If it works for you then it works. The way i see it Arch is a great tool for learning linux with the excellent documentation. Not something you should install if it just has to work, breakages will probably happen but you will learn how to fix it. Not everyone is down for that. It's like the Lego of Linux.

Yeah the budgie desktop is pretty nice, i would use it if it had proper hidpi support. I think gtk/gnome does some fractional scaling but it's experimental. The budgie guys are a small team so it might take a while but at least their base supports it. Personally i use kde now, the scaling is excellent and beter than windows.

Great distro! I was also drawn to it for their Steam integration helper, but stuck around for the desktop.

Another great thing about Solus is how active and responsive the community is-- at least from what I remember a few years back. Ikey's a fantastic guy who's willing to hang out on IRC and share his knowledge on how Solus/eopkg work, so the smaller repos didn't hurt too much.

AFAICT it does; I use it on a 2160p Skylake XPS13 and a 32" 2160p desktop (and even both connected to the XPS13) and haven't noticed any issues. But yeah I recently switched to KDE because better overall cohesion in the UI. But I still like Budgie.

Which factor did you use for Budgie? I also have a 32" 4k screen and 1.5x scaling is perfect, 2.0x is just way too big. In all fairness i only tried Budgie on my laptop(non hidpi) with Manjaro, my main pc with the hidpi screen only runs Fedora and Budgie support on Fedora is a bit shit.

May not be necessary today, but the typical way to get fractional scaling before Gnome supported it was to use Gnome's integer scaling to scale everything up and then use xrandr to scale down the preferred amount. This keeps your fonts nice and sharp (as opposed to only scaling with xrandr). See: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HiDPI#Fractional_Scaling

This'll probably work for Budgie, but I can't confirm that.

Yeah i've read that but i also read comments that said it doesn't scale perfectly everywhere. In any case i'm not the biggest fan of gnome so i had no inclination to try it.

Of all the Gnome desktops, I think Budgie is the most cohesive. But I also never tried it on another distro.

    Ragnarok 2 coming in March.

Looks like Jude leaked it in his video around 31:30...I assume an announcement from Jason is pending:

25w into 32ohm from the balanced out

Well hey I guess that might be interesting to the vintage chifiman crowd.

I'm pretty geeked that the Rag 2 can take the Schiit expansion cards. It's like a modern take on the old school hi-fi receivers. The photos Jude showed also look rad. I think Jason knocked the industrial design out of the park. If the sound quality is good, the value proposition is stupid high since it combines so much functionality into one platform. If the base model without cards still comes in under $2k, I'm guessing this will be a winner.

Yep, it's time we start previewing. Ragnarok is not long for this world; we have a few black ones left that are marked down if anyone wants one. No, you can't swap it for a Ragnarok 2 when they're out, sorry.

If you purchased a Ragnarok within the last month, and want to return it, contact us NOW. No, you can't keep it until Ragnarok 2 is out, sorry.

An important note: Ragnarok 2 is much more an integrated amp, rather than an overgrown headphone amp. It'll play hard into difficult loads due to a surfeit of heat sinking, and runs almost disturbingly cool when not cranked up.

Translation: it's less suitable for IEMs. But it's great with full-size headphones. Seriously, think about the wisdom of connecting CIEMs to a 32-lb paperweight that puts full power out into the balanced headphone jack, or 1/4 power out to the SE jack, both from a less than 0.04 ohm source impedance.

Oh, and the LEDs are WAYYYYYYY less bright, this is the first application of our light pipes.

Just for fun, an in-situ photo:

Really excited by this news and possibly disrupts my upgrade plans. Sorry to be that guy, but any hints for us on price?

EDIT: Doh! Missed last line in flyer above: "Priced similar to outgoing Ragnarok"

That looks incredible! I like that you are carrying the Vidar / Aegir style over to other products.

So, chapter about the Nexus architecture when? This seems to be the way you'll be going for products where you would have circlotron before?

Does this drive speakers? If so Aegir or Rag 2 for sound quality?

    Yes and depends.

Rag 2 has more power, but is not a constant-transconductance design.

Likewise, Lyr 3 is and Mjolnir 2 isn't, and some people prefer the latter anyway, so only you can prevent forest fires, and decide.
