I want it tomorrow but there's no way it goes from CA to NY overnight when I order at 4:30pm. If only I noticed sooner...

I ordered one along with an Asgard 2 within a few minutes of reading the news it had been released. I've been tossing around the idea of upgrading, the Gungnir was tempting but a bit more than I wanted to spend right now. I expected the Bifrost Multibit to cost a bit more, figured it would end up being a choice between a DAC-19, used Neko Audio D100 MKII (auditioned one of these and loved it) with a USB to SPDIF converter or the Bifrost Multibit but when I saw the price of the Bifrost Multibit it was a no-brainer.

For $850 the assfrost MB combo is deliciously good. Schiit just killed the <$1000 DAC/amp game. Sheesh.

I own the Asgard 2 and frost uber, and I can't imagine how much improvement there could be. Impressions to follow once I upgrade.

If going hd6x0, hd800, or beyer, Valhalla 2 would be a better choice than the A2.

Yeah I feel like a Val2/Bifrost MB is a very very good starter pack for HD600/650/800. Well done, Schiit.

Why are we calling it the beef roast?

Also any one thinking of voiding the warranty with power supply mod?

So I just ordered the Multibit Upgrade. I'm 4th in line.

The weird part is that I just sent my Bifrost in for repairs a week ago and got a notice yesterday that it was fixed and on it's way back to me. o_O

Timing is important. Bad timing is my specialty.

Just ordered the upgrade. Can't wait to compare it to my current Gungnir Multibit stack.

Is there any other multibits that are anywhere near this price for comparison? The only one I can think of is the Soerkris DAC but that's just a board without power or chassis.

We haven't done an exhaustive survey, but I believe that Bifrost Multibit is the least expensive multibit DAC, at least from a manufacturer with serious warranty and service.

What I can definitely say, though, is that even if there are multibit DACs at or below this price, Bifrost Multibit is the only one based on a new* multibit architecture (rather than, say, using ancient, NRND or "pull" NOS 16-bit Philips DACs from the Jurassic Age of digital), and the only one with Mike's comboburrito filter.

*The Yggdrasil/Gungnir Multibit and Bifrost are arguably the only two new commercial multibit implementations in the last 2 decades—or at least the only two that aren't based on discrete resistor ladders and which cost like cars. Bifrost counts as its own implementation, since the DSP/DAC interface is so different than the Yggdrasil/Gungnir Multibit. it's doubtful if you'll see other DACs based on the D/A converters we're using here, as they are not audio DACs and the engineering work to interface it to audio is significant—let alone the engineering for doing your own digital filter.

"Yes. The AK4490 D/A converter is less expensive than the one we used previously (even though it’s better in both measured and sonic performance in this application.) And, our volumes have gone up enough that we can pass savings along. We’re also not the kind of company that uses a sub-$3 D/A chip in a DAC that costs $3000+. Isn’t that the way things are supposed to work? "

I just want to say you guys are a f'ing class act. I've loved my sys for my uses but a Bifrost Multibit is definitely in the near future cards.
