Adapticlock is amazing. What it needs is a switch. It's very hard to appreciate something properly you can't enable/disable.

Comparing a Bifrost 2 vs Yggdrasil, it would be fair to switch Adapticlock off to compare the pure DACs, and then switch on Adapticlock to show the source cleanup that is an extra feature of the Yggdrasil. Watch @GoldenOne's analysis with Holo May where he does analysis with/without.

Tweaking sources, it would be helpful to switch off Adapticlock to see the raw source, rather then the cleaned one.

In practice, while listening you'd leave Adapticlock on 99%+ of the time, but it's still useful to be able to turn Adapticlock off to understand, tweak and and appreciate the Yggdrasil more.

Could you clarify please? If you're on A1, the unit needs to go back for upgrade. If you're on A2 (or any of the new versions) then you can swap at home?

I think I am seeing a USB pattern forming in this new wave of Schiit. I hope it's usb c, so that when I'm really as old as I feel, I can easily plug and unplug 'blind', and I also hope they don't forget about me and my last investment into AES (yeah yeah, my fault for getting onboard too late)

OK, so we have three flavors of Yggdrasil, buy they are all the same color and no-one knows how the new ones taste.

Hopefully there will be something giving a hint in the shop window, or that's a pretty frustrating buying decision.

@GoodEnoughGear reviews and flavor discussions will come out, and after they do will be the time to choose your flavor.
Honestly, kudos to Schiit if they've found the best they can make and are sticking by it and offering alternatives instead of trying to pimp a NEW AND IMPROVED (but not really) $4k or more DAC. Standup guys for offering flavor instead of asking for more money.

Of course that will happen (and will be the better way of determining tase alignment), but I do expect that Schiit will have some sort of indication via personal opinions etc. about where these things are aimed from a voicing perspective. I mean thay can't have randomly decided to develop and build these configurations with no objective...that doesn't sound, well, like Schiit.

Stoked to see someone use this part! I remember telling @CEE TEE about it early last year. Did not expect it to get picked up and used for audio like this as quickly as it did.

I think AKM's factory fire may have inspired them to proactively look at other potential vulnerabilities, such as needing Analog Devices chips for what they are best known for on the DAC side: multibit. But of course it could have been curiosity about current mode as well. I certainly look forward to Jason's chapter about it.

Same I thought it would take much longer for someone to jump on these for audio, let alone Schiit!

@schiit with user upgrade option being available now will this also go for the OG OG Yggdrasil ie Analog 1? Or is the firmware upgrade that came with the Analog 2 required?

You will now be able to order any of the boards, without installation at our factory. We have worked it out so all firmware is on the plug-in ROM. As usual, due to the complexity of the installation (many screws, etc), we recommend that you have a professional electronics technician do it. But no Yggdrasil will have to come back to the factory for any of the boards, including AD5791.

This is awful and awesome for me at same time. I have a Yggdrasil A1 w/ firmware upgrade. It means now I can (I wonder if I will) buy 3 sets of board and play with 4 variants of the DAC…… oh my………

Email sent out to Yggdrasil owners by Schiit as taken from r/Schiit:

I remember Mike mentioning his hatred for sample-and-hold at some point so maybe More is Less exists to show people that measurements don't tell everything. What's more interesting is the 16-bit multiplying DAC chip akin to the AD5547 on Modi Multibit, so that will be kind of a big Mumby. Will it be NOS? 4x? 8x? Gonna be an exciting thunderdome/blind test for sure.

So the cheaper models use an opamp output buffer and TI chips if I understand correctly?

kind of wondering what the value proposition of 'less is more' vs Gungnir A2

Super excited for the Folkvangr. I was greedily hoping that was ready to roll out to our hot little hands ASAP.....but at least the pre-production work looks like it's trucking along. I looooove my Valhalla 2 + Soekris DAC 2541...toss in some DT880/600 and jazz....yes please. If Folkvangr can magnify that groove....biscuit city. And frankly in black, how can this amp not look completely bad-ass? ;)

For the new Yggdrasil, as a very newish, no-kinda'-nuttin' audio consumer....interested to see how those options shake out. If Schiit wants to do a thing, it's good by me.....and more options (most of the time) beat less options. The pricing in the e-mail shared above was a bit of a surprise in that.....from a plebian consumer standpoint....I expected more of a 'spread' in cost from Gungnir to the OG. Gungnir at $1,300....ie. here's a new Dac/Opamp Yggdrasil flavor at $1,700...one at $2,000...OG at XXX, etc. Where it landed, I wouldn't think that folks who have $2K+ to spend are going to be meaningfully impacted by a $200-$400 delta. Once you are tossing around two stacks+, you want either the 'best' or there's something about a flavor that specially tailors to whatever other components you have.

I know Jason S. mentioned some blind-listening reviews, but will be interested from a marketing/design/product perspective the 'why' and fit of the two new editions vs. (choosing not to do) further evolution of the OG model. Again, zero criticism.....I'll be buying one to take the place of my BF2 so all good by me. But to my point prior....I was ably seduced by the allure of analog/discrete TOTL Yggdrasil...two new challengers for my love and wallet appear, but the delta (savings) to both is basically equivalent to my average Saturday night bar bill. IE, price ain't a deciding factor. The Schiit team has designed the new flavors because they bring something to the table they feel compelling....if even as a side-journey...then the OG. Will be very interested to understand that better!
