Should SBAF buy a Holo Spring 3 KTE for a loaner?

please cast your vote. I'd buy one used so we could recoup the cost, but I don't want to buy one and have 4 people sign up.

I wasn't a huge fan of the Holo MAY I just borrowed so I'm not that interested anymore, but happy to get one if SBAF wants to hear it.

 

The initiated among us now 3D print our own dildos. And I have to tell you, the reactions you get from patrons at the library's MakerSpace are priceless.

 

Damn, I would vote no since the may should sound better on every metric, and the cost is enormous. Prob see if chord mojo 2 actually is actually better, though if it sounds worse than a Hugo 2 as reviewers say, don’t really see the point.

 

Well the MAY is a great DAC technically, I just wasn't a fan of the tone/timbre or voicing. But I don't speak for everyone that's for sure.

If this acquisition occurs, I would request the opportunity to measure and compare with my Spring 2 KTE.

Another vote for no. I'm a huge fan of Spring 3 tho. Those who are on the market of this price range are arguably rare in SBAF. And I bet most of them already had their ears on Spring 3 (or higher end ones) anyhow like I did.

With short auditions on each, I like Sp2 and Sp3 both. Price aside, they're where I should upgrade once I'm bored with 2541 eventually in the future. I'm just quite uncomfortable with Sp2 price (either new or used) already. Sp2-3 price gap is even more daunting. I couldn't find Sp3's supremacy deserved cost gaps. All these might be because I'm poor. Richer people must think differently.

Anyway, unless we get a kind loaner from dealers, I'm still doubting the net benefit over the opportunity cost (liquidation difficulty included).

 

Id like to hear it but still voted no. I'm not sure it makes sense unless there are solid commitments from at least 15 people.

 

I require clarification: Is this for recreational purposes, to replicate your own, or some combination of the two?

 

I've actually been talking to @Erroneous about his May, and am curious to demo a Spring myself after my ZDSE landed a few days ago. Time to start thinking about a DAC for it.

 

I'd love to listen to the difference between the spring2 and spring3 (to see if its worth an upgrade at some point)

Voted yes to let folks hear before they buy and I think this will likely end up in the hands of someone who has heard it on the tour and because dildos are overrated. But won't be in the tour because I already have one.

Spend the money on more influential stuff - headphones/speakers and amps. And honestly I'm so burnt out on the hype of the Holo stuff. It may be justified hype but it's gotten to the point that it's annoying.

 

I'm surprised as well. Pancakes might be on to something, but what exactly do people want to hear in the more expensive (say > $2k) space? Maybe something more mainstream like Focal Utopia and/or LCD-4/5? Perhaps some flavor of tube amp, but those are hard to ship/maintain and thus tour. SBAF might be too settled on Yggdrasil as the end game DAC to be all that interested in other high end offers....just thinking out loud here.

 

I think it’s a value problem ,and probably have to work out synergy again with a new dac, seeing if people can like nos etc, applying Hqplayer filters… it definitely probably has a place but feeling is that it isn’t a product that gets a safe general recommendation.

 

Well if we've got 18 solid people who will sign up, I'll probably get it. We're not going to loose money, so it's not that big a deal and I can't think of any other purchases right now.

Any other gear you'd rather have me purchase instead?
