To be more specific, there's a slight hardness to the Soekris dac1321 that eventually lessons after extended power on.

I've had to power down my 1541 on a few occasions, but tbh I haven't noticed much in the way of a difference. To be fair that's just casual listening though.

The dac1541 is barely lukewarm when powered on. Although there may be a benefit to leaving it on all the time, it makes more of a difference for R2R DACs that run at a higher temperature (such as Schiit).

Have you measured the dac1421 after initial power on and a week later to see what changed?

I did it with a dac1541 using professionally calibrated, traceably certified, test equipment.

    Cold the unit was 250 x 200 x 40mm.

After 72 hours continuously playing music, in a temperature controlled room*, it was 250.2 x 200.15 x 40.05mm.

Then I stuck it in the fridge, under an institutional size box of "cheese"** slices. After 72 hours in there, all the cheese was gone, and the unit measured 249.8 x 199.85 x 39.95mm.

Repeating the measurements three times, there are two major takeaways here:

    1. The dac1541 REALLY likes "cheese"***.
    2. The dac1541 REALLY likes "cheese"***.
I realize that, technically, that's just one takeaway ... but I felt it was such a big one that it was worth mentioning twice.

    --
*I left the air conditioning on and didn't let my fiancé fiddle with the thermostat.
**That's what it claims on the box.
***I certainly didn't eat all of that.

The dac1421 is in my round tuit queue for measurements sometime. I have a backlog of items, many of which take priority for corporate. You may find some time estimates for what it takes perform an audio component measurement suite here.

Ask Amir, he’ll measure it for you and tell you how much it sucks.

I'm severely disappointed. Without using a triple blind testing methodology, this is all just subjective.

You could also get some interference from the light bulb in the fridge, I'd try taking it out. Also, if it's dark in the fridge does that count as at least one of the "blinds" in double-blind testing if you can't see anything?

No. Only NIST certified blindfolds with an albedo rating of 0.005 or less qualify.

The manual says" " It supports input signals on the USB interface up to 24 bit / 384 Khz PCM audio, and up to DoP-128 (x2) and DSD-256 (x4) audio, or up to 24 bit / 192 Khz PCM audio on the various SPDIF interfaces." Are you using higher-rate DoP?

No, dop is only over USB, the spdif interfaces will only do PCM.

Is this the correct one 1021filt_120.txt?
I wasn't really sure if it was compatible with the 1541.
