Yeah, I'm trying for both the black and the white but hoping I cop the white.

Couple of recent lacing experiments that turned out great:

Jordan 1 co.jp Japan neutral grey with waxed plum laces.

This week I turned 39 and I'm wondering if I'm too old for dope kicks and chasing the drip.

Been ignoring this thread but I've had some good pickups and been f'ing around with fits as I question if I'm becoming an old fart.

Copped these fireberry AF1s when they flashed back in stock. Swapped one lace with orange. 20211019_063949_2.jpg

Going for that dirty mirror drip.

went gold AF Air Max 90s to annoy the daughter one day.

    Love them AM90 betrues.

Halloween lacing experiments with these Jordan 5s.

Chasing that #fatdaddrip with jordan 1 mids and a gold lace swap.

here's the japan Jordan highs with plum laces. Some $15 shirt I found to go with it plus a j crew hoodie from when they used to do the loro piana cashmere. Trying to find something comparable these days but I can't find equivalent cashmere for under $1k and f**k if I'm paying that much for a hoodie.

    20211011_081112_2.jpg

used jordans I copped for dirt cheap. Someone dyed the tongue black. Was cold AF that morning so I pulled out the outlier strongworks (my man @pure5152 knows what's up).

Never too old for that. But if you feel like you're outgrowing Nike sneakers, you strike me as the kind of guy who might derive equal enjoyment from collecting Gucci loafers.

I actually have a few pairs of really nice leather shoes. I'm not big on having Gucci or anything like that.

At least with Jordans, holding and selling in a year (or even a few months) has paid for the entire collection.

Mentioned Gucci only because they do a lot of the same sorts of things that you seem to like about Nike: Very limited editions, unusual colorways and exotic materials, etc:

That's what this thread is about, capturing that happiness and bringing it to our adult lives :)

Per @pure5152's suggestion, I might start a fitpic/outlier thread as well.

Gottta be honest. Sometimes i absolutely dislike you because i am so envious of some of the models you have. Great taste and i see so many models that i never saw before and that i would absolutely would love to be able to buy but i know that would be a dangerous road for me.

Keep it going, i love this thread (this deserved more than just a thumbs up).

Managed to snag these on the last supreme drop. So ridiculous.

I think you follow a couple of the right twitter accounts and BAM, you know all the relevant shoe stuff. You should jump in with 1-2 pairs of kicks that make you happy! That's enough to feel awesome.

Wife is getting matching kicks for me and the boy for Xmas to get him to learn to tie his shoes. Of course I sourced them and had to snap a pic before giving them over. These lightning 4s are f'ing beautiful. @Walderstorn, these could be your first Jordans! The official colorway name is "tour yellow" for these Jordan 4s and you can get them for reasonable resale prices these days (price has dropped very close to retail).

I'm personally not a fan of most Jordan's, but there are a special few that I have caved to. The ones posted above by ZD remind me a little of all the special Oregon colorways that Jordan has released to very few and usually special individuals or athletes. The Jordan 3 is the shoe that I really find 'special' from the earlier shoes - excluding the universally loved Jordan 1. The 3 really had a lot to say in a time that freedom of speech in the NBA seemed to finally be slightly lifted and finally celebrated.

It wasn't until... I'd probably say - the Concordes (Space Jam) and the Staples / Pidgeon Dunks when it was nationally known that sneakers were THAT important to culture. I believe that ZD, Marv and a few others of us grew up in a real unique portion of time that has brought us here through hobbies.

My sneaker passion was lead through my love of playing basketball. The only professional sports team I had as a child was a basketball team. NHL and MLB came shortly after though. I ended up playing all the sports and loving all the sneaker tech and style. But being a 'homer' and loving my home basketball team, I followed their sneaker trends. The first real "Signature" athlete here was on team Converse. Both of the Johnsons were on team Converse. I had to have the Con's. Those leaky react gel bastards.

AND THEN... My Grandma's hometown of Disney World (Orlando) got a team. This Shaq guy is the real deal. Lemme check out those Shaq's and Kemp's. Whoa CO2 pumped kicks - the same as my BB gun?? DOPE!.. But damn those hex air whatever it was called broke down too!

Then it came time to Barkley vs. Jordan. Nike vs. Nike... Sigh... Jordan's really do look better than every other Nike at that point.... EXCEPT.... ORLANDO MAGIC.... Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway... his shoes, his performance... I was converted. Team Penny for the rest of my life. I still haven't owned a foamposite, and I should never at my age, but damn... that was the future.

I slowly stumbled out of sports and into 'life' and dunks still get some rotation, but mostly lots and lots of runners / trainers with their own stories.

Today I wore an Nike HTM Air Max 1 iD that came out a few years back for "Air Max day" which is in March.

Shoes have always been a start or an end or a special occasion for me. I can go into my closet and tell you where I bought them and why I bought them and why they are still in there. I have over 50 pairs here and I always keep those stories to myself in hopes of meeting someone IRL that is willing to just listen. Here's to hoping and Here's to always finding ways to remember important people/places/things in your memories.

I really like those indeed. Will Google!

A couple of unrelated questions... do you only buy Nike/Jordan (it's still a subsidiary right?!)? If so, why?

Honestly, this is probably my midlife crisis and I've tried to keep it focused. For me, these classic silhouettes were the shoes I thought were dope growing up but never had. Now that I can have them and I enjoy crazy colors, I like using kicks as a fun, obsessive outlet. I end up with a lot of Jordans at this point because Jordan Brand is getting really playful with colorways for their classic designs and I love it.

That being said, while most of my purchases are Nike (my favorite shoe being the Air Max 95), I'm happy to buy other shoes. I tried to get these Yeezy 700s and the these New Balance collabs recently but took Ls on both:

I really don't like New Balance. I never seen a model (in the streets) that I liked.

When I was a kid, 30y ago I really liked Fila and Pumps and stuff, now my taste changed a lot and some of those models (with a splash of color) that you have been posting really get to me.

I wonder if Black Friday will have good deals for me. I know that in the US things get crazy but here not as much I believe.

NB's are in my rotation - 998 / 997 / 990. I have two pairs of 990's - One is just a traditional black grey white and the other set are from the Boston Marathon (2013) - I believe all sales went to charity for those. I'll insert a generic photo of them below so you can laugh at the colorway.

It's part of being a geriatric millenial or gen-xer. There's all this stuff we love from 30 years ago that they're retroing with new, bold colors.

These are gorgeous. Need on-foot pics.

LOL you keep asking for photos - I'm not caving to the pressure. I'm sure there is some weird foot fetish person lurking somewhere that won't be able to resist my ankles. :D

But honestly - I've never been into taking photos of much of anything. I think we all came from 'film' and the importance of your subject. When digital came along and we could finally send those d-pic's via e-mail instead of in a letter, it changed quite a few things. The younger generation doesn't care much about those unspoken rules and I feel the tug of change always trying to tempt me.

The last 'Jordan' I bought was meant for my basketball league. I went with the Jordan 28 SE (All-Star). The story for those is interesting in a small way. They were supposed to be worn by basketball player Joe Johnson, but he got a last minute substitution and ended up not wearing them for the weekend. They ended up not even showing up for All-Star weekend, but they were only 1 of 2 'custom' variants for Jordans for the weekend. Russ Westbrook being the only other athlete that had custom Jordan 28's (Non-SE, poly, zip-up outer 'skin') The SE is a de-skinned version of the normal 28. Picture of those ugly things below. Yes- they are black light reactive LOL.
