Waited as long as I could. The apartments down below are a block east and two blocks north from my house.

A neighborhood 15-20 minutes northwest from us in Oak Park took the initial brunt six-seven hours ago.

Family and cats are safe now in Valencia. All hotels in the Valley were booked.

Holy crap, that looks like a volcano more than a fire. Glad you and your family are safe. I can’t even imagine being in your situation right now (and those around you).

Wishing you luck and that it somehow avoids your house.

Yeah f**k, stay safe. Hopefully it'll be contained soon. There is another one up north in Butte county, I think. Nowhere near me, but we were still blanketed by smoke yesterday.

From the chopper photos, it looks things may have calmed down in Malibu Canyon; hard to say because the Santa Ana winds can pick up at any time to throw a fireball on a roof.

We're not attached to our earthly possessions. I think my daughter wants the house to burn down so we can do an HGTV special. Our place was built in the late 50s, but with upgrades, so it's kind of funky.

BTW, the photo above is of the apartments to the east of Las Virgenes Road north of Thousand Oaks. I took it from up and east on Ruthwood.

Hopefully your house is fine - i've been in a similar situation with forest fires in Western Canada. Did you leave with all your headphone gear? :D

Yeah. I considered grabbing the ZMF Verite, but other more important shit took priority. Took photos of everything in the house just in case.

I left with a backpack of three changes of clothing, my laptop, the Nintendo Switch (who I believe some of you chipped in for when I was dying at the hospital), and ZX2 / Campfire Solaris.

The super nice old lady across the street (old school GOP / Ronnie Raygun , guns, and American flag) is still there. Of course she would be! Julie checked in on her to make sure she was OK. Power is out on the street, but firefighters are containing the fire - lots of smoke though.

So it's south of the 101 now in the canyons too? Damn. Strength to the firefighters, and hope the winds stay down.

I'd like the firefighters to stay safe. "Stuff" isn't worth it. Their job is extra dangerous with these winds, not mention the toxins they breath in that could cause future health issues.

We saw the fire maps before we moved in. We knew of the possibility.

Yeah, been through a couple rough fire seasons when I worked in Calabasas. Like earthquakes, you just have to respect that time may come.

Stay safe. Family is far more important than stuff.

The smoke looked like mushroom cloud this morning from Pasadena.

Damn, some of you people in that part of the world live dangerous lives, just by being there.

Really, really hope things work out ok and you are back home soon

Na, it's not that bad. It's like we are First World refugees. Oh so horrible from Calabasas to Valencia!

The people in Syria or Honduras trying to get the heck of their respective situations have it x1000 worse. I'm thankful we can have stuff like NewsChopper-4 giving us constant updates and DC-9 / DC-10 tanker planes laying fire retardant lines.

That's a tough one...it's 'the job'. The risks are known when you take it, and many live for the adrenaline rush. I totally agree that many firefighters need to re-evaluate caution though.

Hope you, your family stay safe and your home too!
When you live in that valley area, you expect fires to happen from time to time but it's different when it's a different level of reality when you're forced from your home.
I know a bunch of friends in the Thousand Oaks area that got evacuated last night due to the fire over there...very scary times...

The roof of one house in the neighborhood caught on fire. Watching this on SkyMap 7. This is scary because this house is farther away from the fire than my house. Thankfully, four fire engines showed up and put it out.

The nice old lady across the street reports smoke and burnt grass in the air. She's a tough one. I lamented to Julie how I wished I could have stayed home; but she reminded me of the condition of my lungs.
