There are numerous references to the 1101 that have yet to be cleaned up.

 

Ah ok but the filters are usually bypassed when source sample-rate is 352/384khz correct?

 

Very interested in hearing your further impressions with this DAC. I am currently looking for a DAC/headphone amplifier and I am pondering between this and a Chord Hugo 2.

 

Me too torq. soekris clearly has a genuine passion, and I am enjoying his posts. Does this DAC sound good?

 

That'll be part of it.

I can say I quite like the dac1541 and it seems quite creditable at it's advertised price. But that is just in listening to it in isolation, as a purely integrated unit, and I'm making no comparisons to anything else until I've actually DONE those comparisons. Saying more would be a disservice to all.

I can also say that I'm not going to get a chance to post anything substantive before buggering off sailing tomorrow and, unfortunately for those interested in this unit, I'm not going to be back from that and able to post anything before that discount has expired.

I heard a Gungnir Multibit for the first time at Schitr this past weekend and think it's wonderful. As someone who loves listening to Jazz recordings from the 50's/60's, the cross feed option on the Soekris could be very useful though.

@soekris: Since I'm seriously considering a 1541, I have a post-sales service question for you. Is the unit upgradeable? For example, sounds like you might change the 80dB bottom limit. In addition, as a feature request, I'd like to be able to keep the unit turned on 24x7 with the LED indicators turned off (nice for, e.g., watching movies in a dark room). Seems like adding an "LED off" feature can be handled in firmware (perhaps by adding a 4sec push to one of the buttons which doesn't already have a secondary function). Would such updates be something I can do myself, without sending the unit to you for service?

 

The dac1531 firmware can be updated over an internal serial port. I wasn't really planning for any updates or that the customers should do it themselves, although it's not that complicated, you just need a USB to TTL serial adapter and some terminal emulator software....

I heard the DIY version of the DAC before and these filters did improve it noticeably YMMV.

 

Did anyone in the US get a shipping notification on the 1541 yet? I placed my order on July 29th, and it still shows "pending" on the Soekris store page.

However, when I ordered the unit, it said "in stock". Now it seems this was not the case at all.
