With headphones, there is certainly a sweet spot. Past 3:00 it just gets funky. It’s like you walked though the band and were listening with your back turned to band.

Love the fact there is a screen misprint in the first units. Collector’s items?

Yep, it’s a minor annoyance but Schiit handling it well. I get a T shirt out of the deal. I can’t understand the hieroglyphics most of the time anyway.

I have ordered enough items from Schiit Audio that I know to look at the "fine print" as they put it.

It DID NOT SAY 1-2 weeks when I put in my order, it said 1-3 days.

Their email is saying otherwise is inaccurate.

    Cool graphs.

Is there any way to show how the channels l/r are mixed in a graph? I can't think of how ... but the descriptions I've seen aren't getting through my thick head.

I know a Hafler circuit is two outside speakers r ext = r - l and l ext = l - r? So the common information is removed, and only unique information is played in the outside channels.

Is this what they are doing?

If you’re talking shipping times, yeah they are going to increase. There’s a silkscreen issue that slipped through.

Hey, I am allowed to be pissed off about a misstatement in the first sentence of what is supposed to be a polite letter to a customer knowing their item is delayed, especially after I dropped 3x postage for faster delivery. I stated my case quickly and without unnecessary drama.

While I wait, I am looking at discounted Chora 826 and 816, has anyone tried the the 816 D - 826 D? I'm thinking of using that and attaching the the surround channels to the Atmos speakers (they are on top of the speaker, it's a 2.5 way with the blue drivers and floor standing).

I am curious if anyone has this config.

Contact Schiit support. Explain the situation. Let them know the 3x postage for hurry up delivery is no longer needed because you ordered under the assumption that the product would be delivered sooner rather than later.

Their customer service gets important things right, but their communication is condescending and blames the customer:

In case you didn’t see it in fine print on the product page, the SYN is currently in a backorder with an estimated lead time of 1-2 weeks.

When you send something in for repair, even if you are paying for it, you get twenty questions about if you have gone though the page with the faq, even though to GET THE EMAIL you have to go through the page with the faq and answer the questions.

They treat their customers like we are problems.

I'm sorry you feel that way, and this is certainly not our intention. I'd be interested in seeing your complete communication strings with our customer service personnel, so I can see where the communication broke down. You can send them via PM if you don't want to post them.

I had an experience with customer service when the FV was released. When I ordered it, the shipping was 3-5 days. At that time, I had to acknowledge that the shipping at the time of order was the correct timeframe and if shipping times increased, that didn't apply to my order. I guess they were getting a bunch of emails when shipping times slipped to days, weeks, and months due to shortages. Anyway, when other people who ordered in a similar time received their FV, I didn't get any shipping info. When I emailed CS, the only response I got was "the website says it will be XXX weeks". I did point out the above, but got the same response. I of course got frustrated and cancelled the order. Luckily I got my head out of my ass and reordered one right away when back in stock.

However, in hindsight, I realized I read waaaay too much into an email. There is no way CS is going to know when something would be in stock. There is no way the shipping times are absolute and infallible. If a shipment doesn't come in when scheduled, that will affect everything downstream. The email wasn't rude, it was a true statement. Additionally, when I emailed CS about my dead Yggdrasil, Tom asked if I did X,Y, and Z per the FAQ. I said yep, I did all that. Got an RMA, and it's there now waiting to be examined. Same happened with iBasso when my DX320 X was jacked up. Same with Woo Audio when my WA8 was rumbling, etc...

It's an email. You can't read into it anything other than what is being explained to you. Unless they call your a stupid git in the email, you can't assume poor intentions. Ask them to change shipping to standard and move on. Or cancel in frustration, take a step back, and order one when back in stock.

the reason for the dislikes is that it is noise in a thread that is supposed to be measurements/impressions/discussion about the product itself. I would expect similar dislikes if someone posted "just ordered my syn, can't wait for it to arrive".

IOW, this is not the place. Can we move this stuff out of this thread?

So, getting back on track. I noticed the Syn effect on music is more complicated than just crossfeed. I notice more accentuation on reverb in live performances. It’s not just widening of the soundstage, but increasing the whole soundstage. Since you can turn the presence and width off with a button, it’s easy to ABX on vs off. Once you Syn your music, it’s pretty addictive.

Honestly, I don't know how things have gone down in this case and I hope your issues get resolved, but, if you communicate with anyone the way you communicate here, I assume you, personally, are a problem. Your communication style is abrasive and your posts are not really additive. You just sound entitled TBH and your SNR is low in general.

There's zero empathy or attempt to contextualize your message for the audience. You are basically an internet audio Karen.

How does the Sun do with 4 channel (no center), or 4.1 with a sub? Specifically for a music listening. I’m curious the hear impressions.

For music, the Syn is very cool. For me this harkens back to the car audio in the early 90s. I installed a surround sound processor (I think the brand of the processor was Eclipse?) into the car. It was basically 4.1 with two speakers in the front, two in the back, and a x2 10" Boston Acoustics sub in the trunk.

Maybe the Syn isn't for purists with megabuck DACs and the super clean minimalist signal path approach. However, I found using the Syn in 4.1 quite convincing. The surround and width effects are adjustable so that the effect doesn't have to be overblown. The Syn actually works with regular material not mastered in multichannel. I can't explain it, but it does do it's thing. And yes, it does work more less work as intended with with ripped SACD multichannel and my Santana Quadraphonic LPs!

Also what @Johnston98 said, I can't say better:
Now I'm probably one of those people in "purist" category; however, I've found the Syn to be so enjoyable providing the immersive experience to the point where I'm like F it, I'll take it. Sometimes it sounds cool is better than audio nervosa chasing down that last bit of microdetail. My intent was for watching movies and games, but music was something I did not expect.

For watching streaming, this is what I did:

    upload_2023-4-11_19-37-24.png

Note that I don't touch the Presence Knob when there is no center channel. I will move this to my computer setup and do a show and tell in a bit.

With respect to movies, yes, it's real surround. Not a fake surround ambient effect as there is with music. In other words, when there are normal scenes without surround info, there is absolutely nothing coming out of the surround channels. How in action scenes like in Mission Impossible where cars and motorcycles are coming up from behind or the side, the rear surrounds do work.

Agreed, on headphones, I don't like to go so far out, not even past 2:00. A light touch. With speakers, I don't mind pushing it a bit on the width knob. Makes the sound more like big movie theater! EDIT: Without the center channel, don't turn more than 1:30 position.

@purr1n curious to hear if it can improve spatialization in games with headphones without crappy DSPs
