while being an MOT and will probably make some mistakes in both directions, but will be trying to find the right balance. And I welcome feedback if i'm out of line, I am trying to read the community accurately and represent myself honestly. <3

Good grief that slide deck is ghastly! Bleurgh!
Prime example of naive Euclidean-Cartesian, male-brained, engineery, brutalist thinking. Slide 37 for example is an extremely ugly version of what would be better achieved by understanding a paper like this one. Explained here.

Until people think in terms of recursion over graphs/trees instead of loops over arrays, Sigma-Delta will not mature. This is the work of people who have never studied computational theory.

Schiit on the other hand, I greatly admire for their "closed-form math". Instead of leaning into these trends of "in-the-limit" thinking (infinitesimals, just-scale-it-up, do it more, harder, faster), they seek perfect solutions. Purely aesthetically (but in mathematical terms) I favour Schiit to do a much better job with the same resources. The future is bright!

I don't care about what language engineers speak, just about what they build in the end. General (hyper)graph structures are very cool for those of us with that background, but when it comes to actual hardware, the regularity of arrays still wins, as shown by GPUs and all the underlying frameworks of current AI. I've had the good fortune of working all my career with both sides of that divide, so I value them both for what they contribute. I'm too old to be dogmatic, I've seen designs that seemed very ugly to me win the day time and again.

I know it’s rhetorical, but the answer is:
    1. Blockchain
    2. Greed
    3. AI
    4. TSMC having no competition since Intel’s 14nm

Bought a new 7900xtx for slightly less than $800 about a month before the new 9000 series was announced. Damn glad I did but it pisses me off that I'm glad about only spending $800. I remember walking g into best buy and buying a 1080 for $500 when it was totl.

Sorry for further thread derailation, but I settled on a 4060 ($299) to get up to 2.1 HDMI standard (from a 1660 Super) and then I got the Retrotink 4k. I'm lucky there's maybe 2-3 games I want where I need serious GPU power and the newer features of these cards don't feel fully fleshed out. Retrotink, for the same price (or less), I get to maximize my original hardware on my OLED with good BFI (including the Switch and PS4/5, alongside just about every retro console I own). Plus I get to give money to a small business that treats its customers like kings.

The whole game industry is a cancerous leech right now. Xbox prices just went up about 15-20% across the board...for a console that has been on the verge of dying for two years now. And I love the tariffs excuse for games going up in price. You either sell a digital file or press a cheap disc with cover art in a generic case.

If you own a Byygy are you obliged to say “what up Byygy?” to it every morning for it to sound best? Like the new 1 month warm up?

Dude. I was making a joke about the coin word "Byggy". I'll break down my joke I guess
    • "Byggy" sounds like it's from a hip hop song or the name of a Hip Hop artist in fact I believe there are Hip Hop artists with Biggy in their name.
    • Schiit multi bit DACs used to need a long warm up (I never pad attention to it though)
    • I was making a simple joke that instead of a long warm up we would need to greet the Byggy, yes, Delta Sigma DAC saying "what up Byggy" every morning for it to sound it's best.

Here's my joke with a word that seems to have been missed in bold
I was also going to joke that Schiit should do a collaboration special edition with P Diddy and laser engrave his face on the top and call it the Byggy Diddy and charge 3k more but God knows what people woud say to that...

This is one of those time when I don't know how to be an MOT  I make a cute joke and suddenly SBAF is ruined forever

I think jokes are important to keep the spirit of this hobby to what it should be... fun. And honestly, if you don't get that, you really don't know the history of SBAF or how it got started. It used to be so much fun and I'm talking before it was SBAF.

edit: Don't get me wrong, I love the SNR of SBAF. But jokes aren't noise. Jokes sprinkled thorough the forums reminds us of what is important and keep things alive. it's very different than posting "I just bought XYZ!".

Its not even a terrible joke, and its just noise, like the random posts on the head-fi thread. All this MOT talk of yours....Grow some skin, instead of throwing a tantrum and crying like a victim every time your frail man-child ego gets crushed with even a slightest disagreement. Reminds me of how you threw a tantrum and left your "audio is fun" discord. I'm not the only one who feels this way. Just remember to breathe and know the world isn't against you.

I'm not going to respond to any of that except to say that you have no idea why I left the "Audio is Fun" server. i'm not going to justify my decisions to you but I might point out that you are the one creating noise,.. First it's wrong, then it's right but a bad joke, now i'm a shithead...

I'm honestly sorry I was involved in this exchange, I was just trying to make a fun joke and had I known how it would go I would not have responded to any of this. I'm out...

This is kind of a shit talk thread anyway since the product isn't out yet - and no one outside of Schiit has heard it.

Imagine the shit talk if CHORD announced a $5k R2R DAC that was better than anything else they made before. Just a thought. Or if Holo released a $5k delta-sigma DAC better than anything else they made before.

We are allowed a bullshit excitement thread every once in a while.
