I received an offer from Amazon of a year of Stereophile for $5. Declined, it's not worth that.

There is a guy over on CA that really dislikes the Yggdrasil. He claims he can here a glitch at the zero crossover point. He also says that the Yggdrasil measures terribly. His handle over there is "manisandher". He thinks the Auralic Altair sounds and measure better too.

I don't have a problem with someone that doesn't like the Yggdrasil. But the crap this guys comes up with....

For the curious, here's where the fun begins:
    https://www.computeraudiophile.com/forums/topic/31284-just-got-a-yggdrasil/?page=3

GUTB seems to be an active member there... He seems as well to be a respected member of the CA community.

PS That thread is basically the CA equivalent of the current thread, discussing JA ♥ Yggdrasil.

It's only a matter of time when they realize GUTB is an idiot who hasn't heard any of this stuff and owns a "high-end" DAC with cardboard cutouts underneath the custard donuts.

This is clearly some new meaning of the word "respected" that I was previously unaware of ...

Read this, then work backwards a bit.

Good point. He is as respected as 'manisandher' though... :) (Considering their "reputation" there as a metric.)

I used to frequent CA on a pretty regular basis, but ultimately came to the conclusion that with a few notable exceptions, the lunatics there are running the asylum. Just my opinion though. There is a group there that are extremely militant subjectivists who operate by shouting others down rather than having an actual substantive discussion. I know this is not unheard of in audio circles, but for me, it isn't much fun to watch and less fun to participate in. Never understood why someone disagreeing with you is seen as carte blanche to be an asshole.

    A few observations:
    1. I am so glad there is no unnatural obsession over DSD over here. Folks here have content in DSD, HDCD, DXD, etc. but we understand that the quality of the masters will matter 10-100x more than the format.
    2. The Holo's DAC ladders appear to be trimmed / calibrated. Kudos to the designer Jeff Zhu. A-GD should hire him.

I dunno, then you'd lose A-GD's signature house sound.

Don't worry, it would be a whole new line (with new confusing names), of course.

I'm afraid to open the S19 box that @Hands sent me. Worried what I might see or smell.

Hand's tears, when he realized he blew 6 grands on a DAC that is matched by a $600 chinese hand made discrete ladder DAC! He's just too ashamed to say it, so he invented this whole shit story

I took the Hegel HD30 review posted on CA at face value and bought one - big mistake. Little better than typical 6 Moons manufacturer analingus. Cringe worthy t-bag effort. HD30 is an edgy DAC with a nasty sound signature. The AK4490 chip it uses is utter shit compressed into concentrated goat anuses. Velvet sound = velvet arseholes. Couldn't sell that shit fast enough.

Separation and sound stage were spectacular, but what the f**k does that matter if the sound signature makes you want to stuff your genitals into a meat grinder?

Measurements are not always an indicator of how a DAC will sound. I'm not sure why Stereophile and some Computer Audiophile readers place so much emphasis on graphs and Two's complement math they don't understand. As a designer, I can't tell you how many products I have come across that have excellent technical measurements but perform terribly in the real world.

This is so true. The spec sheet is just part of the story. Especially when dealing with something as subjective as audio. Synergy, and the lack there of, is often overlooked.
