I agree with the others, it sounds to me like Jotunheim works best with a full balanced chain, but Schiit got things real damn close to par with this topology.

What is current feedback? Does that mean another kind of negative feedback with its own time incoherence and steel?

You should wait. I can confirm no headphone amp functionality in the preamp Jason's been discussing (source). I'm planning on running Yggdrasil XLR into whatever balanced pre is announced at RMAF, then running RCA out of either (1) Yggdrasil, like I am now, or (2) fixed single-ended output from the preamp (if it has one) into a separate headphone amp (T3 in my case). The new preamp will have a remote, whereas Jotun does not.

I'm relatively certain the Jotun topology is being souped up in some form for the speaker amp (sources) in addition to the single-ended current feedback [headphone] amp Jason mentioned in the main thread.

Maybe @schiit can speak to this? I'm interested to know the significance of using current feedback (which I take it hasn't appeared in a Schiit amp before).

Any reviews on the DAC module? I'm debating stacking Bifrost 4490 or just going DAC/Amp Jotunheim

Off-topic but these XLRs from Pro Audio LA are pretty damn nice. 3ft Mogami 2534 Quad Cable with Neutrik Gold Connectors.

Oh yeah, I've ordered from them before. Good prices, straightforward, no bullshit.

Do you like those more than Canare Starquad with Neutrik XX (or similar) XLR connectors?

Question for early bird jotun owners: How is the volume pot implementation on the jotun?

Does it have any noticeable channel imbalance at low volume level(low gain) with sensitive IEMs?
How linear is the loudness scaling vs amount of volume dial turning?
Any audible noise(@ transducer output) when turning the volume pot?

Dude you seriously just made my day with this news. I had no idea a Schiit preamp was happening this soon.

My hd650 balanced cable was built with the Canare Starquads. I don't have my hd650 cable atm to compare but I honestly think that they're about the same quality. The Canare does have more color options if that's you're interested in. I haven't used any XLR plugs other than the nickel or gold Neutriks, so I can't comment on that.

I almost forgot that I have TFZ S5's. No hiss that I can hear turning the pot from zero to full without music playing. Channel balance sounds spot on. On low gain, there is good scaling with a very usable range on the pot.

Just tried the S5's on Magni 2U and the right channel comes on before the left and normalizes after a few degrees turn.

    Jot pot smokes yo!!!

Awesome impressions by RKML. But my man, I got lost in your chain somewhere around FMCx2. Your chain is longer than my ....... well, it's damn long! ;-)

@Bill-P - How are you using battery power? I thought the Wyrd used AC power?

From the impressions this sounds like the amp equivalent of the HD 650. Meaning that the HD 650 can scale up to TOTL amps while the Jotunheim can scale up to TOTL DACs.

Feel like pulling the buy trigger, but talks of a rumoured new Schiit Preamp(Sys Uber?) is stopping me.

So can I say that this is the holy trinity?:
    Modi Multibit + Jotunheim + HD650

There's no reason to buy the 4490 with the Modibit available for purchase. Go with either a) built-in DAC in the Jotun b) the Moby or c) save up for the Bifrost Multibit.

As someone who's owned (and critically listened to) a BF4490 and both of the aforementioned multibit DACs in a reasonably transparent system, trust me when I say that these are the only options which you should consider.

Wasn't a link that says schiit 2 channel preamp will stay as preamp ( I take it that it means no headphone output)

    Or I might have misinterpreted.
