I have no experience with the 598 but I have heard good things.

Good headphone, very few flaws and sounds good with most music genres. If I did not have the HD600 I would have gone for the HD598/599 for general music listening.

Thing is if you want/expect a fun headphone it will sound underwhelming.

I second that. I like the hd598 quite a bit, and I think it sounds great on the Fulla 2.

@schiit or anyone else who may know: is the variable output on the fulla 2 passive? Can the Fulla 2 essentially be used as a Sys passive preamp if that's the case? What is the output impedance on the variable output?

Hey, @thegunner100. I just tried this with my Fulla 2, feeding the analog input with Tidal from my Laptop. I plugged some headphones into the variable output to check for sound. Sound comes out of the variable output as long as you provide power to the dedicated micro USB port. When I pulled the micro USB cable, no sound came out of the variable output. So it appears the variable output of the Fulla 2 is not passive (of course @schiit has the skinny since he designed it).

In short, it looks like you could use the Fulla 2 as an active preamp using the 3.5mm analog input on the front and the variable output on the back. In some ways, this is better than a passive pre because you know the output impedance is super low (low enough not to cause Z issues with any power amp). If I recall correctly, the Fulla 2 is op-amp based, not discrete. And if you really want a passive pre, the SYS is great and only $50.

Thanks for testing! I should have clarified, I guess it's more of a buffed preamp then with the op-amp in the chain if there's no gain on the variable output. I was mainly wondering about the transparency of the Fulla 2's variable output when used as a preamp. I plan on eventually getting a Saga though, so the Fulla 2 could be used as a backup if I needed it.

HD558 is pretty similar to 598, but cheaper. Only difference is a small piece of foam behind driver.

    Hi

I bought Fulla 2 and I works great with my PC (although I have to use an USB isolator, otherwise I hear hiss). The problem is it does not work with Android. I bought it in Europe and the distributor does not respond. Any chance to repair it in any Europe base service? I can cover related costs...

You may need to use USB Audio Player Pro for your android device. On my current phone (Moto G5S) it doesn't like external DACs except through UAPP, no Spotify and YouTube.

    See below

Same here, fulla 2 only works on my S7 Edge if I use UAPP.

My Fulla 2 has developed a bug where it's always requesting 500ma through the data input, even when the power input is already plugged in. It looks to be a firmware bug since I can still just use the power input to run Fulla in amp-only configuration front TRS input->headphone jack. Any Fulla 2 owners or @schiit can help with fixing this? Its an older device but if there's a way to make it request 0ma again I would be very grateful.

Cleaning the port with a brush dipped in isopropyl alcohol (quick and dirty method from Wikihow) didn't make a difference. The pads/pins inside both ports look gold and clean. No visible debris.

I've tried multiple USB cables and devices. Both MacOS and Windows show it requesting 500ma even when a phone charger is connected to the power input beforehand.

I'm out of warranty and not currently in North America. I'll see if proper contact cleaner fixes it. I'm still thinking some weird software interaction threw the firmware out of whack, but thank you for the suggestions.
